Beverly's Spouted Raw Hummus:
HINT: when sprouting garbanzo beans they soak up a large amount of water in the first 2-6 hours so make sure you check them.
I use a Tribest Freshlife automatic sprouter. Here is the link: https://tribest.com/
You will also need a food processor-not a blender.
Garbanzo Beans - 2 Cups Hard Beans - Place in Sprouter for 3 days. Change the water every 12 hours. They may swell up to 3 times the original size. (watch closely for the first few hours)
Tahini, I pick a 12 oz jar up in the store
Sea Salt
Olive Oil
Fresh squeezed lemon juice
Water
Add your favorite fruit or veggie such as: peppers of all kinds, (habanero is very tasty-be cautious as they are really hot, the longer hummus sets the hotter it gets), fresh garlic, tomatoes (I scald them to loosen the skins for easy removal), sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke, spinach or any veggie you love. Fruit hummus is delicious as well, blueberries, strawberries, peaches or your favorite fruit.
How to create your Hummus. Start by placing 2 cups of sprouted beans in the food processor, add approximately 1/3 cup of olive oil and start the machine. When the beans begin breaking up they may bog down the processor, slowly add a bit of water and continue grinding the beans and they will come together. When using artichoke hearts add some of the juice to the blend before adding water. When the consistency is that of peanut butter. stop and open the lid, add a bit of salt (remember you can always add more for taste), start with 2 tablespoons of tahini and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice. Cover and mix, when blended open and taste, you may need to add a bit more tahini, salt or lemon. Keep in mind the veggie or fruit you are adding so now put in your garlic and veggie, start with small amounts and blend, taste and add accordingly. Then let the processor go till you reach a smooth blend. The Raw Hummus can be frozen and will keep up to 3-4 weeks in the refrigerator. TIP: your raw hummus is fermented which adds even greater nutritional value to this wonderful treat.

Episode 23 - Healing with plants - an interview with Anthony Masiello of Plant Based TeleHealth
Today, I am joined by Anthony Masiello, co-founder and CEO of Plant Based TeleHealth, a national lifestyle telemedicine service focused on the prevention and reversal of disease with lifestyle medicine and whole food plant-based nutrition.
Anthony has been working in healthcare for more than 25 years. His professional career started in the 90s at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) doing bioinformatics for the Human Genome Project. He later shifted into Research and Development at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, where he was interested in contributing more directly to the development of new disease therapies.
Finally, after learning there is a better way, he shifted his focus once again and is now 100% focused on providing access to medical services centered on the prevention and reversal of disease utilizing lifestyle medicine rooted in whole food plant-based nutrition. Anthony first came to a plant-based lifestyle himself after being denied a 20-year term life insurance policy at age 33. He was morbidly obese, weighing more than 360 pounds, medicated for high blood pressure, and suffering from psoriasis, eczema, migraine headaches, and sleep apnea. Through the transition to a whole food plant-based diet and healthy lifestyle, Anthony lost 160 lbs. and reversed all of these conditions. He has maintained that weight loss, optimal health, and a greatly improved quality of life for more than 15 years and counting.
Anthony’s personal health transformation has been featured on the Megyn Kelly Today show, on PBS, in The Huffington Post, in the bestselling book Eat to Live, and by Forks Over Knives, Runners World, and numerous magazines, web sites, radio shows, podcasts, and articles.

Episode 22 - "You don't look vegan" - An episode on fat-shaming
Today's episode veers a bit off-course as it is not solely focused on veganism, though, of course, I talk about veganism too. I feel it is important to address fat-shaming as a whole, not just within the vegan community.
If you are a fat-person who has been made to feel less-than, I hope you feel seen and loved while listening to this episode. If you are a "normal-sized" person who has made the fat person in your life feel less than, I hope you can take a new perspective and love them as they are right now.
Here's a great article from VegNews on anti-fat bias
