Interview with Greensky Bluegrass

We had the pleasure of interviewing Greensky Bluegrass over Zoom video! Greensky Bluegrass are thrilled to announce their return to Colorado for four unforgettable performances. The band will kick things off with An Evening With Greensky Bluegrass Sept 14 and 15 at the Dillon Amphiteater. Then, the band will head down the mountain to Morrison for two more fun-filled evenings at Red Rocks Sepr 16 and 17. Special guests for Red Rocks TBA. For more information and all up to date news and tour info visit greenskybluegrass.com. Earlier this year, the band released their eighth studio album Stress Dreams via Thirty Tigers. Ahead of the release, Stress Dreams received high praise from critics. Garden & Gun calls the album "one of the most complete and engaging of the group's more than twenty-year career" and Glide says "Stress Dreams perfectly exemplifies, once again, why Greensky Bluegrass is heralded as one of the most important & influential bands of the modern progressive-bluegrass era." About Greensky Bluegrass: Since their 2000 formation in Kalamazoo, MI, the quartet—Anders Beck [dobro], Michael Arlen Bont [banjo], Dave Bruzza [guitar], Mike Devol [upright bass], and Paul Hoffman [mandolin]—have unassumingly progressed into a phenomenon on their own terms with the undying support of a devout audience. Rolling back and forth across North America on successive tours, they've sold out multiple dates at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Ryman Auditorium, the Fillmore Detroit, Riviera Theater Chicago, and many more. Beyond standout sets at Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and Austin City Limits, they co-own and have headlined 4848 Festival and Strings & Sol. In 2019, "All For Money" marked their second #1 debut on the Billboard Top Bluegrass Albums Chart and third straight Top 3 entry. They've also earned critical acclaim from Billboard, Parade, NPR, and Rolling Stone who hailed them as "representing the genre for a whole new generation." For the past century, bluegrass music has traditionally relayed real tales of American life, struggle, tragedy, and triumph. It gives a voice to the quiet, yet colorful stories woven into the fabric of the country itself. Greensky Bluegrass live these stories through their records and performances. When touring ceased in 2020 in the face of the global pandemic, the band hunkered down and compiled demos individually at first, sharing emails and voice notes. In July 2020, they got together for the first time in four months, dedicating rehearsals to the development of the new material. Once circumstances safely permitted, they recorded what would become Stress Dreams during a session in Guilford, VT and two sessions in Asheville, NC with frequent collaborator "and old friend" Dominic John Davis as producer and "wizard engineer" Glenn Brown mixing. They preserved the hallmarks of their sound while widening its expanse. "Greensky is and always has been very unique in our world," says Paul Hoffman. "We put our love, energy, and focus into what we appreciate about our music. We come together as a band in a way that's organic. We take a lot of pride in how we grow and challenge each other too. We're maturing together. I think we get more Greensky all of the time." We want to hear from you! Interview with Gus Englehorn

