Interview with VOILÀ

We had the pleasure of interviewing Luke Eisner and Gus Ross of VOILÀ over Zoom video! VOILÀ - an LA-based pop-rock duo - have released a powerful new single "Therapy", their second release of their year following up "Drinking with Cupid" "Therapy" speaks to those messy post break-up feelings, while also serving as a reminder for young people to get the help they need to address their mental health. By stripping away the toxic masculinity notions that you can't show your emotions and seek outside help, Luke and Gus are attempting to destigmatize therapy for young people across the board. Luke and Gus shared some words about what the song means to them: Therapy is a song that highlights our missing pieces. We all have them but it's the moment that we lose someone we love that we realize that they may have just been a stopgap for our own insecurities all along. This song highlights the angst associated with losing our safety net - "How did we go from being the perfect two to strangers in a room." About VOILÀ Luke Eisner and Gus Ross make up the L.A.- based pop- rock duo, VOILÀ. Respectively from Wisconsin and London, the two combine authentic production, emotive vocals and magnetic lyricism as a duo. With over 15 million streams on their music to date, their music has seen the tops of Spotify & Apple playlists and Shazam charts. After success on Spotify and BBC radio, the band drew eminent praise from the likes of Billboard, Pandora, Ones to Watch, and more. In the past two years, they have supported the likes of Kesha, The Fray, X Ambassadors, and Walk the Moon. Luke is also the lead in the Netflix romantic comedy, "Tall Girl," produced by McG. They currently have songs in play with multiple major label artists and have over 800k combined followers on the band and individual accounts We want to hear from you! Interview with Rare Americans (James Returns!)

We had the pleasure of interviewing Rare Americans over Zoom video! Vancouver's Rare Americans invite listeners into a new world of percolating alt-pop and carnivalesque, backpack hip-hop with the announcement of their new album Rare Americans 3: Jamesy Boy & The Screw Loose Zoo out October 21st. Along with the announcement the band has shared the summer-soaked single "Hey Sunshine" featuring a fleeting romance between a horse named Alfred and a cat. Co-produced by the band alongside Grammy and JUNO winner Chin Injeti (Drake, Eminem) and Ben Kaplan (Snoop Dogg, Bootsy Collins, Shakira) who also won a JUNO for his work on Rare Americans' "Brittle Bones Nicky" and also featuring two-time Grammy-nominee D Smoke, RA3 is set in the animated universe of Rhythm Kitchen. The story begins after Jamesy Boy (the album's protagonist) is invited to the Rhythm Kitchen by his mentor, who notices he is grappling with internal demons. Documented through a series of animated music videos, the new concept album RA3 takes place during Jamesy Boy's (AKA frontman James Priestner's) trip through Rhythm Kitchen. Each song is a memory rooted in Priestner's real life. But this album isn't just about Priestner - album track "PHD," for example, highlights a fan and now close friend of the band, Nick, who was able to turn his life around after being misdiagnosed with bi-polar disorder at the age of 12. Nick is now in the process of receiving his "PHD" to help other kids in similar positions. Listeners will be able to see more of his story celebrated with an animated video character in the new album this fall. Since their debut in 2018, Rare Americans has amassed over 150M streams as an independent band, were featured in Warner's Scoob! The Movie and broke through the Billboard Hot 100 album charts with their independently released album RA2. Their song "Baggage" recently surpassed 5 Million YouTube views and is currently outranking Machine Gun Kelly and St. Vincent with the number two spot on Canada's Breaking Alt "Alternative Specialty" chart. Revisit the "Baggage" video HERE. On RA3 the four-piece band experiments not only with a new character-driven universe but with its widest variety of instruments to date. Listeners can expect ukulele, acoustic guitar, piano, Moog sub-bass, programmed drums, a melodica and more. Stay tuned for more to come from Rare Americans soon. ABOUT RARE AMERICANS Rare Americans began its journey while James and his older brother of 11 years Jared, a co-writer but not performing member in the band, were on a vacation together in the Caribbean. James recalls jokingly saying to Jared, "We should write some songs together," to which Jared responded, "Fuck that, what about an entire album?" A week and a half later, the two of them had created 15 songs in what would later become their eponymously-titled debut album. Since then, Rare Americans have rounded out the crew with the addition of Slovak guitarists Lubo Ivan and Jan Cajka, Ginger Chen on bass and drummer Duran Ritz. They've racked up over half a million monthly listeners on Spotify in the process. Rare Americans are telling their stories directly to anyone who wants — or needs — to listen. These tales are easy to relate to for anyone who's been down or has struggled to keep up, yet are also laced with devilish optimism and hope. "We're trying to inspire and empower our fans," Priestner states while discussing the band's mission. "We're an independent band, the underdogs, and I think a lot of our fans relate to that." Interview with Emily Daccarett

