Interview with Kojaque

We had the pleasure of interviewing Kojaque over Zoom video! Kojaque has released his much-anticipated debut album Town's Dead, which is available now on Soft Boy Records / Different Recordings. Already receiving widespread acclaim, and with further support across Radio 1, 1xtra, 6Music, COLORs, and more, Town's Dead is Kojaque's follow-up to debut mixtape Deli Daydreams: a concept piece which became the first release of its kind to be nominated for the prestigious Choice Music Prize and took Kojaque everywhere from tours with slowthai and Lana Del Rey to a Boiler Room documentary on the influence of his label and collective Soft Boy. One of the year's most distinct debuts, Town's Dead is an expansive and urgent tour-de-force that speeds headlong into sex, violence, and the claustrophobia of your hometown. Within, Kojaque documents a tumultuous love triangle as it unfolds across New Year's Eve, with results that are as cinematic as they are political and deeply personal. Dark corners of parks, bedrooms, clubs, streets, and psyches are excavated, and pouring over the rubble is an artist unafraid of the vulnerabilities that are exposed when the voice rings true because there's just no point in being anything else. Through breakups and breakdowns, Town's Dead teeters on the brink, spilling from the mind of a singular talent onto streets scaffolded by a broken system but still suffused with love. Town's Dead sees Kojaque build a distinct world and invite the listener inside it - and it's one in which music, film, humor, and at times visceral storytelling all go hand in hand. Few contemporary rappers, after all, can claim to be an award-winning film-maker (for his 'Love In Technicolor' film), have been invited to talk at Trinity College's Philosophical Society, or develop work in residence for the RHA gallery. Kojaque is part of a new wave of Irish artists making the world sit-up with blistering and sophisticated art - ideas and work that emerged from a social revolution, stonewalled by late-stage capitalism. Welcome to Town's Dead, where it is - despite everything - New Year's Eve, the countdown to midnight is on, and Betty's fella's got a gun… We want to hear from you! Interview with Breaking In A Sequence

We had the pleasure of interviewing Breaking In A Sequence over Zoom video! Breaking In A Sequence, the hard rock band featuring former Korn drummer David Silveria, has released an explosive new video for their cover of Faith No More's "Midlife Crisis." Featured on the band's debut EP 'Acronym,' the song and accompanying video pay tribute to the seminal '90s alt rockers, who vocalist Rich Nguyen says "had a major impact on all of us – David and me, specifically." To properly pay homage to the original video, the Southern California-based rockers teamed up with director/producer Matt Zane to re-create the iconic Faith No More classic. Identical live performance shots, color composition and color shift effects, and editing techniques and cuts were used to convey the frenetic, albeit nostalgic, feel of the original - with Breaking In A Sequence's signature style woven throughout. View video here: "Midlife Crisis" Breaking In A Sequence "When we originally decided to cover 'Midlife Crisis' it was supposed to be an Easter egg on our EP, not a single release. But things changed when COVID-19 hit and the world transformed into a 'Black Mirror' episode," says Nguyen. "In the fall of 2020, we sat down to discuss the release with our managers and they encouraged us to release our rendition of the song, as it's familiar, yet different enough to not get lost in the madness of the year. That gave me the idea to do an homage to the original video. Bands do cover songs all the time, but they often don't cover the video, too." "Midlife Crisis" appears on the band's debut EP Acronym, which hit digital service providers January 23, 2021. Also included on the six-track EP is their debut single "Pity," which reached No. 23 on the Billboard Indicator chart and No. 9 on the Foundations chart upon its initial release. Breaking In A Sequence is rounded out by guitarists Mike Martin and Joe Taback and bassist Chris Dorame. "Midlife Crisis" is available on all DSPs, including Spotify and iTunes. Interview with Gone Gone Beyond

