Proofs of the Resurrection | From Doubting Brothers to Faithful Martyrs
Christians must be able to give a defense for their faith. The testimonies of His half-brothers, Jude and James, provide strong evidence to support the resurrection of Jesus. Brody walks through the eyewitness accounts from those who had front row seats to His life, death, resurrection, and ascension to the throne. The only appropriate relationship with Jesus is to worship Him as Lord and Savior. Jude humbly identified himself as a slave to Jesus (his own brother). Our natural tendency is to rebel against authority. Believers need to constantly be reminded that we are not in charge. Our submission to Christ should look a lot like Jude and James. These brothers were later martyred for the faith they boldly proclaimed. They abandoned their lives, left what they knew behind, and pursued Jesus in obedience to advance the Gospel. Keep your eyes on the resurrected Lord and submit to Christ daily.ReferencesJudeActs 1John 7:5P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Proofs of the Resurrection | Simple Apologetics & Personal Holiness
Everyone has an opinion on the supernatural. It’s curious why people push hard against the Resurrection. It’s important for us to be able to “give a defense” for the faith you have. This is critical in order to strengthen our faith and stand firm in the face of doubt! Being able to give this defense is also extremely helpful when you come into contact with a true seeker of truth. Remember when Jesus’ brothers and family were angry at Jesus for the messianic claims He was making? After the Resurrection, His family was huddled in the upper room praying to Him!Peter denied Christ three times on the night of the Crucifixion and was later martyred for proclaiming the Gospel message.Roman crucifixion was a cruel death.Buried behind a stone. They saw Him in the resurrected body. The Resurrection of Jesus is wonderful news! The same Spirit that raised Christ from the grave lives inside of every Christian.ReferencesJohn 14:6Acts 1:1-16P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! No Sanity Stories | Our Brother in Africa (pt. 4)
Less than two years ago, there was no Gospel movement among this Muslim people group in Sub-Sahara Africa. Now, there are well over 100 Christians gathering in fellowship, teaching, discipleship, and worship. This episode from Brody and a missionary partner summarizes Amir’s last couple of months. He’s been in hiding, praying about fleeing the country.Amir was desperately trying to discern:Should his path lead to martyrdom?Or, did the Lord want his path to continue making disciples and planting churches?Amir is from an exclusively Muslim tribe and his safety has constantly been in danger. However, his father has recently died from health complications and he’s been able to visit and encourage believers with a little more safety.Resources & referencesMatthew 28:18-20 (Great Commission)Amir, Part 1Amir, Part 2Amir, Part 3P.S. A Conversation on Pain, Suffering, & Trusting Jesus
What does hope look like in the middle of suffering? Suffering isn’t easy, but the Gospel gives us hope—that’s sometimes unexplainable. Brody had a conversation with Brooke Mitchell, SWO summer staffer, about how she’s faced losing her mom to cancer earlier this year.Brooke’s mom was diagnosed with cancer five years ago. Earlier in 2020, she found out her cancer had returned, and she passed two weeks later. Sometimes, our experience of suffering is a gift that we can provide to others. The Lord is holding us in His hands, every day. And, He uses the Body of Christ to encourage and carry us through the most painful times.“The Lord has a plan for this, even if I don’t see it now.”Resources & links:Servant TeamP.S. Jacob: Comfort, Selfishness, & Failed Leadership
As crazy as your family reunions are, your family isn’t quite as crazy as Jacob and his kids. His selfish deceitfulness not only impacted his family right away but also continued through several generations.God had promised that Abraham (Jacob’s father) would be the father of many nations and that his family would bless all nations through the birth of the Messiah into his family. But it didn’t take long for the early family to reject God’s faithfulness and instruction.Jacob left his daughter (Dinah) unsupervised in a pagan land. She was raped, and then the man demanded to marry her and join the nations. Jacob’s lack of fatherly leadership led to countless pains and difficulties for the family. Her brothers stepped up in anger toward Shechem and the Caananites. So, the brothers used the sacred covenant of circumcision as a tool to deceive and conquer the Caananites. Jesus & His Crazy Grandmas | Ruth
We serve a God that is greater than the worse of human tragedies, and He has a purpose for our redemption. Throughout the time of the Judges, “Israel did what was right in their own eyes.” But Yahweh was working His plan through it all.Naomi was left in Moab as a widow in the far-off land of Moab, with her two daughters-in-law (also widows). In this story, Ruth immediately rises up as a young girl who is devoted to Naomi in the face of all cultural norms and threats of poverty. It would have been easier for her to return home to her pagan family and start a new life, but God had other plans. Ruth refused to leave her mother-in-law and returned with her to Bethlehem. In one of the greatest love stories ever told, Boaz rescues Ruth from poverty and outcast by reaching across cultural lines and marrying her. Sickness, poverty, idolatry, prostitution, violence, and everything in this world is broken and brought by sin. However, our Lord reaches down and redeems the deepest of human failures for His own glory and our good.ResourcesRuthMatthew 1P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Jesus & His Crazy Grandmas | Tamar
There is no family more interesting that Jesus’ family. Rahab, Tamar, Ruth, and everyone in-between exemplifies the craziness of sin that Jesus was born into. And yet, He came anyway. He came into our world to redeem the depth of sinfulness we know as the human existence—to rescue a people for Himself by His very death and resurrection.6 Things About Jesus’ Family Line1. All men live and die.2. There is one lineage for all the people of history (Adam and Eve).3. Jesus became fully human.4. Jesus was the son of Adam and Son of God.5. The lineage recorded in Matthew goes through the royal line of kings to Abraham.6. The lineage of Jesus includes prostitutes, thieves, kings, preachers, businessmen, scholars, slave traders, warlords, and slaves. In Tamar’s story, we see the ugliest components of humanity. She was used, abused, and tossed aside repeatedly by Judah and his family. In spite of that, Jesus redeems the story of Judah and the sins of all men by coming into our world and conquering the darkness of sin by the light of His glory.Jesus is the Savior of the world, the Savior of sinners.ReferencesGenesis 38Matthew 1P.S. No Sanity Stories | Our Brother in Africa (pt. 3)
This is Part 3 of Amir’s story. Brody and Bobby cover his capture, physical persecution, rescue, and finish with a prayer request regarding his current situation. In the past twelve months, the Lord has greatly used Amir’s influence and raw obedience to spread the Gospel and grow the Church in their area of Africa. The church in this Africa city crossed people group lines within the first six months! With great persecution comes the quick spread of Gospel truth. And, more persecution usually follows. Amir has refused offers of wealth and safety by his family to return to Islam because the Holy Spirit has so utterly confirmed the truths of Christ in His heart. But, he’s had a rough eighteen months. His mother died of sickness last year, and his brother was later murdered after choosing to follow Jesus. In the midst of it all, the Church began to grow. Multiple groups of Christ-followers began to arise within the city. His purpose right now is to raise up new leaders and equip the church to continue in the faith, regardless of what the future holds. Pray for him to walk in the faith, boldness, and wisdom of the Holy Spirit in the next several months. Hold the line for him!“The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.” – Tertullian“But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.” (Hebrews 10:39)P.S.
