Interview with Matt LeGrand
We had the pleasure of interviewing Matt LeGrand over Zoom video! Matt Legrand recently released his new music video to his single "Message in a Bottle"! The music video features Matt's alter ego – 'Mathieu', and aims to show his fans a different side of Matt LeGrand. The song comes from Matt's self-titled EP which was released in November 2020. Matt LeGrand spent his infant years in France and at the age of seven years old, his family relocated to Chicago. As he grew older he found himself exploring the wide variety of musical inspirations that the windy city had to offer. The exploration didn't stop there, he found himself actively learning a wide variety of instruments, from the guitar to the drums, even dabbling with songwriting; it didn't take much for him to completely fall in love with music. Eventually, Matt found his own sound, a powerful, energetic mix of soulful grooves and hard-hitting pop hooks which caught the attention of the music industry, and later landed him a nomination for MTVU's The Freshman Video contest. In 2017, Matt released his summer hit single "All Good" which debuted with highly acclaimed reviews from the Huffington Post saying, "Matt LeGrand demonstrates he has the vocal chops, personal charisma and musical awareness to produce a superb pop song." Since then, Matt released his singles "12:00am" and "I've Been Watching You (feat. Mestiza)" which landed him a feature Billboard Magazine's "Emerging Artist" Category in December 2019. Matt's single "I've Been Watching You" featuring Venezuelan hip hop artist, Mestiza, has over 1.3 Million Streams. The pair performed the song live for iHeart Radio and the song has been featured on many Spotify playlists including, the "Netflix and Chill" Playlist and "Sex Songs" Playlist. Interview with American Authors
We had the pleasure of interviewing American Authors over Zoom video! For the release of "Nice and Easy", American Authors joined forces with Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray to create the perfect summer BBQ soundtrack song. The laidback anthem takes a break from the last year's chaos and reminds listeners to cut themselves some slack. The new song is also a toast to new beginnings for the band, releasing the single independently and having begun producing their music on their own from top-to-bottom. After amassing 1 billion-plus streams, picking up multi-platinum and gold plaques, and selling out shows everywhere, the guys grabbed the reins and assumed dominion over their future in 2021. Composed of Zac, Dave Rublin [bass, keys], and Matt Sanchez [drums], American Authors are fully embracing their newfound independence and heading back to their roots. Zac shares, "'Nice And Easy' is the most 'American Authors' song we've released in a long time. Not only did we write and produce the song completely ourselves, but we really wanted to make something fun while keeping our signature message of hope." Since forming at Berklee College of Music in Boston during 2006, American Authors have become embedded in both popular music and culture. After grinding it out independently, they dropped their debut album, Oh, What A Life, in 2014 on Island Records. It eventually went gold and yielded the triple-platinum anthem "Best Day of My Life." It not only soared to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it also became ubiquitous across film, television, video games, and sports. To date, they've landed over 600 syncs and counting. 2016's What We Live For housed the Top 20 hit "Go Big or Go Home." In 2019, their third full-length, Seasons, picked up widespread acclaim. That spirit carries over to the single "Nice & Easy". Entirely crafted by the band themselves, it kicks off their fresh chapter with boisterous horn-powered production, handclaps, and sunny inspiring lyrics. Zac trades verses with McGrath before the chantable chorus rings out with the ultimate upbeat mantra, "I'm gonna kick back, just relax, enjoy the summer breeze and slow it down just for now, take it nice and easy." In the end, American Authors are doing exactly what they were always meant to do. We want to hear from you! Interview with Bexley
