This Is Hardcore Podcast is inspired by the people and culture that make things possible. Interviews, stories and plenty of insight and inspiration in the do-ers, the makers and the people pushing the culture over the last 4 decades. There is an unbelievable amount of great DIY information being discussed and will be disseminated through these conversations, in hopes of instilling a hard work ethic in the new generations and a rekindling a connection to the old ways for the old school listeners.

Episode 130 Nancy Barile
RIP Flippy
Nancy Barile is an Philadelphia Hardcore Original. She wrote a book "I'm Not Holding Your Coat" on her path to punk rock and beyond featuring some of the iconic early moments of Philadelphia's burgeoning Hardcore scene. Our conversation goes alongside and beyond the book to Philly- centric and cultural happenings of the times. Her story is a great first hand account of the early days of what we would eventually inherit as our own scene. So many great stories that I'll leave her to tell it in the book and on here.

Episode 128 Anthony "CIV" Civorelli
Episode 128 Anthony "CIV" Civorelli
We take a dive into the life of Civ and his way to finding hardcore punk.
A lot of laughs and great detail in the very early days before he even picked up the microphone with Gorilla Biscuits. Along the way we get into the new book that he has written, "A Roadie's Tale" which is based on his tour journal from the iconic Youth of Today tour through the US in 1988 supporting the seminal Break Down The Walls LP, both tour and and record would have a major cataclysmic impact on the US Hardcore scene and beyond.
We had a short time to go over all of this and we are planning on having him back to go further along into the GB story and much more.

Episode 126 DWID Hellion.
With This Is Hardcore 2023 just 2 weeks away, it was time to sit down with a legendary figure in Hardcore and a pioneer in pushing the boundaries of the genre in many ways. We talk of his childhood and its influences which would later come out in much of his music and art. Dwid had a very heavy influence in taking hardcore punk beyond the cookie cutter images and lyrical tropes with Integrity, the seminal Cleveland Based hardcore/metalcore band that has been a favorite in the underground for decades.
Check out Integrity at TIHC 2023 Friday August 4th at Underground Arts in Philadelphia, PA.

Episode 125 Some thoughts that come from greater minds than mine.
Episode 125 Some thoughts that come from greater minds than mine.
With the summer comes everyone too busy to come on a podcast so I had been pulling together some ideas when Norman Brannon's relaunch of Anti-Matter as a substack spurned some real energy into my brain for the first time in awhile in a way that only someone like Norm and his words could inspire.
For those of you who don't know what a substack is, its a way writers can offer their time and craft and be supported by those who wish to support them.

Follow and support the relaunch of one of the most pivotal zines of the 90's hardcore zines
For most of episode I try to pull together some ideas from my library to engage you all to think further on the subject of hardcore and selling out etc, but I don't feel like I put it together tight enough. In time I'll get better at it, but it was fun to chat with you all for a bit.

Episode 123 AJ of Preserving Hardcore and FaceWreck
Episode 123 AJ of Preserving Hardcore and FaceWreck
AJ has been a pivotal part of the Pittsburgh Area Hardcore scene for a long time before he was ever given credit for it. Continuing from the Ty Dawson episode last week, we learn even more about the western PAHC scene.
Through the trials and tribulations, AJ has come to be at the center of all the best hardcore punk activity in his home area. Taking his distro to a brick and mortar record store, then renovating a church just outside Pittsburgh, PA to be a Record Store and Venue that has 2 separate rooms under the name Preserving Hardcore, he has come to be the King who built his own castle.
His story is awesome and the fact that he still has time to perform with Facewreck just continues to show his dedication to the scene.

From the early days of finding hardcore punk to eventually mentoring and helping Code Orange when they were kids find their place in the scene. With his band Pain Clinic he finally gets a chance to get on the stage and show the world his talents.

Episode 121 Rob "Beto" Rosario of Dmize, 25 Ta Life, Madball and more
Episode 121 Rob "Beto" Rosario of Dmize, 25 Ta Life, Madball and more
Beto's story is one for the history books in many ways. We walk with him as he puts the pieces together of how the small area of Queens would eventually produce so many important NYHC bands in just a small friend group, Dmize, Madball, Merauder just to name a few. He would over time end up playing in all 3 as well as playing/touring with 25 Ta Life when the band was at their peak.
His story goes beyond his bands, to his family and the next generation of hardcore with his son Caiden Rosario of Reaching Out.
Being friends with Beto and talking at shows for hours, I was hoping to finally get some of our conversations onto the podcast and I feel like this goes deep into his life from the very beginning, through his time spent building a name in the business world as well as raising a family with his wife Casey.
