Interview with corook

We had the pleasure of interviewing corook over Zoom video! corook [pronounced 'co-rook'] has blessed us all with her debut achoo! EP, is available today at all DSPs and streaming services. Comprised of seven surprising, humorous, and insightful tracks such as recently released singles, "idk god," "degree," "bad friend," and "sims," achoo! arrives with three new songs including "snakes," which corook added to the EP following a series of well-received teases across social media and live performances on tour. Creating an undeniably genre-busting sound all her own, corook tackles deeply personal themes in her music and visuals through a unique, quirky and humorous lens. The Nashville-based artist's unforgettable debut single, "sims" sees the Nashville-based musician creating a genre-busting sound all her own, fusing 64-bit bleeps and bloops with a head-nodding beat, glitchy guitar, and clever lyrics in both English and Simlish. Co-written with Caroline Pennell (Demi Lovato, Hailee Steinfeld, Selena Gomez) and Lauren Aquilina (Demi Lovato, Olivia O'Brien, Ava Max) and self-produced by corook, "sims" is joined by a hilarious music video in which corook becomes an actual Sim. "sims" was followed the introspective "bad friend," complemented by an official music video –featuring corook singing directly to her "former friends," played by her actual real-life besties. A comedic take on today's college experience, hysterically narrated through an incredibly awkward job interview and conversation with her father, "degree" is joined by an official music video in which corook hilariously stars in all three roles. The timely "idk god arrived next, revealing a spiritually searching side to corook's powerful songcraft. corook – who only just wrapped her first-ever North American live run traveling as special guest on K.Flay's sold out "Inside Voices Outside Voices Tour," followed by an exhilarating performance at LA's School Night – will return to the road this summer as she joins JP Saxe on tour, beginning June 3rd in Indianapolis before making her festival debut performance at Bonnaroo on June 19th. Interview with Electric Enemy

We had the pleasure of interviewing Electric Enemy over Zoom video! Buzzing out of the London, England rock scene, Electric Enemy have shared their new single "Sweet Tooth" out today via Circular Wave. The single immediately draws in the listener with a blistering guitar line and singer Jim Lawson's distinctive voice before heading into a dreamy, melodic break and then picking right back up again. Centered around love, and lust, at first sight, the lyrics dive into the rush of being completely captivated by another person. "Sweet Tooth" was recorded at Fish Factory Studios with the band's long-time collaborator, friend and producer Sam Miller (Alberta Cross, Razorlight), working together to create a sound that is vintage and modern at the same time. The video for the track takes on this same feel, winding through a whirlwind of color, polaroids, and performance shots that match the energy of the song. Sitting somewhere between the classic rock of the Foo Fighters and newer acts like Des Rocs and Royal Blood, Electric Enemy are setting out to make rock music with a mission that truly feels "electric". Combining introspective lyrics with compelling melodies and dynamic musicianship, the band has cracked a formula that has made them a need to know act in the UK and beyond. Singles "Voices" (2021) and "Heartache Melody" (2022) have already given the band a taste of streaming success and BBC Radio 1 host Jack Saunders noted "There's something in the water here." "Sweet Tooth" marks the fourth single from a series of releases that will combine to form an EP set for release this Spring and the band is already hard at work on their first full-length. Electric Enemy is James "Jim" Lawton (vocals and guitar), Orlando Formaro (lead guitar), and Thomas "Tom" Romer-Smith (drums). We want to hear from you! Interview with Liily

We had the pleasure of interviewing Liily over Zoom video! Liily are four Los Angeles musicians — Dylan Nash, Sam De La Torre, Charlie Anastasis & Maxx Morando — who, up until now, were mostly known for their manic and cacophonous live shows. Those performances, alongside a couple of early singles packaged together into an EP entitled I Can Fool Anybody In This Town, drove the band to some surprising early successes: performing at Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo, touring across Europe and the United States, then finding themselves on the cover of Spotify and Apple Music's major rock playlists. But then, as quickly as they appeared, they seemed to vanish. Almost two years later, and now all of 22 years old, the band return with their debut album, TV or Not TV. It is a highly aggressive record, even more so than their early work. But here, they jump from moment to moment and genre to genre, creating an experimental and original set of songs, all more strange and abrasive, but also far more three dimensional than anything they've ever done before. It still contains the unbridled energy of those early shows and singles, but feels stripped of anything passive or unintentional. Ultimately, the album is about what arises when you come from Los Angeles but want to illustrate a different vantage point than what the city seems to represent to the world at large. The result is a twelve track record that really does feel singular and strange. It's very aggressive without it feeling like just a punk band. It's a bashing, free wheeling sound that's then very buttoned up-maybe self serious at points so it feels like kind of art school but not done by art school kids. The idea being that it makes sense by listening to it. It makes sense without a definition. We want to hear from you! Interview with Haley Smalls