We had the pleasure of interviewing Gus Englehorn over Zoom video! Montreal singer-songwriter Gus Englehorn announces his sophomore album Dungeon Master, the cutest, heaviest, strangest rock'n'roll record you will hear this year. Set for release on April 29 via Secret City Records, the news is accompanied with a new single + video directed by Englehorn and Estée Preda; the stomping, paranoid "Tarantula." Englehorn says, "This song is about uninvited recurring irrational thoughts and fears. I decided to make a little fable where a tarantula is whispering bad things into your ear. Most of the time I have to use a lot of words to get my point across, so I was particularly pleased with this one because there's only 15 words in it." The release follows previous lead single "The Gate," a delirious, headbanging allegory about facing your own mortality. In March, Englehorn will also feature as an official artist at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Dungeon Master, Englehorn's Secret City Records debut, is an outsider opus that sparkles with Dada spirit — a playful juxtaposition of isolation, alienation and mildish OCD. Surprising, paranoid, and studded with synths and strings, Dungeon Master is deeper than a cellar and blunter than a club — a shivering introduction to an artist who's finally arrived. "I let my subconscious do the driving," Gus admits, and as you listen to these 10 tunes, it's difficult not to do the same: to sit back like a dog with a two-legged daydream; like a fisherwoman with her net; like a snowboarder with a mouth full of powder. Before he made the record in a cabin in the woods, he lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he fell in love at first sight with a woman from Québec, a girl named Estée Preda, who plays drums like Moe Tucker on salvia. In those days, Gus was a professional snowboarder — crisscrossing the world as a weird and world-class talent, kick-flipping through videos, shredding the gnar, posing in corporate-sponsored sunglasses. Before that he lived in Hawaii — on a lava field off-grid, with his folks. And before that in Alaska — in a hamlet called Ninilchik, where his parents fished for salmon and he and his brothers ate moose and pizza, played Nintendo, and also pretended to be wizards. For almost all of Gus's life — from Big Island's sunsets to snowy Utah pistes — he dreamed of being a songwriter. If he couldn't be Dylan, maybe he'd be Daniel Johnston, or Frank Black and The Pixies, or maybe Darby Crash and The Germs. And when he finally emerged — first on 2020's Death & Transfiguration and now here on the 34-year-old's label debut — he had found a sound that was dark and delightful, fun and demented, packed with dynamics and the chug of a hysterical guitar. We had the pleasure of interviewing Dustin Collins over Zoom video! Momentum continues to build for Billboard No. 1 singer-songwriter and Georgia-born Dustin Collins, who recently announced his forthcoming Working Man album, as he signs with New Vision Artist Management's Mike Kraski and New Revolution Entertainment's Jeff Solima. Kraski began his career in sales and distribution at CBS Records and eventually made his way to Sony Music Nashville, where he worked with Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Montgomery Gentry among many others, and was eventually elevated to executive VP and general manager for the Nashville division. In 2003, Kraski left Sony and launched an artist friendly label that was aptly named Equity Records. As President and CEO, he launched the career of Little Big Town. Since 2007, Kraski has worked in artist management, consulting and music publishing at Tenacity Management and at M-Pact Music Group and recently partnered with legendary artist manager John Dorris to launch New Vision Artist Management. Solima, whose career started at Music Matters, who managed Tracy Lawrence (16 of 17 singles were all No. 1) and Clay Walker (debut single No. 1), opened the multi-award-winning Hitsquad Promotions in 1993. In 2006, he co-founded New Revolution with partner Rob Dalton, and in 2008, he co-founded Bigger Picture Promotions with partner Michael Powers. Bigger Picture became the No. 5 record label in 18 months, setting the No. 1 record at the time of 9 consecutive No. 1 singles, and launched Craig Campbell, Chris Janson, and relaunched Chris Cagle, Uncle Kracker's "Smile," and Kid Rock. New Revolution clients have included Tim McGraw, Brantley Gilbert, Martina McBride, Lee Brice, Gloriana, Uncle Kracker, Jesse James Decker, among others, while delivering Emerson Drive's only No. 1 with "Moments" and relaunching Big & Rich with four consecutive Top 15 singles. Produced by industry veterans Buddy Cannon (Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson, Reba McEntire) and Bill McDermott (Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Brad Paisley), Working Man is slated for release this summer from DCDL Entertainment. A portion of proceeds from the lead single and album will benefit GUMI (Glad You Made It) Camp USA. GUMI focuses on providing U.S. veterans with the tools they need to help them heal after deployment overseas and enable them to re-enter society. Working Man follows Collins' latest album, It's Been Awhile, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers South Central Albums chart. His independent single "Cold Dead Hands" ascended to No. 1 on the Billboard Singles Sales chart. Interview with Bob Moses

