Interview with Benson Boone

We had the pleasure of interviewing Benson Boone over Zoom video! 19-year-old Benson Boone makes an auspicious debut today with a stunning single called "GHOST TOWN." A poignant ballad with unflinchingly honest lyrics and soaring vocals, this is the calling card of a major new talent. "Maybe you'd be happier with someone else, maybe lovin' me is the reason you can't love yourself," he sings over melancholy keys. "Before I turn your heart into a ghost town, show me everything we built so I can tear it all down." Get it HERE via Night Street/Warner Records and watch the video HERE. Benson penned "GHOST TOWN" based off emotions that were pulled from observing a friend's toxic relationship and realizing development in his own emotional maturity. "I saw that from an outside perspective and wondered what they could have done differently," the newcomer from Monroe, Washington explains. "Love can hurt more than it can help. Sometimes the best way of showing someone you care is by letting them go." Incredibly, the teenager was completely unaware of his prodigious talent until asked to join a band for his school talent show. Boone wowed everyone in the audience including himself and suddenly found his purpose. An audition for American Idol followed, but he withdrew despite being lavished with praise from judges. "It was a very hard choice," Boone admits. "I didn't want to show the world someone I'm not." That desire for authenticity fuels every aspect of Boone's artistry. From the hand-drawn "GHOST TOWN" cover to the black-and-white music video, which was filmed in his hometown with a little help from his real-life friends, the singer/songwriter doesn't want there to be any buffer between him and the listener. Signed and mentored by Imagine Dragons lead singer and founder of Night Street Records Dan Reynolds, Boone promises to be one of the breakout artists of 2021. We want to hear from you! Interview with Ben Barnes

We had the pleasure of interviewing Ben Barnes over Zoom video! BARNES celebrated his 40th birthday in a big way by giving his fans the one gift that they've been waiting years… His debut EP is finally out! After years of being directed, written for and edited in movies and television, this is his moment to shine the light on the five songs on Songs For You, lovingly crafted at his piano at home and presented unedited and straight from the heart. "11:11" is a track that could not be contained to one genre. The soul-pop vocal soars over a jazzy piano, sacred-feeling organ, Queen-inspired guitars and a bursting "Penny Lane" piccolo trumpet fanfare. With the '70s-style, rich, entirely organic instrumentation of all the tracks on Songs For You—produced by John Alagia (Paul Simon, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Herbie Hancock) and Jesse Siebenberg (Ke$ha, Miranda Lambert, Neil Young, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald)—BARNES is baring his soul through his music for the first time; hopeful, joyful, passionate, nostalgic, vulnerable and loving. For the past months, since before the pandemic started, BARNES has been filming himself in his Los Angeles home at his piano performing his favorite songs, including a stirring rendition of the Friends theme in honor of the HBO Max reunion special, which has prompted his 2.5 million social media followers to wonder and plead when he's finally releasing music of his own. Interview with Steve Conte

We had the pleasure of interviewing Steve Conte over Zoom video! New York City guitarist, singer and songwriter Steve Conte has found the way back to center stage with his first solo album in five years, the attitude-infused Bronx Cheer, out now on Wicked Cool Records. Long known for his memorable guitar work as a member of New York Dolls, as well as former Hanoi Rocks frontman Michael Monroe's band (with whom he still performs), Steve found international fame in recent years via his collaborations with Japanese composer and artist Yoko Kanno on the soundtracks to several hit anime series, including Cowboy Bebop. The core of Bronx Cheer consists of Steve on guitar and vocals with bass by his brother John Conte (Southside Johnny & The Jukes, David Bowie, Ian Hunter) and the renowned Charley Drayton (Keith Richards, Iggy Pop, The Replacements) on drums. Conte produced the album with Andrew Hollander, who in addition to work with Indie bands like White Rabbits has also composed and/or produced with Pop stalwarts like The Chainsmokers and Carly Rae Jepsen. Raised in a musical family – Steve's mother Rosemary Conte is a noted NY/NJ jazz singer – Steve started spending time in New York City as a kid, his father bringing him to his first Madison Square Garden concert, by none other than Chuck Berry. Some years later, Conte found himself playing an entire show onstage in Berry's band. His own music first gained notice when his band Company Of Wolves signed to Mercury Records, releasing a self-titled album on the label in 1990. Over the years he's also worked with Peter Wolf, Eric Burdon of The Animals, Willy DeVille, Billy Squier, Willie Nile, Maceo Parker, and even been Paul Simon's tour rehearsal vocal stand-in. Conte first met Wicked Cool founder Stevie Van Zandt when the Dolls played Van Zandt's Underground Garage Festival in 2004. We want to hear from you! Interview with DED (Joe Cotela Returns!)