We had the pleasure of interviewing Emily Daccarett over Zoom video! Can music exist without the influence of fashion? For designer Emily Daccarett fashion and music can not be separated. Daccarett creates an immersive world of storytelling through music, film, and fashion. Each artistic direction begins with a beat that forms a story. From the start of her brand, she has fused those worlds together, creating a symbiotic flow between the two. She uses textiles, shapes, and sound as her tools to world building, and gives her audience the chance to step into those stories and experience it themselves. She graduated from Instituto Marangoni in Paris and the prestigious Ecole De La Chambre Syndicale de La Couture Parisienne, where she trained in the French technique of draping and pattern making. Soon after graduated from the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. She made her runway debut with Concept Shows during LA Fashion Week. Now she is pushing the boundaries of her imagination through synth-pop. Think of Blondie and David Lynch having a baby in 2020 and that's the direction her music takes. We want to hear from you! Interview with KOU (Kingdom of Us)

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jon Wilkes of KOU (Kingdom of Us) over Zoom video! In celebration of Earth Day back in April, activist rocker KOU (formerly of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus) has today dropped a fresh single "Tranquility" featuring The Sass Brothers plus an accompanying music video. Furthermore, KOU has partnered with the One Tree Planted charity in supporting their mission of bettering the environment with an exclusive, limited-edition merch drop. Speaking on the release, KOU's Jon Wilkes shares: "I came together with The Sass Brothers to write Tranquility because our planet is literally changing because of our actions. I kept seeing people just flat out not care. We partnered with One Tree Planted to show people how easy it is to make a huge difference! One dollar will plant one tree. Each tree helps to heal the damage we have done over decades and decades of industrial selfishness. Join us now and do whatever you can to help. This is about our home planet, let's save her together before it is too late!" One Tree Planted's Greenhouse Manager, Cassandra Vitiello, also commented on the partnership: "We are delighted to be partnering with KOU on the release of Tranquility. As the song suggests, our Earth needs our attention, and together we can make a difference! The trees KOU and their fanbase will be supporting planting projects which help restore wildfire damage areas, provide habitat for biodiversity, support communities, and so much more. Interview with Pine Hill Haints

We had the pleasure of interviewing Pine Hill Haints over Zoom video! Alabama's roots rebels, the Pine Hill Haints, have shared The Song Companion of a Lonestar Cowboy, their debut for Muscle Shoals-based "scrappy" (Billboard) indie label Single Lock Records. Over fifteen tracks filled with "sizzling electric guitar riffs" and "sage advice" via their storytelling lyrics (Rolling Stone), the Haints take listeners on a journey through tracks that veer into swampy blues, Sun Records-style country and rockabilly, and cajun-flavored, accordion-driven pop, all mixed with "the right amount of weird" (Alabama Life & Culture). Born out of skateboarding culture and formed in a cemetery, the Haints have spent 25 years on the road resurrecting all kinds of music, including traditional folk, blues, and gospel, that has passed out of the mainstream in a style they call "Alabama Ghost Country." The new album is just that - fiery rockabilly-meets-Irish-jig rave-ups and catchy squeezebox pop tunes filled with pounding tom-toms and energetic fiddles, mixed with tributes to the legendary Satchel Paige, John Henry, and Billy The Kid while lead singer Jamie Barrier's strong tenor voice rings familiar and friendly, with deep echoes of everything from John Lee Hooker to Buddy Holly to Johnny Cash. In addition to being included in Rolling Stone's roundup of best new country songs, the Haints have developed a cult following from their quarter century on the road (check them out in action in the video for their single "Back To Alabama" HERE), playing with a sense of abandon that comes from thousands of gigs behind them - taking place anywhere from college apartments to major festivals. American Songwriter noted in praise of these purveyors of Southern music tradition, "The Pine Hill Haints are not so much interested in popularizing non-mainstream folk as they are adamant in dwelling in their ancestral influences to endure a long line of stylistic storytelling." True to their home-state roots, the Haints have played all 20 years of the 280 Boogie Festival at the infamous and beloved Standard Deluxe in Waverly, Alabama. Lead singer Jamie Barrier told Bluegrass Situation of the festival: "If playing at Standard Deluxe is what 'making it' is, that's all I want. Anything beyond that is extra." Check out the Haints' performance of "Satchel Paige Blues," honoring the history-making Mobile-born pitcher, for this year's 20th anniversary of the 280 Boogie Festival HERE. The Pine Hill Haints are Jamie Barrier (lead vocals, guitar), Kat Barrier (mandolin, washboard, saw), Stevie LaBlanc (washtub, banjo), Brian Borden (snare drum) and Justin Ward (accordion, trombone). Interview with Cham

