Take a Day Off, Get Mauled by a Lion pt. 2
There are no days off in the Christian life. Every day, when our feet hit the floor, we are engaged in a spiritual war. We’ve got to fight with courage and perseverance. The instinct of our flesh is to drift away from holiness and toward the worship of ourselves and other idols.Jeroboam became king over the northern kingdom of Israel but didn’t have Jerusalem (and the Temple) within his reign. He created two golden calves that his kingdom of Northern Israel could worship. An entire new religious system was born. So, God sent a prophet from Judah up to Bethel to prophesy God’s judgment against the false priests (and Jeroboam). The prophet proclaimed God’s words with courage and boldness in the face of King Jeroboam’s anger.Sadly, the man of God was then deceived by an old prophet while on the way home and didn’t obey the Lord’s command to return straight home. References1 Kings 12-13Quotes“Every day when our feet hit the floor we are at war spiritually and so every day we’ve got to fight.”“Your relationship with the Lord is so critical, how you view God is so critical you can’t take a break from that. It’s a relationship. God is not just an object of our worship, He is our Lord. He is the lover of our souls, He draws us into a relationship and I’ve got to stay tuned. I can’t afford to take any days off.”“Be careful, lest you drift away.”“No one ever drifts toward holiness, that is a constant fight you’ve got to be constantly aware. Take your focus and you stop fixing your eyes on Jesus and you can drift away.”P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Nothing Can Eclipse your Call to Christ
This was the greatest gift my dad ever gave me. He looked at me with tears and said, “Son, I had a successful ministry and success life. And I allowed myself to get wrapped up in that.” His failures and mistakes shape who I am today—as a father, as a husband, and as a leader. The first step of reconciliation was tough but God used it in rich ways for my growth and sanctification.Brody’s father fell back into sexual addition that he struggled with before he was a believer. His successes and failures affected everything and everyone around him, but God’s grace is bigger than the failures of our parents. Christians, we need to remember that we are children of God. You might be a school teacher, a pastor, a fighter pilot, or you might be a combat veteran who wrestles with finding their identity outside of the service. You might be retired and trying to find your identity. You may be a young woman or a young man who is starting your career right now is the time to establish that your identity is in Christ. Don’t pursue the approval of others—it will eclipse your main focus of knowing Christ and becoming more like Him. Then, you’ll be pursuing whatever you think you need to be or what others think you need to be. It’s a slippery slope.Who you are is determined by how you perceive Jesus and what you do with Him. As we pursue Christ and allow Him to conform us more into His image, that is going to form and shape our identity.ResourcesRomans 8:28-30Quotes“When Jesus saved us, redeems us, and begins to set us free from the controls and dominions of sin, one of the things He sets us free from is the weight of someone else’s failure that impacts us.”“If we can see how God can use that for His glory and our good- because people, persecution and hardship either crushes/destroys them or makes them stronger.”“I allowed my call to ministry to be eclipsed to the greater call God has on all of our lives that is the call to be conformed into the image of Jesus.”P.S. Take a Day Off, Get Mauled by a Lion pt. 1
You can experience the goodness of the Lord, obey the Lord for a time, exercise the wisdom that comes from God, and worship Him. But don’t let pride creep in. Don’t give in to distraction from the world. Don’t forget your desperate need for Jesus.Don’t take your eyes off Jesus, any of us can fall away.King Solomon asked God for wisdom. The Lord was pleased and granted him wisdom and riches. It seemed like Solomon was on the right path to follow the Lord as a godly king. But that’s not how the story ends.“Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places.” (1 Kings 3:3)He didn’t remain faithful to the Lord. He started by building the Temple for Israel to worship Yahweh. Solomon wrote a lot of songs, married a lot of women, and followed false gods. In the end, his heart had turned away from the Lord. Don’t quit worshipping Jesus. Fix your eyes on Jesus. Focus on God and His Word and love Him. And surround yourself with others who will speak truth into your life and help keep you on the path you need to be on.“So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and did not wholly follow the LORD, as David his father had done. Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem. And so he did for all his foreign wives, who made offerings and sacrificed to their gods. And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep what the LORD commanded.” (1 Kings 11:6-10)References- 1 Kings 3- 1 Kings 11Quotes“You can see the goodness of the Lord, experience the goodness of the Lord, walk in faithfulness and obedience to the Lord and exercise the wisdom that comes from God. You can worship Him, love Him — even write extensively songs of praise. Others might think, “man that person loves Jesus, that person really loves God”, and in the end how quickly and easily you can take your eyes off Jesus and fall away.”“I see this a lot, where people start strong, live strong for a season and they fall away…I pray that I stay strong till the end, I pray that for you too, let’s walk with the Lord by fixing our eyes on Jesus and His Word with all the days of our lives. Stay faithful, stay true, and He will keep you. He won’t let you fall away, and the reward will be great, it will be one of faithfulness and peace.”P.S. Why "No Sanity Required"?
If you live your life for Jesus, in total abandonment of everything else, then people are going to think you’re crazy. It doesn’t make sense from the world’s perspective. Let’s live, teach, and grow to believe so wholeheartedly in Jesus that we are willing to abandon all earthly wisdom. No Sanity Required has been the battle cry of Snowbird for years and for good reason.Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians that both Jews and Gentiles considered him foolish for believing the Gospel message. It’s insanity in the eyes of the world—and that’s a good thing. The Gentiles couldn’t understand why Jesus would let people kill Him, and the Jews weren’t connecting the dots in the Old Testament that pointed to Jesus’s role as the Messiah (God the Son). The Gospel pushed back the darkness of paganism and brought true understanding to the Jewish religious beliefs.Christian, you have been set free from sin, and now free to obey Christ! This is where true joy and fulfillment is found. What the Gospel demands, Jesus fulfills and provides for us. Hope, peace, freedom, and joy are found in Christ alone. There is No Sanity Required — Simply a need to pursue Jesus, love Him and give His message to the world. Let’s learn to understand more clearly who Jesus is, what He expects from us, and what He offers us.We don’t need sanity, we need Jesus.Read the mission and history of Snowbird.Quotes“We are proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ…focused on the right and proper handling of God’s Word to equip and disciple young people, men and women, families and to be a ministry that partners with local churches all across America and even the world. That’s who we are and what we do.”“If I’m a fool, I’m a fool for Christ’s sake.”“No Sanity Required is the idea that if you live your life for Jesus, in total abandonment of everything else, and with focused and a wholehearted pursuit of Jesus, then you will live in obedience to Him and you worship Him. If you follow Him and give your life wholly to Jesus, then people are going to think you’re crazy. They’re going to think that doesn’t make sense. In the world’s knowledge and ideology, it doesn’t make sense. It is insanity.”“In the world’s eyes, there is insanity to a true pursuit of Christ.”“Let’s live and teach and grow and disciple in a Christianity that the world looks at and goes, ‘this is crazy.’ These people, they’re willing to go to the ends of the earth, they’re willing to do whatever it takes to reach others for the Gospel. They believe so whole-heartedly in the Gospel of Jesus Christ that they will abandon all earthly wisdom.”“Christ sets us free from everything but the Gospel. What the Gospel demands Christ fulfills and then gives to us and now we’re free to just obey and follow Him and worship Him, that to the world is insanity, is foolishness to the world.”ResourcesThe Insanity of God - by Nik RipkenMission & History of SnowbirdP.S.
