Interview with blondestandard

We had the pleasure of interviewing blondestand over Zoom video! Multi-talented artist, blondestandard (AKA Caroline Grace Vein). What began as a ramble of frustration became "BLUE EYES:'' the debut single that sounds like a love song with a deeper meaning that only sonic creation can uncover. From accessorizing her school uniforms to spending her high school days making magnificent visual art, expressing herself has always been a necessity for Caroline Grace Vein (AKA blondestandard). Although the 21-year-old has been singing her whole life, it was only around 3 years ago that she took the leap to overcome her fears of sharing her music with the world. After living a whole lotta life in the city of LA, the multi-talented, alternative pop artist is finally releasing her self-empowering and long-awaited debut single, BLUE EYES. "BLUE EYES" is a cathartic offering in the form of a powerful, alt-pop single pertaining to the male gaze in the music business. Like more of blondestandard's singles to come, this song is a sense of solace for all women in the industry and is sure to be stuck in your head from here on out. We want to hear from you! Interview with Gordon Goodwin

We had the pleasure of interviewing Gordon Goodwin over Zoom video! Multiple Grammy/Emmy Award winner Gordon Goodwin returns to the forefront of adventurous compositions and modern jazz with "The Reset," an urgent and topical 5-song EP, a bold foray into the intersection of composition and improvisation, a futuristic excursion brimming with purpose and cursive. From the 7-minute title track, which seems to channel the ethos of Chick Corea's Return to Forever, while unleashing its inner Dream Theater, to the funky sass and sizzle of "Six Feet Away," one thing is inherently certain, its calligraphy pulls back the curtain and soars into areas few big bands have ventured. Honoring the late great arranger/composer Sammy Nestico, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 96, with a pair of songs, the first being "My Man Sam" which swings with the same buoyancy as his former employer, Count Basie, for his Orchestra, and "Cell Talk," which was the last chart Nestico wrote while in his early 90s. Sammy's voice can be heard at the beginning of the song. Lovingly done, both expositions feel classic, yet fresh, an address to the best of us and what's next. The lone cover, and only vocal track, is a gorgeous reading of the David Foster-penned "Through the Fire," a song first made famous by Chaka Khan, this time beautifully delivered by vocalist Vangie Gunn, who, in addition to her career singing on TV and Film soundtracks, has performed with Johnny Mathis, Herb Alpert, Barry Manilow, Patti Austin, Justin Timberlake, Melissa Manchester and Take 6. As a companion piece, 11 alternate mixes of two of the tracks are being made available as bonus content via the official Gordon Goodwin online store at Bandwear. Fans can purchase the premium digital content as a stand-alone offering or buy any format of his most recent album, 2020's The Gordian Knot (on vinyl, CD, Blu-ray or flash drive), and receive a complimentary download of the tracks, 6 mixes of "Six Feet Away" and 5 mixes of the title track. Each mix highlights the solo efforts of a particular member of the Big Phat Band, so listeners can revel in the Marienthal soprano sax mix, the Rocha trumpet mix or the Goodwin Hammond B3 mix, to name a few. Interview with Spell Songs

We had the pleasure of interviewing Spell Songs over Zoom video! Spell Songs is a folk supergroup that celebrates nature's beauty through song, while encouraging listeners to take action for the environment. The ensemble shares a new video for their song "Moth," which is featured on the recently released 'Let The Light In' album (12.10). Filmed by Simon Whitehead during the recording of 'Let The Light In' at Real World Studios in the UK, the "Moth" video showcases the gorgeous artwork of Jackie Morris layered over intimate scenes of moths in their natural habitat, inspiring admiration for creatures that are often overlooked. "We grew up with Elephant Hawkmoths in our back garden, and I remember the 'oobits' (Scots for caterpillar) cocooning themselves in our porch one year before emerging mossy green, raspberry pink and beautiful," says Spell Songs singer Karine Polwart. "Truth be told, they intrigued and terrified me in equal measure as a wee girl. I harbor to this day a near-panic response to moths and butterflies in confined spaces, but we need to learn to love and value the creatures we fear and disregard, as much as all the rest, and to notice their absence too. So, let's call this a moth mantra for banishing fear and conjuring delight." Spell Songs is a group of renowned musicians hand-picked by best-selling author Robert Macfarlane and award-winning artist Jackie Morris. The music they create is inspired by Macfarlane and Morris' books 'The Lost Words' and 'The Lost Spells' which were written as a response to nature words being removed from the english dictionary. Spell Songs released its 'Let The Light In' album on December 10th. Since then, the album reached No. 1 on Amazon's Modern Folk Best Sellers chart, No. 4 on the Folk & Songwriter Best Sellers chart, and earned a 5/5 star review from The Guardian as well as praise from Folk Alley, No Depression and others. Interview with Zeal & Ardor

We had the pleasure of interviewing Zeal & Ardor over Zoom video! Zeal & Ardor's widely praised second album, Stranger Fruit, was released by MVKA in 2018, following the global attention-getting, multi-million streamed debut Devil Is Fine. Critically acclaimed across the industry, The Guardian newspaper described Stranger Fruit as "extraordinary and brilliant" upon release. Upset wrote it was "a compelling listen," Metal Hammer applauded its "sheer musical brilliance," with Rock Sound concluding, it was "one of the most uniquely daring and wholly affecting albums of 2018 so far," plus further plaudits rolling in from SiriusXM, Rolling Stone, Kerrang!, Noisey, Alternative Press, Revolver, Pitchfork, Stereogum, and more. By Christmas 2018, the UK's largest free newspaper Metro declared Stranger Fruit their #2 Album of the Year in a cross-genre list, declaring "in this jaw-dropping meld of black American folk music and black metal, the Swiss artist Manuel Gagneux has hit upon something genuinely original." In March 2019, following a blistering set in London the previous December, the band went on to release the double live album Live In London. Then, in October 2020, amidst a provocative and stimulating 18-month profound period of reflection — that led to the writing of the forthcoming self-titled album — the band quietly shared the striking, standalone 6-track EP Wake Of A Nation. Their intense third album, crystalizing everything the band is, will be released in February 2022. We want to hear from you! Interview with Palace

We had the pleasure of interviewing Palace over Zoom video! Palace share their profound and pensive new album Shoals, out today on Avenue A / Fiction. Shoals is the UK band's love letter to fear and the fullness of life one experiences when facing it down. Unsurprisingly, the sea was a major inspiration, as the record posits the ocean's violent yet beautiful energy as the ebb and flow between sheer panic and euphoric relief. As frontman Leo Wyndham explains: "'Shoals' is a record about confronting our own fears and anxieties. Through the pandemic we were confronted more than ever with ourselves with little distraction, suddenly seeing who we are in the rawest of forms. It held a mirror up to our flaws and imperfections and forced us to see the real 'us'. The record symbolizes how our minds can have beautiful yet dangerous depths, like the ocean, and how our fears and thoughts are like shoals of fish that move and shift constantly from place to place; chaotic, often untameable and unpredictable." 'Shoals' is comprised of 12 tracks, and in addition to 'Friends Forever' the album will include the singles, 'Shame On You', 'Where Sky Becomes Sea', 'Fade', 'Lover (Don't Let Me Down)' and 'Gravity'. The album's release will kick off Palace's biggest tour yet, with sold-out dates across the UK, Europe, and the US, including their biggest show to date at the O2 Brixton Academy and US tour dates at NYC's Webster Hall, DC's 9:30 Club, Austin's Empire Garage, and The Fonda in Los Angeles.