We had the pleasure of interviewing Cham over Zoom video! Having amassed success spanning over three decades for his pioneering milestones and culturally-shaping achievements in the space of Dancehall, Reggae, Hip Hop, and more, Cham (p.k.a Baby Cham) has crafted an undisputable legacy that remains peerless to the greatest in class. Today the multi Grammy Award-nominated, internationally acclaimed artist unleashes the highly anticipated visual to his fiery single "Lock Down." Lock Down takes on its masterful flare from the Clockwork Riddim, which is produced by eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt. Bolt, in a few short years, has shown that there is nothing off the table for him, and that success follows in every endeavor as long as passion is upheld. WATCH "LOCK DOWN" HERE "Lock Down" find the dancehall legend in his element, spitting fiery, conscious-rooted lyrics over iconic bass-knocking beats made to uplift and rejoice. Cham encapsulates what life has been like in Jamaica for almost two years in a cinematically emotive way, using the extraordinary natives of Jamacia as leading stars for his genius real & raw storytelling. ABOUT CHAM The rich, bass-laced, fast-paced world of dancehall music means only the best of the best survive. Not many can go through a name change and still remain relevant. Many would say that even less can manage to take a break, tour the world and return to the scene to command an audience like never before. Clearly, you've never met the Grammy-nominated dancehall-superstar that is Cham. Having started in the music business by watching artists like John Wayne and Super Cat rehearse on his uncle's Waterhouse-based sound system, Studio Mix, Cham doesn't look at his musical career as a 'job'. He has all right to, though. With his unmistakable voice and remarkable stage presence, Cham has made his name in dancehall all over the world. He first emerged on the dancehall kaleidoscope in the mid-1990s, making tracks on various juggling riddims including the immortal Showtime Riddim which spawned his hit Galang Gal. Then, in 2000, under the moniker Baby Cham, gave the world his debut album Wow: The Story, and hits such as Many Many, Boom Tune, Man & Man and more. The formula of Cham's deep baritone voice and rustic, lyrically lethal tracks made sure that he would stake his claim in the annals of music history. While musical naysayers continued yapping about the limited potential of dancehall, Cham's crossover hit Vitamin Sstruck a nerve… with the world. The song was perfect. Vitamin S racked up uncountable hours on disc jock turntables around the world, and led the artiste, whose real name is Damian Beckett, to a deal with Atlantic Records, where he joined fellow Jamaican Sean Paul and American rap stars like Lil' Kim and Fat Joe. His loyalty to Jamaica and Jamaica's culture never faded, and his goal was always to bring dancehall music to international ears. In fact, Cham can be quoted as saying, many years ago, that he wants Madhouse Productions to be an international household name. It came as no surprise when Cham and Madhouse worked together to produce Ghetto Story, his biggest hit to date. The song hit at the end of 2005, and again, Cham took over the world. The song was a narrative of the rough and rugged life Cham overcame to become the man he is today, through the thick and thin of some of Jamaica's toughest garrison communities and streets. Having put the song into perspective and silencing all naysayers yet again, Cham went a step further and attracted none other than Alicia Keys to remix the now worldwide hit single. The world waited on bated breath for the release of Ghetto Story's official video, and again the world watched in awe as Cham sent dancehall music to new heights, shattering glass ceilings on the way to the top. But that wasn't the first time Cham's unmistakable style and voice ended up on a track with an international artist. His list of collaborations includes Foxy Brown, M.I.A., Nina Sky, Mario and more. But for Cham, it's not about the accolades and the egos. Having amassed many more international smash singles over the year such as the high-tempo, club-rocking hits Wine, That Way and Tun Up, Back Way and more places Cham's versatility as an artist on display for the world to see across an array of generations. Interview with Josh Rand of Stone Sour / The L.I.F.E. Project