We had the pleasure of interviewing DED over Zoom video! DED have been turning heads as one of rock's most promising newcomers since the release of their debut album Mis-An-Thrope, which racked up more than 25 million streams and spawned two Top 20 rock hits with "Anti-Everything" and "Remember the Enemy," while "Hate Me" tallied 15 million streams across DPS. The band has announced its second full length, School of Thought, out digitally via Suretone Records on October 15, with the physical release dropping on November 19. "We are elated to release our sophomore album School of Thought, as we really pushed ourselves outside of our comfort zone and that is where growth and great things can happen," shares singer Joe Cotela. "A school of thought is the perspective of a group of people who share common characteristics of opinion or outlook of a philosophy, cultural movement, or art movement. That is what The DED Nation is. It speaks to the lyrics and the foundation of the ethos of DED's message. We cover themes of self-empowerment, mental health, darkness, anger, futility, false idols, and being the change you want to see amongst others — everything it is to be a human while navigating through this life. I think it includes a broader spectrum of our influences and where we can venture creativity and dynamically as well. We feel it and we hope everyone else does, too." We want to hear from you! Interview with Andrew Belle

We had the pleasure of interviewing Andrew Belle over Zoom video! Andrew Belle writes songs by feel. The composition comes first. The melody follows. Only after Belle has an internal reaction to the composition do the lyrics finally come. Finding the right words to express what has always been there, but is only now being fully realized. Track by track. Belle writes songs by feel and Nightshade is a vibe. On Nightshade, Belle collaborated once again with long time producer Chad Copelin (LANY, Ben Rector, BRONCHO), James McAlister (Sufjan Stevens, The National), and fellow artist SYML - who co-wrote with Belle 'My Poor Heart' the first single off his fourth full length album. The track is a pulsing, driving love song that chronicles the phases of a seasoned relationship, with each chorus returning to the initial spark that drew the lovers together to begin with. When it came time to record the album, the Chicago-based singer-songwriter, chose to take his trusted collaborators to the vaunted Sonic Ranch Studios, located on the US-Mexico border in Tornillo, Texas. The studio compound, which sits on a 1,700-acre pecan orchard, boasts the world's largest residential recording studio complex and has been the birthplace of albums by Bon Iver, Beach House and a slew of other notable artists. A good portion of Nightshade takes on a subject that has become part of our cultural zeitgeist – mental health. Specifically, how we deal with life itself and why a lot of us seem to be drawn toward unhealthy coping mechanisms. While a few tracks address these themes head on – 'Spectrum', 'Inside Voices' and 'Surprise Surprise' – the album as a whole serves as a soundtrack for anyone driving out of a season of perpetual midnight in their life; toward a sunrise that is a little more hopeful - through a desert just north of the border. Nightshade is a vibe. We want to hear from you! Interview with Roses & Revolutions