We had the pleasure of interviewing Bob Moses over Zoom video! GRAMMY® Award-winning duo Bob Moses recently released their highly anticipated new albu, The Silence in Between, via the Los Angeles-based band's third full-length, released via Domino Recording Company/Astralwerks. In celebration of The Silence in Between's arrival, Bob Moses have shared a new single and video called "Hanging On," a heavy-hearted but wildly life-affirming anthem. The follow-up to Bob Moses' JUNO Award-nominated 2020 project Desire and their first full-length since 2018's Battle Lines (featuring the hit single "Back Down"), The Silence in Between fully captures what they refer to as the "ambient psychic unrest" of the current moment. With its moody collision of house music and emotionally potent pop, the album emerged from a period of immense upheaval in the lives of Vancouver-bred musicians/producers Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance. The fourth single released from The Silence in Between, "Hanging On" perfectly reflects the album's duality of darkness and light, abounding in luminous melodies and effervescent rhythms even as Bob Moses speak to a certain weariness at the world around them. Directed by Adrian Villagomez and Derek Branscombe and produced by Repertoire, the video for "Hanging On" centers on a full-band performance of the track, playing for an intimate audience blissfully lost in the music. As the starkly lit visual unfolds, the ground around the stage begins to crumble away. In a profoundly moving metaphor for carrying on in troubled times, the chaos ultimately brings everyone closer together as they fight to lift each other up. Prior to the release of The Silence in Between, Bob Moses shared three hypnotic singles from the album: "Time And Time Again" (a November single accompanied by a spellbinding video); "Love Brand New" (a January release that cracked the Top 15 on the Alternative radio chart), and "Never Ending" (a February track praised by the likes of Clash, who hailed it as "indicative of the pair's creative passions, blending ethereal electronics with the subtle use of club tropes"). Bob Moses' first full-length since signing to Astralwerks in a unique global partnership with Domino Recording Co., The Silence in Between is the latest body of work in a dynamic catalog that also includes their acclaimed debut album Days Gone By — a 2015 release featuring such standouts as "Tearing Me Up," a Top 15 US Alternative radio hit nominated for two GRAMMY® Awards, with a remix from RAC winning in the category of Best Remix Recording (Non-Classical). Interview with Lo Moon

We had the pleasure of interviewing Matt Lowell of Lo Moon over Zoom video! Known for delivering enticing and atmospheric soundscapes comprising ethereal guitar work, yearning lyrics, and resonant synths, Lo Moon are an alternative pop/rock outfit based in Los Angeles, California. Made up of frontman Matt Lowell (guitar/vocals), Crisanta Baker (synth/bass/samples), Sam Stewart (guitar), and Sterling Laws (drums), the group first appeared on the scene in the latter half of 2016, although the project had been evolving for many years prior. Lo Moon's self-titled debut album appeared in 2018 and charted in the Top Five of Billboard's Heatseekers chart, and the band returned in 2022 with sophomore their full-length, A Modern Life. Around 2011, principal songwriter Lowell had begun planting the seeds of what would become the project's first single, "Loveless." The track went through many changes in terms of lyrics, sound, and length. During this time, Lowell relocated from his native New York to Los Angeles, where he encountered Baker and Stewart, and Lo Moon became a collaborative effort. With Baker and Stewart's talents and input, "Loveless" wound up being a seven-minute epic that sprawling and transcended light and dark, both lyrically and aurally. After putting out the song online, it began to garner widespread attention and praise from the likes of Beats 1 Music and frontman Dougy Mandagi. Many also began to draw comparisons to fellow atmospheric acts with weighted songwriting under their belt -- from and to the and. However, the band decided to hold back in delivering further material and let "Loveless" stand as the sole representation of their sound for quite some time. During this "hibernation period," the track's demo was eventually passed on to producer, and former guitarist. Impressed with the layered sound palette and the band's approach to the writing process, went on to help produce their debut album after they signed with. The activity was also rife outside of the studio, with the ensemble going on to open for, Muna, and, both in the U.S. and overseas. Lo Moon's eponymous debut full-length arrived in February 2018. The band's second single, "This Is It," charted in the Top Ten of Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs chart, and the album peaked at number four in the Heatseekers chart. Non-album single "For Me, It's You" appeared in 2018, and touring drummer Sterling Laws became a full-time bandmember later in the year. The band returned in 2021 with the single "Dream Never Dies," which made the Top 40 of the AAA chart. Lo Moon's second album, A Modern Life, appeared on in 2022. The band described the album as being about survival, and the struggle to find an identity. We want to hear from you! Interview with Don Lifted