We had the pleasure of interviewing Josh Rand of The L.I.F.E. Project and Stone Sour over Zoom video! The L.I.F.E. Project - the formidable musical partnership of Grammy nominated Stone Sour guitarist, Josh Rand and co-songwriter & vocalist Casandra Carson - have dropped their debut, self-titled EP today. The 5 track collection can be streamed in-full here with CD and Vinyl available exclusively through the bands webstore here and via Nuclear Blasts' stores here. In celebration of the release, the duo have also released a lyric video for their track "Purgatory" which can be streamed here and watched here "Purgatory" is the fourth single to be released from the EP and follows previous singles "A World On Fire", "Ignite" and the band's debut release "The Nothingness" which was featured on several major playlists across streaming platforms including Rock Hard on Spotify, Breaking Metal on Apple Music, Break Through Rock on Amazon and Metal Radar on Deezer. "The Nothingness" was also included on SiriusXM Octane's Test Drive the week it was released. Nurturing the project from concept to execution, the instrumentation on 'The L.I.F.E. Project EP' was written, arranged, recorded and produced by Rand in his home studio and mixed by Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Parkway Drive). Completing the collaborative effort with the addition of Carson, The L.I.F.E. Project presents an important milestone in an already decorated career for Rand, one that was punctuated with the addition of a one-of-a-kind vocal lead that understood how to compliment the music with her lyrical pen. The resulting introduction of The L.I.F.E. Project is a five-track EP that offers a complete presentation of a songwriter asserting his stride after more than two decades steeped in his craft. Building off the sonic stamp he established during his six albums, twenty-year tenure with Stone Sour, Rand's current iteration holds true to his track record, without relying on it, all while penning a new chapter in his artistic anthology. Stylistically, The L.I.F.E. Project is a fluid combination of classic metal sensibility and Rand's penchant for pushing the boundaries of contemporary heavy. From the ethereal, cinematic soundscape of the piano-latent ballad in "Worthwhile," to the sonic sledgehammer of "A World On Fire," the broad spectrum resonates as especially impressive. Between Rand's instrumental framework, accentuated by Carson's ability to articulate poignant stanzas, The L.I.F.E. Project remains a passion project culminating in perfect collaboration. ABOUT THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT Arriving at the intersection of time and circumstance, multi-instrumentalist, veteran songwriter, and long-tenured guitarist of the Grammy-nominated rock outfit Stone Sour, Josh Rand, found himself at a proverbial fork in the road. Rotating back to real world after an extensive two-year run on the road completing Stone Sour's Hydrograd album cycle, Rand resumed his routine of immersing himself in his craft, songwriting with clear intent - breaking new ground and exploring new sounds. Shortly thereafter, a series of events would prompt Rand to make some significant professional decisions. The pivot would find Rand continuing to push his creative pace as a songwriter, while devising a brand-new outlet that would feature his stylistic signature throughout. Accustomed to working with the kind of vocalist that is equally commanding and versatile, Rand knew he wanted to maintain a standard of a dynamic lead, while bringing something new to the space of hard rock and metal. As chance would have it, just a few degrees of separation stood between Rand and vocalist Casandra Carson. The resulting introduction of The L.I.F.E. Project is a five-track EP that offers a complete presentation of a songwriter asserting his stride after more than two decades steeped in his craft. Building off the sonic stamp he established during his six albums, twenty-year tenure with Stone Sour, Rand's current iteration holds true to his track record, without relying on it. On its heels, "hailey beebs" coasts along on a downtempo groove wrapped in warm shimmering keys. almost monday's vocalist Dawson Daugherty delivers the quotable reprise with playful swagger before confidently carrying the swooning refrain, "I'm alive with you." Ones To Watch called it the "perfect summer song" and praised the group–rounded out by guitarist Cole Clisby and bassist Luke Fabry–by saying they "should be everyone's go-to for an instant mood-booster." Elsewhere on the EP, "this is growing up" gallops from a danceable groove into the rush of an arena-sized hook, while "til the end of time" hops along on tambourine and a funky riff towards a bright and bold refrain. The EP closes out with a stripped-down version of "this is growing up." til the end of time follows almost monday's debut EP don't say you're ordinary. Despite being released in the middle of a pandemic, the trio was able to make waves with their first single "broken people." It landed them a Top 20 spot on Alternative Radio and led to a collab with GRAMMY-nominated duo Sofi Tukker. To date, the group has generated more than 42 million combined audio and video streams and have been declared ones to watch in 2021 by GQ, FLAUNT Magazine, Amazon Music, Shazam and more. It turns out the world needed some Cali rays during the pandemic as the band managed to emerge in 2020 with an unprecedented 30 million overall streams, uplifting audiences everywhere in the process. The San Diego trio—Dawson Daugherty (vocals), Cole Clisby (guitar) and Luke Fabry (bass)— crafted their 2020 debut EP don't say you're ordinary in Brooklyn and Los Angeles with producers Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac) and Simon Oscroft (The Naked and Famous, DREAMERS). don't say you're ordinary ignited a string of buzzing anthems, beginning