We had the pleasure of interviewing Bexley over Zoom video! The Law of Attraction. Mysterious, yet undeniable. A kind of magic. How else does one explain the union of three gifted musicians from far-flung locations and diverse influences? Seattle-born Amanda Hardy, finding her considerable voice and songwriting skills in the works of Alice in Chains and Chris Cornell. Canadian Steve Costello, accomplished blues/rock guitarist, inspired by the likes of Led Zeppelin and Queens of the Stone Age. And Tosh Peterson, SoCal drummer (Machine Gun Kelly, Ashton Irwin, Bryce Vine, Carlie Hanson) and Jaws fan, reaching fresh heights in the art form through supernatural focus and self-discipline, fast outgrowing his iconic influences. Tip all this into the mix and what do you get? Grungy, melodic, distortion-driven rock with heartfelt lyrics and myriad vocal layers. Bexley. A uniquely original vibe." Interview with Mobley
Along with Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Mobley over Zoom video! Austin-based artist Mobley grew up all over the world, from the Spanish Mediterranean to the California coast. Perhaps it's because of this itinerant childhood that he finds it so hard to sit still. Mobley does it all: he's a songwriter, producer, visual artist, filmmaker, and a charismatic frontman with a reputation for kinetic live shows. He's composed dozens of pieces for stage and television (HBO, FOX, NBC, ESPN), and played hundreds of US and international tour dates (with the likes of Phantogram, JUNGLE, Cold War Kids, and James Blake, and at festivals including Lollapalooza, ACL, Voodoo, and Hangout). Mobley wrote most of his forthcoming record, "Young & Dying in the Occident Supreme," while in Thailand, finding inspiration as an outsider looking in on his own country from a different vantage. "Young & Dying" is a sonic critique of white supremacy, a theme Mobley felt even more urgently while not in the United States. The record glides between musical idioms with all the ease you'd expect from someone who grew up a perennial new kid, with Mobley at turns cribbing Ennio Morricone, keening over a psychedelic gallop, or indulging in a futuristic art rock strut. "Young & Dying in the Occident Supreme" via Last Gang Records is out now. We want to hear from you! Interview with Knifes
We had the pleasure of interviewing Knifes over Zoom video! Knifes are back with their next installment of virulent riffs and contagious melodies. "Serial killers, cocaine, and car crashes," exclaims Knifes singer and guitarist, Ben Young. These are the themes that found their way onto Knifes second EP, Regression To The Mean. Young goes on to explain, "This EP is a feral house cat pretending to play nice so it can come indoors. Don't let your guard down." Regression To The Mean stays loyal to the 90s alt rock influences that Knifes have come to be known for, continuing to subvert catchy pop melodies with time signature changes and monumental riffs, yet it's also is a natural evolution into more transgressive themes and new approaches to songwriting. "These songs are what we wanted to sound like on our first EP, but we didn't know how to get here at the time." Knifes members, Ben Young, Brian Diaz, and Warren Johnson, all met while touring, working as roadies for the world's biggest rock bands. Young and Johnson met in 2015 while working as backline techs for Linkin Park. Knifes came to fruition after Young filled in for Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson. "Playing lead guitar for a handful of Linkin Park shows gave me the confidence to start working on my own material," Young explains. Diaz joined the band a few years later when they were all working for Fall Out Boy. Collectively they have worked for the some of the best rock bands in the world including Guns 'n Roses, Slipknot, Deftones, Stone Temple Pilots…the list goes on. "We were supposed to be onstage tuning guitars with Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and Weezer last summer," laments Diaz, "but then we suddenly found ourselves with extra time on our hands to finish these songs." This is not a quarantine album though. Knifes had been working on recording these songs long before being confined to their homes. "We were lucky enough to record drums in the private studio of one of the world's richest billionaires. The rest was recorded in various places around Los Angeles wherever we could steal time," explains Johnson. Regression To The Mean was produced by Knifes and mixed by Ethan Mates. Interview with slenderbodies