We had the pleasure of interviewing Don Lifted over Zoom video! Memphis-based genre-defying multihyphenate Don Lifted unveils latest single and music video "The Rope" via Fat Possum Records. Of the release, Don Lifted shared, "The Rope represents planting a flag for me. It's written from a sense of sureness in the fact of my reality and my abilities. I view it as a rare moment of hyperconfidence and aggression while recording my album 325i. The record highlights my fortitude as an artist, and as a person who has drastically innovated and greatly contributed to the environment that I came up in." Working in tandem as brothers, "The Rope" was directed by Martin Matthews and edited by Don Lifted (aka Lawrence Matthews). The accompanying visual perfectly complements the single's eerie nature and ethereal vulnerability. Viewers join Don Lifted on a dark journey, as he attempts to navigate his path to success amid outside forces trying to bring him down. The single follows on the heels of his album 325i released in October 2021. Recorded in 2020, the album encapsulates reckoning with movement versus stagnancy, questioning of direction, and embrace of detours. Through hauntingly atmospheric R&B beats, stinging guitar, and dexterous flow, Don Lifted bridges indie and hip-hop creating an unprecedented sound. The multi-disciplinary maverick is also set to take stage at SXSW this Thursday, March 17th. The show will take place at SXSW's Hotel Vegas stage at 7:50pm ET. Other appearances include the SXSW Aces High x Minor Figures on March 18th, The Treefort Music Fest on March 26th, and Schubas on April 16th. We want to hear from you! Interview with Sheryl Sheinafia

We had the pleasure of interviewing Sheryl Sheinafia over Zoom video! Indonesian artist, Sheryl Sheinafia, recently dropped her new song "Earn It". "Earn It" is an ode to second chances. Insecurity and uncertainty become the main themes for "Earn It," as those qualities are the greatest travesty any love has to face. Sheryl says "The song is my attempt to build a pillar of trust, and understanding— a call for me and my partner to restore our frequencies that have gone adrift." This is the video for "Earn It": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icI9amMWSIY With millions of streams and followers; Sheryl is definitely a force of her own in Indonesia, having built a huge fan base throughout the years. She released her debut album in 2013, which charted in Indonesia and led to booking big hosting and acting roles. In 2017 she released another album, and after having a lot of her songs top the charts; Sheryl realized the momentum she had and decided that this was the right time to take a leap of faith. Releasing songs written in English is an uncommon phenomenon in the Indonesian music scene– yet her single 'Sweet Talk', a full song in English, became her most known project to date. Now she's been releasing English music ever since. "When I first started, I found that my music has always succumbed to the confines of what is expected in Indonesian pop. As of now, I feel that my music is disarming the norms and otherwise old school expectations. It's evolved in a way where I am capable of cultivating and fostering my own sound— one that listens to none and is a true reflection of how I want people to perceive my sound." -Sheryl We want to hear from you! Interview with Brad Barr

We had the pleasure of interviewing Brad Barr over Zoom video! Brad Barr - the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter of The Barr Brothers and The Slip - recetly released The Winter Mission, Barr's brand new instrumental solo guitar album through Secret City Records. For more than 20 years, Brad Barr has been counting the number 216. It's a mysterious number that seems to show up everywhere—from clocks and license plates to Ouija boards and receipts—and now it's also sewn the fabric of his new album, like the 216 stitches on a baseball. Inspired by artists like Caetano Veloso, Mississippi Fred McDowell, D'Gary, and John Frusciante, Barr set out to make music that was naked and unprocessed, but also occasionally loud—alive with a sense of wakeful intimacy. The number 216 was a constant theme. The guitarist first encountered the so-called "magic square" during a teenage acid trip; in the years since then it's become a talisman—one of the few areas where Barr feels mystical, sensing a genuine order in the universe. These songs pay tribute to that order—from 216's lofty mathematical and astrological properties to its function as an area-code (for Cleveland). Barr spent decades developing his visceral approach to the guitar, first with The Slip and then across three records with The Barr Brothers. The Winter Mission—the follow-up to The Fall Apartment, Barr's 2008 solo debut—had its origins in a commission from Michael Wolk, Artistic Director at New York City's All For One Theater. It "felt like a gift," Barr recalls—to have a sound he could explore all by himself, away from the road, during COVID's strange intermission. Brad Barr is the lead singer and songwriter of The Barr Brothers, a folk-Americana band that's been around for over a decade. They have toured with The War on Drugs, Calexico, Shakey Graves, and Patrick Watson. Their TV performances include The Late Show with David Letterman and CBS This Morning Saturday.
