No Sanity Required

Have you ever doubted your salvation? Or, do you wrestle with finding assurance of things God has already promised in Scripture? The Bible teaches us that we can know we have salvation. Doubt seems to be the most common struggle of Christians in American churches (not just students). We doubt our salvation, we doubt God’s goodness, we doubt God’s previous works, and we doubt God’s ability to do something.Doubt is a direct attack on faith, so the way we must attack doubt is by growing our faith stronger. Growing deeper in our understanding of who God is will enable our faith to flourish and give ballast in the midst of doubt.Go deeper into God’s Word. That’s going to stabilize you. Whatever God gives you, make sure to be faithful with that—even if it seems little right now. The Lord will bless and give you more responsibility. King David was chosen by God and anointed as the new king while serving his father as a young shepherd. He showed periods of strong faithfulness and obedience, then fell hard in several key areas of life. David killed Goliath, but at the end of David’s life Israel still hadn’t driven out their enemies.No matter what you do, no matter where you’ve been, you cannot out-sin the grace of Jesus. Last Sunday night, Brody Holloway addressed the current Coronavirus pandemic and how believers should respond to it. While most of the world is in a panic we have an opportunity to be a light to nonbelievers. There are no days off in the Christian life. Every day, when our feet hit the floor, we are engaged in a spiritual war. We’ve got to fight with courage and perseverance. The instinct of our flesh is to drift away from holiness and toward the worship of ourselves and other idols.Jeroboam became king over the northern kingdom of Israel but didn’t have Jerusalem (and the Temple) within his reign. He created two golden calves that his kingdom of Northern Israel could worship. An entire new religious system was born.So, God sent a prophet from Judah up to Bethel to prophesy God’s judgment against the false priests (and Jeroboam).
