Progressive Christianity, Nationalism, & the Hope that Outlasts them Both

Christians are falling into the trap of finding their identity in politics. Our hope should not be in the government or society but in Christ alone. Our role of being a citizen in the United States should never feel bigger or more pressing than our role of being a follower of Christ. To start off season two of NSR, Brody discusses the culture today by looking at the life of Daniel who shows us how to live in a world that is so divided. Daniel is captured by the Babylonian Empire who hope to try to change his allegiance and teach him their ways. But Daniel resolved that he would not be reeducated or defiled but would remain faithful to Yahweh. Though we live in this world, we cannot embrace its ways. The world will try to redefine what is just, right, and good. There is no way for believers to live at peace with the world. Jesus brought division and came to preach repentance, not a gospel that leaves us comfortable. When we look at the craziness and instability of this world right now, we can know that Jesus is still on His throne. He is still in control and He will bring about justice for all people. God preserved Daniel and He will preserve us to advance the true cause of Christ to the very end. This world and all that it has to offer us is temporal. Don’t get caught up in the fray of it. The kings of this earth will rise and fall but only Jesus will last. Paul's Last Words

Scripture is breathed out by God. God’s Word is alive and active. Some of Paul’s last words in the Bible point to this truth and emphasize it’s sufficiency. In today’s podcast, Brody looks at 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and points out 6 characteristics of Scripture from this text. Listen in to learn why the Bible is such a critical part of our lives. The Word of God is always accurate and authoritative, and powerful to conquer strongholds in our lives. The Scripture teaches us how we’re to live our lives. As Christians, we have the Spirit of God living within us.  When we go to His Word, He will help us to understand it. God’s Word is meant to shape our lives and make us look more like Christ. His Word reproves and convicts us. We need the Word of God—our spiritual lives depend on it! Fight to spend time in the Word and pursue Christ daily.Resources:2 Timothy 3:16-17P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! "Let Them Have Dominion"

Looking back at the creation of man, we see God’s purposes and plan for each gender. These purposes help us function as image-bearers of God. In this episode, Brody specifically spoke to men about what the Lord has created them for. In the Garden of Eden, God blessed man by giving him responsibility. Then, man rejected that responsibility. God created us to work, lead well, and to have dominion. Brody walks through three areas of responsibility and his thoughts on dominion. Back in the Garden, the serpent tempted the desires of man's heart to establish his own authority. Now, men struggle to lead their families well and submit themselves to the Lord. Men—we need to humble ourselves before the Lord and allow Him to lead us. Let’s look to Jesus because he is the ultimate example of humility for us. Even Jesus didn’t count equality with God something to hold onto. The dominion we’re striving for is spiritual dominion. We’re no longer enslaved to sin but at war with it. Man could not maintain dominion, so God sent us a Savior who can. Jesus conquered through death what we couldn’t conquer through life. Fight sin today and do not lose heart. Be the men, husbands, dads, brothers, and friends God has called you to be. Resources:Genesis 1Genesis 2:15Hebrews 2:5-101 Corinthians 10:4-5Ecclesiastes 2:1-11Genesis 3:15Romans 8:11The Griz PodcastCovenant Eyes Creation and BlessingsP.S. Expositional Preaching in the Local Church

Expositional preaching is one of the pillars we stand on at Snowbird. There are many different styles of preaching, and everyone has their preference. No matter what style people use, there is a right and a wrong way to preach. In this episode, Brody discusses what expository preaching is and why it’s so important to the local church. We need to look at what Scripture says about preaching and be faithful to preach the Word rightly. God gave His Word to man as a revelation of Himself and His plans. The number one priority of the pastor is to be preaching the Word of God to the church. This is the most valuable way to grow and strengthen the church. Let the main point of the text be the main point of the sermon and keep the gospel at the center. Having faithful expository preaching creates expository listeners. Let’s be faithful listeners and teachers and handle His Word well.View full show notes & resources here.Resources:2 Timothy 3:16-172 Timothy 4:1-5Genesis 1:1Colossians 1:16Hebrews 1:3Brody's NotesP.S. 10 Distinctives of a Healthy Church

A question we get asked a lot is at what point should you leave your church. No church is perfect and we need to be believers who show grace towards that. But there is a point when major issues in leadership or doctrine should cause you to leave a church. If something in the body of Christ needs to be addressed, then we have a responsibility to address it. It’s vital to belong to a church that rightly handles the Word of God with fear and trembling. In this episode, Brody walks through 10 distinctives of a healthy church. He highlights standards that church members should hold when evaluating their church or looking for a church. No church will get all these distinctives perfect. We need to ask ourselves how we can be a positive voice in the church and not be focused on what we can complain about. Love the church and do your part to make it better. We hope you can use this as a helpful guideline to consider the health of your church.Resources:The 9 Marks P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Beyond the Flannelgraph | The Life of Daniel

Today Brody jumped back into our Beyond the Flannelgraph series and walked through the life of Daniel. We’re called to be a light in the darkness of this world, and Daniel is someone we can look to as an example. When you face trials in your life, remember that the Lord will use those trials to bring you closer to Him. Every generation of believers has gone through difficulties. Long before the time of Jesus, people joyfully endured persecution based on the fact that Jesus was coming. We have been given a better hope. We have an empty tomb and a better salvation. Have confidence that God will give us the faith to stand firm just as He did for those before us. Hold fast to the promises of God and endure the hard times.ResourcesDaniel 1Hebrews 11Romans 8:17P.S. Why I'm Thankful for 2020

Happy Thanksgiving! 2020 has been a little crazy. So, Brody used this episode to outline things that he is personally thankful for right now. We can be thankful that God is not only the author of this life but the next. So let’s give thanks. There’s a lot we can be thankful for right now even in this crazy time. Many of us have so much to worry about, but let’s set this aside today and enjoy the goodness of the Lord. Wrapping up CRT with the Holloway Adoption Story

These past few episodes have been a little heavy, so we wanted to wrap things up a little with some personal stories. We want to be a church, a people, a ministry, that encourages and loves people well. Our hope that people understand that at the end of the day we just want people to understand the love of God and be changed by the power of the Gospel. When God rescues us, He lifts us out of the darkness and brings us into the Kingdom with His Son. He gives us a new name and a new heart. We are made sons and daughters in the Kingdom. So now, let’s get busy loving our community with the same eternal hope. The opportunities are there you just have to look. Get involved as a church. Countless needs surround us concerning fostering and adoption. Invest in young teens. Be the hands and feet of Jesus right now, in your community. If you missed any of the previous three episodes on Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Intersectionality, you can find them here:What Is Critical Race Theory & How Should Christians View It?Is Intersectionality A Useful Tool For Christians?A Biblical Understanding of Woke, White Privilege, & BLMFor more ideas on how to serve those in the adoption and foster care system, list to Brody's previous podcast episode: Get Up And Life Out Your Pro-Life StanceView full show notes & resources here.ResourcesLiving on Mission Where You Are (4 part blog series)P.S.