We had the pleasure of interviewing Gone Gone Beyond over Zoom video! There is an indescribable dynamic that occurs when the four members of Gone Gone Beyond are creating together. Each player of this musical hybrid family – comprised of multi-instrumentalists/singer-songwriters David Block (Los Angeles/NYC), Danny Musengo (Iowa/NYC), Kat Factor (Santa Cruz) and Mel Semé (Cuba/Barcelona) – brings a unique and diverse perspective on sound, culture, and life to the project. The synergy is magical. On their sophomore full-length album, 2030, Gone Gone Beyond delivers an urgent message of hope and change for our planet set against their inimitable brand of music, described as "mesmerizing future folk" by Consequence of Sound, that pays homage to the traditions of folk-americana songwriting while bringing together a myriad of influences from electronica, jazz, soul, and world music. Gone Gone Beyond first debuted in 2016 and was essentially birthed from David's electronic project The Human Experience, where the producer collaborated with dozens of solo artists worldwide over the course of many years. David had released music with Danny, Kat and Mel separately in different parts of the world amidst his travelling until ultimately deciding to put the band together. Since the release of their debut EP, 49 Bogart, and their first full-length Things Are Changing in 2019, Gone Gone Beyond has performed at a range of high-profile events including Coachella, Lightning In A Bottle, SXSW, Red Rocks, and the UN General Assembly, while accumulating millions of streams with their unique sonic landscape. For 2030, Gone Gone Beyond has created a meaningful, inspirational, and long-lasting collection of art, a true representation of their collaborative spirit and outlook on our ever-changing world. Based on a lyric from the optimistic earth love song "Marigold" ("I hope I see you in the year 2030"), the album is centered around transforming our environment and planting the seeds to cultivate a brighter future. As the band has learned, 2030 seems to be a critical milestone for proposed climate initiatives, making this decade a crucial last chance to adopt the changes necessary to sustain our planet for generations to come. We had the pleasure of interviewing Loose Ends over Zoom video! Long Beach pop-punk outfit Loose Ends have announced the release of their dynamic new video for 'Love In Heartache' off of their 2021 release 'Tell God You Were Framed' slated for a release later this year. Finding a silver lining in an ever-evolving world of turmoil and upset is something humankind has seemed to forget how to do. Loose Ends is here to tighten that thought up. "Love In Heartache explores the intoxicating struggle to get away from something we know is bad for us, but somehow finds its way back into our life; That we toggle between healing and hurting in order to grow with the hope that whatever it is doesn't kill us first." - Andy Rodesney About Loose Ends: Based in Long Beach California, Loose Ends is the most recent project of Andy Rodesney, Kyle Durst, Ben Wesson, and Matt Lang. Interview with Maggie Andrew

We had the pleasure of interviewing Maggie Andrew over Zoom video! LA-based pop artist, songwriter and creator, Maggie Andrew, has released part 2 of her 3-part trilogy, "ILMIHM," out now. This trilogy is an in-depth musical, visual and emotional experience, inspired by her own life, that will introduce fans to a world they can immerse themselves in. Directed by Grammy nominated director, Andy Hines [Kanye West, Lizzo, Logic, Luke Combs], "ILMIHM" comes fresh off the release of "Honda Civic" part 1 of the MAGGIE ANDREW TRILOGY. Throughout this trilogy, we will see a female reclaim her trauma and use her darkest moments as inspiration for others to overcome their own obstacles. The visual for "ILMIHM" [I Love Me I Hate Me] starts off with Maggie working at a Pizza Shop, which is meant to mimic her life back in Nova Scotia. In this life she's miserable, depressed and working a job she hates; all while being physically and emotionally abused behind closed doors by her boyfriend at the time. As Maggie acts out, throwing pizza boxes across the counter, she quits her job and the scenes start to flip back and forth between real life and the life that she's moving into/manifesting for herself. On the flip side of this "double life," you see Maggie being pampered in what looks like a luxurious life, all while she's singing lyrics that represent the complete opposite; "There's a voice inside my head telling me I'm fine, while the other one is yelling all the time. Am I just going insane from every lie I can't escape? I'm not okay. I love me and I hate myself" As we move from one video to the next within this trilogy, we get sucked into Maggie's past life and how she was able to escape it. We want to hear from you! Interview with Light The Torch

