Interview with Manovski & Tenchi

We had the pleasure of interviewing Manovski and Tenchi over Zoom video! Manovski has been a name rising through the ranks in the producer and songwriter community, catching the eyes of those that matter across the industry. From his own productions such as 'Where I Belong', co-writing with artists including Cheat Codes and Meghan Trainor, and co-producing regularly with Sigala on hit records like 'Just Got Paid', he now returns to the fore in collaboration with Tenchi for the 'Beautiful' sound of the season. Tenchi, eagle-eyed fans may know, is one half of esteemed duo Sondr, gaining over 150M streams alongside collaborations with Felix Jaehn, VIZE and many more, also lending his production/ songwriting skills to David Guetta, Galantis and Little Mix's recent chart smash 'Heartbreak Anthem'. Now, as the pairing of Manovski and Tenchi unite on 'Beautiful', the track showcases their collective talents in a blazing form of slick technique. Commencing with a thumping house beat that sets the tone for an uplifting, ensuing party starter of an anthem, tuned-up synth chords bring a dose of shining, ultraviolet brightness that is destined for crossover success. Bubbling through the melody with rising waves of feel-good tones that wash over the listener, the high-reaching male topline soars "Even when the feelings start to fade / elevating hearts run out of space/ even if we're just a phase/ you are still beautiful", to tell an anecdote of acceptance and finding positivity in every situation. Dominated by a richness of keys that punctuate through the reverbed, processed loops of vocal come the second verse, Manovski and Tenchi's Midas touch of creating irresistible, unforgettable productions is undeniable and just begs to be listened to on sandy beaches, with a blast of passion, as the sound of the Summer! Speaking on the production, Tenchi said: "It was a blast to work on this record together with Manovski and Hight (on vocals). Hight and I had an initial idea that we sent over to Manovski, he jumped on it straight away and instantly made it better. After a couple back and forths we ended up going back into the studio together to write the verse part and ended up with what you're hearing today! It's super fun to make records with good friends, and I'm in love with the uplifting feel good vibe we landed on!" We want to hear from you! Interview with Blanks

We had the pleasure of interviewing Blanks over Zoom video! Netherlands-hailed indie-pop artist and effervescent rising star, Blanks, has "Nothing Lasts Forever And That's OK", his shimmering debut album, alongside new single "Dance Like This". Having long felt a strong connection between music and his own memories, the concept behind his new album came innately to the "rising songwriting force" (CLASH). Across ten tracks, Blanks draws inspiration from the bittersweet nostalgia of his past, like finding first love and unforgettable summers spent with friends. The pop maverick intricately weaves vulnerable storytelling amidst an endless spectrum of moods and sonic influences. From the synth-driven riffs of the 80s, to the sounds of popular music from Blanks' youth, "Nothing Lasts Forever And That's OK", will instantly carry you away to another time and place. The first half of the album, comprised of the project's five official singles, sees Blanks unfurling a classic tale of summertime love. From its feverish beginnings on high-energy bops like "What You Do To Me" and "Classic Armstrong", to the moment it all comes crashing down on the sombre piano-driven ballad, "I'm Sorry". To bring the story to life, Blanks also rolled out a five part visual series that channels a much loved nostalgia of teen movie cliches. In the latter half, Blanks reminisces on the summer gone by with an underlying sense of melancholy. Though the memories will always remain, he realizes that all experiences are truly once in a lifetime. Latest single "Dance Like This" accurately illustrates this feeling, "the instrumental builds on the notion of time that seems to keep unconditionally going (clock sound), while the lyrics explain the concept of realizing from the bottom of your heart it's about to be over" - Blanks. It's a feeling that Blanks knows all too well after losing his best friend at a young age. With a fervent approach to making music, Blanks hopes to encourage his listeners to cherish every experience and make the most of their time on earth. Having spent the last few years releasing a steady stream of songs, as well as being a hugely popular music production content creator, Blanks knew it was time for his next challenge. Writing for "Nothing Lasts Forever And That's OK", began during the height of the pandemic, with many production sessions taking place over Zoom, often from remote and inspiring locations, like the Maldives or a cabin in the depths of the woods. As Executive Producer and a seasoned multi-instrumentalist, Blanks wrote, composed and produced much of the album himself, whilst enlisting the assist of others on "Turn Around", "Never Have I Ever", and "I'm Sorry". With creative energy abound, Blanks was able to explore new ideas and showcase the breadth of his immense music talents. Looking back on the process, he shares "I guess it was a combination of Scandinavian music magic, Maldives good vibes and excitement. We want to hear from you! Interview with Can't Swim