We had the pleasure of interviewing Roses & Revolutions over Zoom video! Indie-pop duo Roses & Revolutions has just unveiled 'Midnight Monsters,' their gorgeous and expansive new EP, out today via Nettwerk Records. Glide Magazine premiered the EP's final single "When The Moment's Gone" this week, calling it "a scorching, boot-stomping rock anthem that is soulful and hard-hitting." "'When The Moment's Gone' is about the sickening realization that something really important has just passed you by," the band explains. "It's about reliving that feeling daily. You're on repeat. This is the only song on the EP that we were able to 'test out' at live shows. The audience's reaction and excitement really pushed us to record it, and it was actually the first song we finished for the EP." The songs on 'Midnight Monsters' were written in the middle of the night, in the strange hours before dawn when the world seems to stand still. There's a quality of magical realism in each of the six tracks, where synth and analog sounds mix to create something otherworldly. But the album could only have been written during this past year, as the world experienced a collective warping of time and place. Inspired by the dystopian quality of quarantine and the emotional demons that hit hardest at night, the band created a sweeping album that blurs fantasy and reality with a sense of timelessness and escape that unfolds like a short film noir. The premiere of "When The Moment's Gone" followed the release of the EP's lead single "Lower Than Low," featuring gorgeous, stacked harmonies that beautifully captured the utter stillness found in day's earliest hours. Roses & Revolutions is comprised of longtime collaborators Alyssa Coco (vocals) and Matt Merritt (guitar). Based in Rochester, NY, they first connected through music, playing in various bands together until it became apparent that there was a special creative alchemy between the two. They gained traction with their hit single "The Pines," leading to 11 million+ streams, a headlining tour, and syncs from Netflix, ABC, NBC, and more. But when lockdown threatened to deflate the momentum they had built, the duo took the opportunity to explore a new way of making music, turning their dark experience into a thing of beauty. Roses & Revolutions have just announced a string of tour dates in March 2022, opening for the acclaimed, gold-selling singer/songwriter Joshua Radin. Stay tuned for additional updates. Roses & Revolutions Tour Dates* Tuesday, March 15 – New York, NY – City Winery Friday, March 18 – Alexandria, VA – The Birchmere Saturday, March 19 – Boston, MA – City Winery Sunday, March 20 – Boston, MA – City Winery * Opening for Joshua Radin We want to hear from you! Interview with The Record Company

We had the pleasure of interviewing The Record Company over Zoom video! The Record Company's highly anticipated new album Play Loud is out now on Concord Records. Listen/stream HERE. "How High," the first single released from the LP, is currently #3 at AAA Radio. The track has also reached Top 3 on the Americana Singles Chart while Play Loud has been Top 3 on the Non-Comm Albums Chart in advance of its street date. Play Loud is produced by GRAMMY-winning producer Dave Sardy (Oasis, Wolfmother, Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem.) On the album, the group stretches out artistically and explores their far-flung influences. "We totally flipped the process on this record to allow for every idea and possibility, so it wasn't just the three of us, closed off in our bubble. It was like, 'Let's take some risks and see what we can really do,'" describes bassist Alex Stiff. The Record Company—consisting of guitarist/lead vocalist Chris Vos, bassist Alex Stiff and drummer Marc Cazorla—most recently released their EP Side Project (also via Concord Records), which finds the band reimagining and reconstructing some of their favorite tracks by a wide range of artists including Big Mama Thornton, Cypress Hill, INXS and Willie Dixon. Listen HERE. Play Loud is the follow-up to the band's critically lauded sophomore album All of This Life. Upon its release, Rolling Stone noted that the single "Life to Fix" "isn't so much a return to form as it is taking that form to a big new level," while NPR Music raved that the track "breathes new life into a style of music." The band's debut, Give It Back to You, earned them a GRAMMY nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album. The critically acclaimed record produced three Top Ten hits at Triple-A radio, including lead single "Off the Ground," which reached #1 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs chart. Entertainment Weekly describes their debut album as a "soul scorcher." The Record Company has appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," CBS "This Morning," NPR's "World Café" and SiriusXM, and has shared bills with John Mayer, My Morning Jacket, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Zac Brown Band.