We had the pleasure of interviewing Howard Jones of Light The Torch over Zoom video! Time fortifies the bonds between us. Since emerging in 2018, Light The Torch have grown stronger in lockstep together as a band and as friends. Through this growth, the Los Angeles, CA trio—Howard Jones [vocals], Francesco Artusato [guitar], and Ryan Wombacher [bass]—only enhanced every aspect of their signature sound. Upheld by head-spinning seven-string virtuosity, yet also anchored to skyscraping melodies, the group crafted twelve no-nonsense and no-holds-barred metallic anthems on their 2021 second full-length album, You Will Be The Death of Me [Nuclear Blast]. The group shot out of the gate as a contender on their full-length debut, Revival. It bowed at #4 on the Billboard US Independent Albums Chart and at #10 on the Hard Rock Albums Chart in addition to receiving acclaim from Revolver, Outburn, and many more. "Calm Before the Storm" racked up a staggering 14.5 million Spotify streams, while "The Safety of Disbelief" remains one of SiriusXM Octane's all-time most requested songs. They also crisscrossed North America and Europe on tour with the likes of Trivium, Avatar, In Flames, Ice Nine Kills, Killswitch Engage and August Burns Red to name a few. In late 2019, an idea for the title track "Death of Me" kickstarted the creative process. The guys returned to Sparrow Sound in Glendale, CA to once again work with the production team of Josh Gilbert and Joseph McQueen [Bullet for My Valentine, As I Lay Dying, Suicide Silence] Light The Torch burns brighter than ever in the music as they deliver a definitive statement with You Will Be The Death Of Me. Interview with Jake Scott

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jake Scott over Zoom video! Jake Scott releases his eight-track project titled Goldenboy, a record that taps a top-shelf collection of pop's hottest collaborators, including Noah Conrad (Ashe, Niall Horan, LANY), Rob Moose (Bon Iver, Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers), Josh Kerr (Kelsea Ballerini, Camilo Cabello, Little Big Town), Martin Johnson (Boys Like Girls, Jason Derulo), Brandon Paddock (Avril Lavigne, Christina Perri), John Greenham (Billie Eilish, Finneas, Cautious Clay) and Chad Copelin (Train, Third Eye Blind). Raised in a rural Southern household, Scott breaks the stereotypical mold by vulnerably shedding the traditional tropes of masculinity. While Scott recorded most of the project from a family barn in Arkansas, the sonics are anything but homegrown. He has a smooth sound similar to JP Saxe's catchy, relatable intimacy, and he flawlessly blends it with soulful pop melodies reminiscent of Ed Sheeran. Accompanying the EP is a colorful visualization of Scott grappling with breaking out of society's mold. Watch the "Goldenboy" video above and here. To celebrate Goldenboy, Scott recently launched his own virtual donut shop, Goldenboy Donuts. Available exclusively through Grubhub, Goldenboy Donuts is partnering with local brick-and-mortar donut shops in 11 cities for a six-month partnership. Each donut is handpicked by Scott and named after songs off the EP. Flavors include "Off" The Beaten Path (Apple Fritter), The Shadow (Chocolate Long John), and The Goldenboy (Regular Glazed), and more. Read more about the delicious partnership via Forbes, and order your own Goldenboy Donuts here. The LA-based passionate-pop-heartthrob has made waves as an independent artist with more than 280 million cumulative streams. Scott's first three songs off Goldenboy --"Off," "Meet My Shadow," and "Anymore" -- have already amassed more than 4 million streams and landed on Spotify's New Music Friday, Chill Pop, Fresh & Chill, and Pop Right Now, plus Apple Music's New In Pop and Relationship Goals, just to name a few. Scott has risen to become one of streaming's breakout stars with his unconventional release strategy of writing, producing, and releasing one new song a month, which he did from 2018-2020, earning him 150M+ Spotify streams in 2020 alone. Known for writing "the lyrical language of love and life" (Music Connection), Scott not only pens all his own music -- like hits "Like No One Does" (34M + Spotify streams), "Tuesdays" (28M+ Spotify streams), and "Favorite T-Shirt" (28M+ Spotify streams) -- additionally, he's been a collaborator for some of today's biggest names, including Aloe Blacc, Carrie Underwood, Jason Mraz and Christina Perri. Interview with Polo & Pan