We had the pleasure of interviewing Can't Swim over Zoom video! CAN'T SWIM have released their new album Change of Plans, on Pure Noise Records. The New Jersey band had recently dropped the video for the first single "Deliver Us More Evil." Watch it here. "'Deliver Us More Evil' was one of those songs that I knew right off the bat would be a single someday for Can't Swim," says vocalist Chris LoPorto. "I think I came home from tour and sat down in my studio and wrote the entire thing in an afternoon. One of my favorite songwriters said in an interview that a good song should only take a half-hour to write. When I listen to 'Deliver Us More Evil,' it really sounds like the future of the band to me, a road I have been wanting to go down for a long time." As for the visual, he says, "The video was shot in Brooklyn, New York by Benjamin Lieber. It was the first time we were all in the same room since COVID. Almost two years without touring and seeing each other made the day feel more special. Performing with the two dancers and being directed by Ben made me miss touring and doing this band full-time. The imagery displayed in the video tie into a lot of the themes on the album." Ultimately, Can't Swim feel that Change of Plans is "the most Can't Swim record yet." LoPorto says, "All of our endeavors as a band have led us to make what I think is the most honest and transparent album in our discography. We spent way less time recording what we thought we should be writing and put down whatever came naturally. The recording process was certainly the easiest to date as well — we knew what we wanted going into it. I'm constantly writing songs and some of the tracks on Change of Plans have been in the demo stage for almost four years now so it feels great to finally have them all together on one release." Change of Plans was produced, mixed, and mastered by Will Putney (A Day to Remember, Every Time I Die, Body Count, Knocked Loose) of Graphic Nature Audio and is the culmination of everything Can't Swim have been building and exploring over the last six years, combining their signature visceral lyricism and cathartic rock sound with influences ranging from the worlds of folk to EDM. One could say it's a little bit of everything all rolled into one, and in a way, that's true. When life is more unpredictable than ever, Can't Swim are striking the perfect balance of hope and realism by writing songs that embrace the chaos of life. They want to find and harness a vibe that makes living a bit easier for everyone, and with each release, they're getting closer to that goal. The band will also head back out on the road this November with Silverstein and The Plot in You. All dates are below. We want to hear from you! Interview with Bluhauz

We had the pleasure of interviewing Bluhauz over Zoom video! Throughout his life, singer/guitarist Bluhauz has experienced a truly unpredictable and unprecedented journey. From his native Argentina to living in Miami, from admiring Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page to being mentored by him, from attending Berklee College of Music to playing some of the most famed festivals in the world - Bluhauz has done all of these things. Now, with his debut solo album, BLUHAUZ, he's setting off on his biggest adventure yet - musically, spiritually, and personally. Bluhauz began his musical journey while growing up in Argentina. A pivotal moment came when he was thirteen years old, when his musical horizons were greatly expanded after his Uncle Martin uploaded songs onto his iPod, giving him his first introduction to Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa and Pink Floyd. But he wasn't content to simply listen to this type of music: he wanted to create it, too, so he soon learned to play the guitar. As a teenager, he joined his first band who rehearsed in a blue house, which later inspired his "Bluhauz" artist moniker. When he was seventeen years old, he started playing shows - and immediately knew this is what he needed to do with his life Moving to the U.S. when he was twenty years old (though he'd been visiting family in America his whole life), Bluhauz enrolled at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston - where he promptly made his mark by remaining true to rock, instead of the school's typical jazz focus. In 2013, he formed the hard rock band Stone Giant with like-minded classmates. With his clear musical vision and trusted team backing him, Bluhauz is ready release this debut solo album and fully launch this latest phase in his career. Things already look promising: the three singles have all been well-received, leading to his much-praised appearance at the Billboard AR virtual festival last July. Given all the unexpected twists and turns his life has already taken, it will undoubtedly be interesting to watch - and hear - what Bluhauz does next. We want to hear from you! Interview with Ariana and The Rose

