Two Missionary Stories | One of Faithfulness, One of Selfishness
Brody tells a crazy story of two missionary couples in this episode. There is a contrast between those who go and stay faithful and those who go and forget their calling. When it comes to ministry we cannot lose focus. We all have platforms in our communities where we have the opportunity to impact those around us with the Gospel. Let's stay focused and live lives that ignite Gospel work. Resources: From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya: A Biographical History of Christian Missions by Ruth A. Tucker P.S. 9 Observations on Jealousy
Here are 9 observations about jealousy. Brody points out ways to combat it and acknowledges when jealousy can actually be healthy. Don’t compare yourselves to others—that’s a sure way to weaken your daily faithfulness. Comparison reveals a dissatisfaction in where the Lord has you and what He’s done for you. Instead, we must learn how to be satisfied in Christ alone. Fight this by pressing into Christ and abiding in His Word daily. There is a type of jealousy that is good. One that calls for an exclusive relationship with the Lord. The Lord is a jealous God. He seeks our whole heart and calls us to put no idols before Him. He demands worship that brings us into His presence and makes us more like Him. This gives us purpose and value, and drive. Resources: Genesis 4Proverbs 6:8P.S. Nobody Likes Hypocrisy
In the Christian walk, it is easy to fall into hypocrisy and live an inauthentic life. Jesus even addresses hypocrisy by warning His disciples to guard against it. If they could become hypocrites then so can we. As believers, we need to fight this mindset. We’re not going to be perfect but we must strive to mimic the example Jesus set for us in how to live genuinely. Be real, love others well, and focus on pleasing the Lord through your obedience. Thoughts on Government | Who I'm Voting for & Why
In this episode, Brody addresses issues that Christians can’t ignore when choosing a candidate to vote for. He explains who he’s voting for, and why, by walking through core values that Christians stand by. With everything that’s going on in our country, it’s easy to get caught up in the drama of 2020 and shift our eyes off of Christ. Regardless of who gets voted into office, remember that Christ is still on His throne. He is still in control and holds the ultimate authority in our lives. Resources: Psalm 139P.S. How to Remain Faithful
There are many things battling for our attention in today’s world. It’s easy to get derailed by cultural influences and lose sight of Jesus. We all know people who used to follow passionately after Christ but are now caught up following the world. So, practically, how do we remain faithful to Jesus? We must be Gospel-driven from start to finish. If we’re not being driven by the Gospel, then we’re being driven by the world’s definition of Christianity. Fix your eyes on Jesus, stay on mission, and rest in God’s promises. We need to do this every day, not just for a season. Don’t become weak-minded Christians. Stay faithful. Resources:Lamentations 3:22-24 P.S. What Happens to Babies When They Die?
This is such a difficult question emotionally and theologically, so it’s important for believers to look to Scripture for our understanding on this topic. Will babies go to hell if they don’t have the ability to understand the gospel yet? Do only the children of believers go to Heaven? This is wrong theology because it doesn’t line up with the character and grace of God. So what can we say to the mother who is grieving the loss of her child? There is hope even in that overwhelming grief. This hope is rooted in Scripture; it isn’t authored by our emotions to make us feel better. We can have hope even in loss because God is a God of grace.View full show notes & resources here.Resources:2 SamuelJonahJohn 9Romans 1P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Suffering, Suicide, & Eternal Hope
In this episode, Brody walks through how believers should view suffering and suicide from a Biblical perspective. He shares two different stories of people he knew who committed suicide. This is a difficult conversation to have, but we cannot avoid the topic. People assume that because someone takes their life, it automatically condemns them to hell. This is wrong teaching. No one is in heaven because of anything they’ve done. It is only by the Lord’s grace and Jesus’ work on the cross that we receive His righteousness. While the penalty of sin is paid for and the power of sin is no longer something that we’re under as believers, the presence of sin will always be real. In this life, we are still contending and we can still have hope even on our darkest day because of Christ. Resources:Romans 8:18P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Proofs of the Resurrection | Defending Common Arguments
It is important that Christians know how to defend the faith, but defending the faith doesn’t need to be complicated. Scripture gives us an overwhelming amount of evidence that Jesus did in fact raise from the dead, and this is where we should place our confidence. In this episode, Brody walks through common arguments from unbelievers. We must know how to gently but boldly respond to these false claims about the resurrection.