We had the pleasure of interviewing Paul Armand-Delille (Polo) of Polo & Pan over Zoom video! Parisian duo Polo & Pan have released their second full length album Cyclorama, featuring 14 tracks fitting for summer. The timeless band fine tunes their sound on Cyclorama, vibrantly exploring themes like transcendence, life, and death with a matured combination of dance, techno, disco, and psychedelia. The album's lead single that arrived earlier this year, "Ani Kuni," is growing rapidly, crossing top 40 at French airplay and already at over 5 million streams in less than two months. The album also features three songs from the band's 2020 EP Feel Good, as well as the three recent tracks they have released in 2021: "Ani Kuni," "Tunnel feat. Channel Tres," and "Les jolies choses." Polo & Pan have been praised by the likes of E! News, Consequence of Sound, Dancing Astronaut, and more. With tickets to their US tour going on sale just two weeks ago, they quickly sold out shows in both New York City and Los Angeles. Listen to Cyclorama HERE. "After a four year long cruise around the world onboard the 'Caravelle,' the time was ripe for us to come back to the studio. We spent many a sleepless night gazing at our instruments and thinking about what our second album should sound like. We are finally ready to unveil 'CYCLORAMA," said Polo & Pan. "This new musical voyage will take you on a journey through life, from birth to death and on to transcendence. We invite all of you to find your own itinerary through this shared musical odyssey. Set your compass as you wish and get ready to go full circle with 'CYCLORAMA!'" Cyclorama is Polo & Pan fully realized: hedonism matured, sounds fine-tuned, scope widened. Highlights like "Feel Good" and the ELO-inspired "Magic" bring vibrant, summery joy into an emerging world, while Polo & Pan also take moments to explore different introspective and darker, deeper tones. "Requiem," "Jiminy," and "Tunnel" — the latter of which is a collaboration with Compton rapper Channel Tres — take the band's slick tempos into a new realm of urban allure and mystique, while paying homage to their classic French sound. The duo, who have amassed nearly half a billion global streams, have released just one album prior: 2017's Caravelle, which was called a "voyage across blissful destinations… that invites surprise and enchantment" by the New Yorker. It led to Paul Armand-Delille (Polo) and Alexandre Grynszpan (Pan) being able to perform their music around the world to sold-out crowds at notable venues like LA's Novo, London's Printworks, NY's Terminal 5, and Montreal's MTELUS. They've also played numerous festival stages such as 2019's Coachella where Billboard called their performance "without a doubt one of the best performances." We want to hear from you! Interview with Del Water Gap

We had the pleasure of interviewing Del Water Gap over Zoom video! Del Water Gap aka S. Holden Jaffe released a new single "Sorry I Am" via Mom + Pop Music, his debut release on the label. Interview with Weathers

We had the pleasure of interviewing Weathers over Zoom video! Vocalist Cameron Boyer, guitarist Cameron Olsen, bassist Brennen Bates, and drummer Cole Carson create finely crafted, introspective pop songs heavily inspired by the alternative culture of the 80s, 90s and 00s. The band came together in 2015, largely through social media. Boyer and Bates met through a Facebook message responding to a post searching for a bassist. Carson auditioned through videos on YouTube, after an intro from Boyer's father, who had played in a band with his dad when they were in High School. Olsen came aboard through a local battle of the bands. RCA records debuted the first Weathers music in 2016, including the song "Happy Pills", which was the most added song on alternative radio on its impact date, receiving the most adds for a new artist in the 2010s and peaking at No. 21 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. To date "Happy Pills" has been streamed more than sixty million times. Following the success of "Happy Pills", the band released the 2018 album Kids in the Night, for which they co-wrote and worked with a who's who of the newest generation of prominent producers and songwriters including Tim Pagnotta (Walk The Moon, Neon Trees), Kyle Moorman (P!nk, Andy Grammar, Elle King) and Drew Pearson (Switchfoot, Ke$ha), to name a few. In 2019 the band released a string of singles written and co-produced with many of the same collaborators. These songs brim with bright melodies, insistent hooks, and potent rhythmic energy. The material felt custom-made to be sung at the top of your lungs while barreling down the highway. The boys are gearing up to release their long awaited sophomore album 'Pillows & Therapy' this August and recently released the third single from the project. The new song, "Rehab", is an alt-rock war cry depicting the inner battle of trying to break free from a toxic relationship In support of their recent releases, Weathers have been on the road supporting bands such as Cage the Elephant, Jimmy Eat World, Dreamers, Palaye Royale, Badflower, Echosmith and Catfish & The Bottlemen, and playing festivals like Lollapalooza and Firefly. They are currently working on finishing an album due out sometime in 2021 and preparing for their first national headline tour. We want to hear from you!
