A Biblical Understanding of Woke Culture, White Privilege, & BLM
This episode wraps up our 3-part series on critical race theory (CRT) and intersectionality. Brody, Zach Carter, and Zach Mabry sat down and took time to discuss and define the topics of “woke” and “white privilege”. What is happening in the culture today is wrong. Believers, we need to remind ourselves that the Lord will bring justice to every wrong that has been done. God is the one who vindicates wrong and we can trust that. Our job is to tell people the Truth and work to ensure just laws come into place. Christians should be alleviating the material sufferings of those around us. Let’s weep with them, mourn with them, acknowledge that this is sin, and tell the truth about it. It is dangerous for the Christian to be pressing into this ideology of CRT and intersectionality. We already have a mission and a command to take part in the work of building the Kingdom. The things of this world are vapor. The world doesn’t need more people setting low bars. We need something that transcends this world. One day God will make everything right again. The culture is asking the questions, so we need to answer them. The world doesn't know why these things are happening but they can acknowledge that the current order is not right. The Gospel is the answer. If you believe in Heaven then you can wait for God’s good justice to come. It is not our job to pick up the sword and think that we can make it right on this earth. While you wait, meet the material needs that you can and be faithful to proclaim the hope that you have.Bible passagesEphesians 2:6Psalm 24View full show notes & resources here.Resources & further studyChrist and Culture Revisited by D. Is Intersectionality a Useful Tool for Christians?
In this second episode on CRT and intersectionality, Brody, Zach Carter, and Zach Mabry walk through the dangers of using intersectionality as an analytical tool. This theory allows for the most oppressed voice to be heard as a standard for everyone. This puts people playing the role of God and calling the shots. Believers, the Bible is sufficient. We don’t have to go outside of Scripture to find answers to the most important questions. The Word of God gives us what we need. We are called to live in submission to the authority of Scripture and listen to and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The problem we face is spiritual, and the Gospel of Jesus is our answer. God has created a standard for our source of knowledge and right understanding in the world. We know what we know based on God who revealed Himself to us through: (1) the incarnation of Christ and (2) the Bible, His written Word. We need to remember that the Gospel is the hope and the answer for our world. We need to better understand these issues so we can articulate them with believers and nonbelievers. Christians are called to inform and shed the light on sin. We can’t be afraid to do this. It’s our job to proclaim true redemption. What is Critical Race Theory & How Christians Should View It
Critical race theory (CRT) and intersectionality are complicated and can be intimidating to understand. More clarity is needed to understand the danger of CRT and the whole-scale acceptance of it, not just in the secular world but also in the church. For this episode, Brody sat down with Zach Carter and Zach Mabry to discuss these topics and bring awareness to the core issues. Christians must always evaluate these conversations through the lens of Scripture. Scripture has given us everything we need to interpret the world around us. We live in a world that is sinful and has been damaged by the fall. Because of our sinful nature, the world doesn’t view human beings the way the Bible views them. Believers, we can’t surrender the values of the Church and then pick up the world’s tools to do our work. This episode will be the first of a 3-part series to educate ourselves and other believers on the dangers of CRT and how we should confront it. The Role of The Holy Spirit in Our Lives
When we see a fellow believer fall into sin and shame, the body of Christ feels that too. We feel the gravity of their guilt, brokenness, and self-condemnation. We should long to see other believers have victory in their sin and come along-side them to push them back toward Christ. This is what the Holy Spirit does for us. He is able to identify and sympathize with our weaknesses. Jesus gave us His Spirit so that He’s always with us, ready to help us at any time. During this episode, Brody discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In Christ, we have an advocate who feels for us, hurts for us, and sympathizes with us. This is a powerful picture that shows us how we’re linked to God and have His dwelling in us, feeling the weight of our sin. His Spirit comes alongside us by picking us up to carry the weight of our sin. Believers, we should be encouraged and comforted by this truth. Remember that you have the Helper living inside of you, advocating for you as a comforter and a companion.ResourcesJohn 14-16Hebrews 4:15P.S. Get Up and Live Out Your Pro-Life Stance
All throughout Scripture, we see that the Lord loves the poor and destitute. We need to follow Jesus’ example and care for those around us. We need to do this not only with our words but also with our actions. People tend to voice their opinions about an issue like abortion but then they sit back and don’t do anything to help. In this podcast, Brody shares why he’s so passionate about fostering, adopting, and getting involved with those in your community. This isn’t easy work, but it’s worth it for what the Lord will do in your heart and mind as you serve those in need. Let’s be believers of action. Help a single mom or donate to a family who is trying to adopt. Do something other than rant on social media! While words can hold weight, they are still a vapor. They hold no gravity if they’re not followed by action. Start investing in those in your community who are hurting. Commit to being on a Gospel mission for the least of these in our society.ResourcesJames 1Living on Mission Where You Are (4-part blog series by Mitch Jolly)North Carolina Guardian ad Litem North Carolina Adoption & Foster CareP.S. What is Your Purpose in Life?
In today’s podcast, Brody shares two stories from the birth of Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters that involve the help and investment from his father-in-law, Steve Coleman. He walks through how the Lord used Kahuna’s background in inner-city ministry and land development to prepare him for what the Lord had in store for him. The Lord combined Kahuna’s skills and Brody’s experience in student ministry to form the vision for Snowbird. You never know what God is preparing you for. His plans are higher than our imagination and Snowbird is a testament to that. Both Brody and Kahuna were faithful and obedient to the Lord and His plans for them. He carried them through different events during their lives that prepared them to build this ministry as a team. God is preparing you for something and He has a purpose for everything. Remind yourself of this truth, even when everything around you seems uncertain.P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! They’re raising $200,000 to distribute Bibles to those who don’t have access to Scripture in Africa. Listen in to learn how Greg built this connection and the goal of this ministry. The aim is to get 20,000 Bibles onto their property and then distribute them to the unreached. The Profound Effects of Simple Obedience
This episode gives more background on the story of our brother in Africa. Brody sat down with Greg Helms to learn how teaching English to Muslim men in South Sudan led to Amir’s salvation. Simple obedience to share the Gospel can radically change the lives of those around us. Gospel leaders look for opportunities to boldly share the Good News. Be challenged and encouraged as you listen to how the Lord uses simple obedience to save the lost.Resources: letmeintroduceyou.orgP.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Of Masks & Men
Is it unloving to not wear a mask? Brody addresses a question he got from a church member on why we don’t wear masks at Red Oak Church. He reads from The Barrington Declaration and explains how it gives us a guideline when it comes to this issue. While we want to protect the elderly and the high risk, we also need to get back to work.Resources: The Great Barrington DeclarationRed Oak ChurchP.S. Power Couples in the Bible | Priscilla & Aquila
How can our marriages and homes serve as a base of operations for advancing the gospel? Believers, we should be striving to do ministry by engaging people in our homes and ministering to them. Today Brody looks at a power couple in the Bible who was willing to do whatever it took to advance the Gospel. Priscilla and Aquila played a key role in the early church and we can look to them as examples. Let’s be locally and globally-minded, and take action in the communities that we’re placed in.
