The Strong Coach — Coaching Culture w/ Adee Cazayoux — 3
Adee Zukier Cazayoux is founder and CEO of Working Against Gravity, who is also known as the "Barbell Gypsy". You can find Adee weightlifting, bobsledding, powerlifting, or competing in the NPGL or the CrossFit open. In 2016, she took a Bronze Medal at the Canadian National Weightlifting Championships. Adee has a BAH Psychology, and Masters in Teaching. She is also a Precision Nutrition Level 1 coach, and is currently completing her Masters in Nutrition and Human Performance. As an athlete Adee has studied/trained under many renowned coaches, most notably Aimee Everett, national champion, Travis Mash, world champion powerlifter, and Steve Sandor, Hungarian national champion. Adee is married to Michael Cazayoux, co-founder of Brute Strength, and host of Brute Strength Podcast. It was at Adee and Michael’s house that I began developing The Strong Coach program. Talking to both her and Michael helped get clarity on what is needed in the industry and how we can best serve that role. There is no one way to be a coach, and Adee was my first client that I was not coaching as an athlete. She has exemplified organization and systems as a means of impacting people though her coaching. It's a real joy to have someone who used to be my student, now teach me many things. In this episode, Adee talks about how she created her business, Working Against Gravity, which now has 28 coaches on team! Over the last 7 years Ketan has started, scaled a sold multiple businesses. He has also served as a Special Advisor to the former UK Prime Minster (David Cameron) on Youth & Business Policy; other work includes being part of the European Parliament & Commission working on the 2020 strategy for enterprise and employment. When we asked Ketan where the momentum to continually pivot, reinvent, and repurpose comes from, his answer was simple, yet profound, "I was just ignorant enough to leap and my curiosity was bigger than my knowledge." Through his years of consulting on both large and small scales, he has come to find commonality amongst those that fail to launch or plateau in success. Chief among these is the fear of success rather than failure. Ketan has become aware that what terrifies people the idea of actually accomplishing immense achievement. In this episode, we dive into the three things that everyone must figure out, regardless of their station in life are: Who you are, what you're good at, and what you're in the business of. Ketan is a massive believer of staying in your lane - playing in your creative genius, and keeping things simple. Your lane is the activities in which you're able to deliver a result with minimal effort. Often times people fall in love with the proverbial "Hero's Journey", completely missing the lessons told in the tale, only to repeat the same mistakes of their heroes. At the end of the day, 1% change in perception can manifest in 100% change in results. Real Chalk — The Awakening w/ Marcus Filly — 30
Marcus Filly is owner and head coach at Revival Strength. He started his athletic journey as a child, playing multiple sports including soccer, baseball and golf, which eventually led to a collegiate career in soccer at the University of California, Berkeley. There he earned his degree in Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis in Nutrition and Physiology. His interest in both athletics and human health and performance eventually led him to CrossFit in 2007. Marcus has gone on to compete at the CrossFit Games 6 times, three times as an individual (2016 12th fittest) and three times as a team member (2012 6th fittest team). Marcus was also the captain and member of the Phoenix Rise in the NPGL. For two years he has been voted to the all GRID league team, in 2016 earning 1st team honors, and in 2015 earning the award for leadership excellence. Marcus has been a health and fitness coach for 8 years since leaving Medical School in 2009. He was formerly a CrossFit facility owner for 5 years, has completed all 5 of the OPEX CCP courses, and has coached clients remotely from all over the world. He has coached athletes at the CrossFit Games as well as several Regionals athletes. In this episode, Marcus takes us through his journey in fitness and how an injury changed his perspective. He also talks about his experience with James Fitzgerald, what's OPEX and how it has influenced him, how Functional Bodybuilding and ATS started and where it is going, how he uses breathing and cadences to stay aware during workouts, how he was able to branch out from being just an athlete to now being a business owner, gym owner, dad, and much more. Tony Grebmeier (@tonygrebmeier) is a partner and co-founder of ShipOffers and host of the Be Fulfilled podcast. Originally from Santa Cruz, California, Tony had begun a journey training for the Olympics in water polo before a knee surgery derailed his plan. During his rehabilitation, Tony would find himself addicted to pain medication and alcohol which would lead him down a dark path. Despite his eventual commercial success, he describes it as a process to hide his pain and addiction from the world. One fateful day, alone, and contemplating taking his own life, he received a phone call from a friend who would interrupt him and inadvertently change the course of his life. Over the past 17 years, Tony and two childhood best friends have built an extremely profitable business, and Tony has used the resultant resources to spread a message of prosperity and fulfillment.