We had the pleasure of interviewing Ariana and the Rose over Zoom video! Ariana and the Rose returns with "Every Body", her first new music since pre-lockdown and the first glimmer of a sonic evolution steeped in personal perseverance and unbridled joy. In the past, Billboard has called Ariana and the Rose a "musical project specializing in lyrically sincere, sonically enveloping synth-pop", and with "Every Body" she is fortifying her place in a pop world that desperately needs to dance again. Written and produced alongside longtime collaborator Andy Highmore (his credits include AlunaGeorge & The Knocks), "Every Body" uses its unrelenting beat and hypnotic soundscape to deliver a message of unity & inclusivity to the dance floor. The video (filmed at House of Yes in Brooklyn and directed by the Emmy-winning Jason Sherwood) conjures up pre-COVID memories of dancefloors, late night clubs, and freedom, finding Ariana and the Rose dancing amidst a crowd of nightlife & NYC/LA art world legends, in alphabetical order: Amanda Lepore, Bex, Cakes Da Killa, CT Hedden, The Dragon Sisters, Kandy Muse, Laith Ashley, Love Bailey, Madison Rose, Marizol, Merlot, Rhea Litre, Rify Royalty, Ryan Burke, Spencer Ludwig, Zero Waste Daniel In early spring 2020, Ariana had a whole album of songs ready to release throughout the summer - effervescent, hopeful and carefree. But when COVID-19 shook the world and sent us all inside, she found herself disconnected from the material and ended up scrapping all of it, not thinking it appropriate to celebrate amongst the pandemic and social unrest of the country. As quarantine continued, she started from scratch, writing, composing and recording the music she wanted to hear once the world opened up again and we could once again unite on the dancefloor. "Every Body" is the first taste. The release of "Every Body" follows recent skyrocketing success on TikTok, when a video of a piano-assisted spoken word piece she posted earned an astounding 8 million views on the social media platform in less than a week. The video gained extra exposure when it was shared by the likes of Betches (via Instagram), NYT best-selling author Meena Harris & Tony-nominated actress Laura Benanti. She will also hit the road with Torres this September & October, as well as take the stage at the Treefort Music Festival & Austin City Limits Live (full dates below & here). In the past, Ariana and the Rose has been called "a refreshing burst of authenticity" by LadyGunn, and she has earned acclaim from Consequence of Sound, Paper Magazine, Vice, Time Magazine, Refinery 29, LOGO, and more. She is also the curator of the immersive music and art party "light + space" which has had numerous events across Manhattan & Brooklyn (including a residency at House Of Yes), as well as one-off performances in LA and London. Interview with Poupie

We had the pleasure of interviewing Poupie over Zoom video! French artist Poupie releases her debut album Enfant Roi via slowplay/Capitol Records. The 13-track project officially introduces her to the world, after having previously released a self-titled EP in 2019 and another titled FEU in 2020. The album is an ode to being different, with 13 songs in French, Spanish and English that, together, contain imaginative, nuanced, and mesmerizing concoctions of trap, pop, and reggae. It's an undoubtedly strong entrance for the quickly rising songstress, who is devoted to making her uniqueness the standard. The album arrives with a focus on the track "Mucha Labia" with Puerto Rican star Guaynaa. "This album is called 'Enfant Roi' which means king kid. It's an album about being a big kid in a rather hard world, but always maintaining a positive point of view and not taking anything for granted. It's about freedom, and how even with all of life's trials and tribulations, you can make your life look how you want it to," said Poupie about the album. Of "Much Labia feat. Guaynaa," she said: "Guaynaa is such an amazing person and character. He's different, he always has this humorous side, and I really wanted to connect our worlds on this song." Enfant Roi was preceded by its singles "Comme les Autres," "Thelma et Louise," and "Feux" (feat. Jul), the latter of which was first released in October 2020. To date, Poupie has amassed over 45 million total global streams, and was named a Spotify EQUAL artist in August of this year as well as being a part of both the Spotify RADAR 2021 program and Vevo Newcomer 2021 program.