with "parking lot view" and "come on come on." Meanwhile, the lead single "broken people," and the Sofi Tukker remix, crystallized their sun-kissed signature style with a bold bass bounce and empowering refrain as it's generated nearly 32 million combined audio and video streams so far and cracked the Top 20 at Alternative Radio. Along the way, they've attracted a growing fan base through a combination of danceable rhythms and uplifting hooks. In 2021, they set the stage for their second EP til the end of time with "live forever," received praise from Earmilk, Flaunt, Ones To Watch, and more right out of the gate. Additionally, Alternative Press touted it and included them among "40 New Artists You Need To Hear in February," and GQ Australia predicted them to be one of "21 Breakout Musicians to Know in 2021." The band will also make their festival debut at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, BottleRock, and Firefly this year. Interview with Brandon Jenner

We had the pleasure of interviewing Brandon Jenner over Zoom video! Brandon Jenner's music feels like a lot of different things—often all at once. In some ways, it's like your childhood best friend disclosing an important truth by the glow of a beach bonfire. In other ways, it's like the moment you stop worrying about what other people think and can laugh and smile anywhere without apology. However, the Los Angeles-born singer, songwriter, and producer describes what his music feels like best. "I try to make it feel like a warm, cozy blanket," he laughs. "I hope I'm able to be that way in life as well!"' Music always gave him this warmth. With a singer-songwriter mom, he went from "being a fly on the wall" in his stepdad's studio (just Google his stepfather!) to developing his own relationship with music when Ben Harper's "Forever" got him through his first true breakup. After a pair of EPs and major syncs as one half of Brandon & Leah, he launched his solo career with the independent Burning Ground EP in 2016. The title track amassed over 26.5 million Spotify streams as he claimed coveted real estate on popular playlists such as Your Favorite Coffeehouse, License to Chill, and more. In between touring with the likes of Rachael Yamagata and Joshua Radin, he unveiled the Face The World EP [2018], Plan On Feelings EP [2019], and So Childish EP [2020]. After a whirlwind of gigs around the world, marriage, and the birth of his twin sons, he personally wrote, recorded, and produced his Nettwerk debut EP, Short of Home, in the middle of the Global Pandemic. Coupling life changes with a lifetime devoted to music thus far, he opened up like never before. "I think I've gotten better at giving myself the license to be truly vulnerable," he admits. "It's about what the songwriter is willing to let the listener in on. I'm not trying to overcompensate for the blessings in my life anymore. I'm writing about the changes in my life. I wanted to go back to what got me to play music in the first place, which is singer-songwriters with songs that make you think and feel deeply. For the first time in a long time, I have a label partner too, and I'm really excited about that." He introduces Short of Home with "Something About You." Faintly plucked acoustic guitar wraps around his intimate delivery as he delivers a love letter to his wife. "The lyrics just seemed to roll out like a runaway train," he says. "It was an overwhelming feeling that brought me to tears. I'm so happy and grateful. It captures my first impression of my wife and my love for her." Originally penned in some "hipster-y hotel in New York," slide guitar echoes underneath dusty verses on "There You Are" as his high-register hypnotizes on the hook. "It's mostly about how society forces us to lose sight of the fact the only thing we have is the present," he admits. "We spend so much of our time planning for the future—which causes stress—that we spend very little time in the present. It's a reminder we have lungs that work and hearts that beat. You've got to silence the noise of society and be in the moment." "Give It All You've Got" rides along on upbeat guitar towards an affirmation to "live life without filtering yourself through the opinions of others." Then, there's "Life For Two." Written at the request of a dying fan in Denmark, he gives her two children "a song about what their mom went through." Everything culminates on "Wolves." A piano-laden rumination, he croons a heartbreaking refrain, "No, you're not special to me anymore." "It's the moment when you're over someone," he comments. "It was written with a lot of emotion because it's what I was going through at the time. It's honest. I'm not trying to do anything other than express myself. I found myself in an energetic shift that needed to take place." In the end, Brandon Jenner's music really feels like home. "In the past, I just wanted people to respect me as a musician," he leaves off. "With my last name, it was something I was hung up on. I don't care so much about that anymore. What I really want is for somebody to feel the emotion I did—to feel better, safer, more inspired, and like the world has meaning. I went through so many challenges and changes and found relief. If you do as well, it's all worth it." We want to hear from you!