We had the pleasure of interviewing slenderbodies over Zoom video! Having spent the past months building buzz with a string of stellar single releases, LA based indie-pop duo slenderbodies today reveal their stand out new project are we?, a sprawling body of work showcasing the razor sharp musicianship and sky reaching vocals that have seen the duo rack up millions of streams and widescale global press acclaim. The project arrives with a striking video for new single mirror, on which the band state: "mirror is a song about coveting someone, falling in love with them and pursuing friendship even though you want nothing more than to tell them everything you feel about them. this song is painted over the backdrop of them moving away, and how at the last moment everything fades away except the feelings toward them. we wanted to make a song for those who find the time and space to share how they feel, as well as those who carry the feelings with them and aren't able to express them to the person they love." More on slenderbodies…. slenderbodies first emerged in 2016 with sotto voce, a mesmerizing, eight-track EP that took its name from an Italian phrase meaning to speak softly but with emphasis. Recorded remotely with guitarist Benji Cormack living in Santa Cruz and singer/guitarist Max Vehuni residing in Los Angeles (the two had met at college a few years earlier), the collection quickly caught fire on Spotify, where it racked up millions of streams without any label or radio support. The next year, the pair returned with a second EP, 'fabulist,' which launched their following into the stratosphere as lead single anemone garnered more than 30 million plays across platforms. Though the duo had never planned on performing live, they soon found themselves onstage in front of massive crowds around the world, sharing bills with the likes of Mura Masa, Passion Pit, PVRIS, and Milky Chance. In 2018 and 2019, Vehuni and Cormack released two more EPs (fabulist: extended and soraya, respectively) earning ecstatic reviews on both sides of the pond and landing coveted spots at Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza. The bands 2019 album, komorebi, gave us an intoxicating blend of textures and genres and garnered over 50 Million streams. Applauded by the likes of Clash, Consequence of Sound, Wonderland, Highsnobiety, Entertainment Weekly, Flaunt & more, the album showed the band's remarkable rise from a self-released bedroom project to a touring and streaming powerhouse. Interview with MJ Songstress
We had the pleasure of interviewing MJ Songstress over Zoom video! Fort Lee, New Jersey vocal powerhouse MJ Songstress recently released the music video for her new single "Carousel". The first thing you're likely to notice is the intoxicating beat, an unmistakable sonic signature with a mid-range thump, "Carousel" is a sensual, immersive and propulsive bop, designed to pick you up and whirl you around into carefree, spiritual existentialism. It's a song that's guaranteed to fill the dance floor, and one that will surely put you in the mood for new love. If all there was to "Carousel" was its engaging sound, it would still be well worth spinning. But MJ Songstress isn't just about visceral thrills, she's also an experienced composer and multi-instrumentalist with a deep understanding of musical composition. She's given us a song that would sound just as good if it was presented on solo piano as it would bumping out of the speakers at one of NYC's legendary nightclubs or London's Vauxhall scene. She's pushing toward an unprecedented fusion of pop, jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and Latin music – one that represents everywhere she's been and everywhere she's determined to go. Although she has already accomplished a lifetime of achievements, she is not one to press pause. She's been a successful contestant on televised singing competitions on both sides of the border. MJ Songstress was part of Team Usher and a Top 20 finisher on the sixth season of NBC's The Voice, and she was a finalist on Televisa's La Voz México. In her career, she's worked with legends: Swizz Beatz, Nile Rodgers and CHIC, Wyclef Jean, A.B. Quintanilla y Los Kumbia All-Starz, to name a few. "Carousel" is the culmination of all the work she's done so far, and it's likely to appeal to anybody wishing to be swept away by love. In addition to her compositional talents, MJ Songstress is also a skilled dancer, and for the music video for "Carousel" director Sage Love chose to highlight MJ's natural grace in the video." The star is a stunning presence onscreen, and wherever the camera finds her – a swimming pool, a club, on a balcony overlooking the city skyline – she looks simultaneously natural and radiant. Astutely, Sage Love distresses and fades some of the footage and gives the entire clip the feel of a rapturous dream. MJ Songstress dances through it with a smile, elusive and alluring, beckoning the viewer to get to know her better. We want to hear from you!