We had the pleasure of interviewing Haley Smalls over Zoom video! Toronto based singer-songwriter Haley Smalls recently release her latest single "Do Better . This single release follows a string of consistent singles over the last year from Haley, including Run-DMC influence track "Bass" that premiered with Hip-HopVibe & Rolling Out, as well as Summer 2021 buzz track "I Do.". Haley's single "Do Better" is the build up to her currently untitled 5th project set for release in 2022. Lyrically, the core of the project centers around love: love of self, love of others, and the love of success and the money it brings. While the style of the project is rooted in R&B/Hip Hop don't be surprised to hear a country or rock influence come through as Haley works to make her sound uniquely diverse creating something that can be received by all, no matter their background or their age. Now, after inking a deal with industry veterans Jimmy Maynes & JoJo Brim at V Nation, along with her long-time management team from Ludacris' Ebony Son Mgt and music producers Poke and Tone from Trackmasters, Haley Smalls finally has the right team in place to release her next project in 2022. Haley started her musical journey at a young age when her parents recognized her unique talents and signed her up for singing lessons. Haley started booking studio time at age twelve, writing songs and working with producers in the U.S. and the UK. After years of grinding, it all came to fruition when she met her producer in 2013, the Grammy nominated multi-Platinum Megaman. Her 2015 debut This Is Me was a culmination of Haley coming into her own and shaping her identity. Following This Is Me Haley released a series of noteworthy projects, including 2017's Heart of Gold, 2018's The Cure II, and 2019's Summer Nights. She continued her momentum through 2020, releasing a series of tracks well into 2021. This next phase for Haley Smalls is unstoppable now that she finally has the right team around her, following her recent signing to V Nation. Sas well as updates on her upcoming project due out later this year. We want to hear from you! Interview with Wallis Bird

We had the pleasure of interviewing Wallis Bird over Zoom video! Irish-born, Wallis Bird is thrilled to share "The Power of a Word" the newest song to be released off her forthcoming album HANDS, due out May 27 via Mount Silver Records / Soundly Music. "Power of the Word" follows the release of "What's Wrong with Changing" and "Pretty Lies." Wallis tapped the famed Theodora Byrne Ensemble to create an incredibly powerful music video for her song "What's Wrong With Changing. The Theodora Byrne Ensemble is an Irish contemporary mixed-voice choir comprised of a collective of over 50 singers from various musical backgrounds HANDS finds BIRD turning the spotlight onto herself, raising issues that are sometimes far harder to confront, only to emerge optimistic and whole. Among these are issues of trust, alcohol abuse, stagnation, self-censorship, and self-improvement, some addressed through personal recollections of crucial moments accumulated over the last two years. Each, however, is delivered by a voice uncommonly blessed with joy, ingenuity, and empathy. The front cover of the new album features a black and white photograph of a hand. A cursory look might not reveal anything unusual, but it only takes a moment to recognize it's no ordinary hand. In the shadows, there's a stump where the little finger should be, and something seems off about the other digits too. Some will understand its significance: they'll have seen it strumming an upside-down, right-handed guitar, picking in unorthodox style, forming unconventional chords. The hand, you see, is WALLIS BIRD's, and it's there because, having spent much of her life trying to exist despite its restrictions, she's reached a point where she recognizes that, in many ways, it's always been vital to her lived reality. With this has come a realization of "who I am, what I am, and what I don't want." HANDS documents her subsequent process of change, and its consequences, with typically distinctive style, making it – hands down, naturally – one of the most honest albums you'll hear at a time when honesty is at a premium. Interview with Sophia Scott

We had the pleasure of interviewing Sophia Scott over Zoom video! Known for her soulful storytelling and powerhouse vocals, EMPIRE's SOPHIA SCOTT is blazing a permanent trail for herself in Nashville and beyond with her newest single "One Of These Days," available now. Painting a poignant visual from her parents' struggling marriage, Sophia illustrates how she defined her own perspectives on love, offering a candid glimpse into her own personal story and emphasizing the mantra: 'everything's meant to be.' Penned with Tiggs (Nathan Fertig) of Ross Golan's Unknown Music, "One Of These Days" is where vulnerability meets hope… "I wanna live like I'm dying, I want to laugh till I'm crying but my heart still breaks, I hope it falls into place, maybe one of these days," Scott sings. "This is the most personal and arguably most important song I've put out so far. It tells the story of my parents' divorce, then my own first love and heartbreak, and finally dives into me trying to figure out my career, bills, and life as an adult. Hoping that there is resolve at some point and that all the hard things that have happened along the way start to make sense 'one of these days,'" says Scott. "'One of these days' becomes a mantra for my whole life essentially. After all, life is about the journey and the lessons learned along that journey." Bringing poise, gusto and grit to her own unique genre, Sophia's musicality is dynamic and exciting. Her boundary-defying creative range flows seamlessly through the country, pop, rock, and R&B sounds that she grew up on. She writes from the heart and shoots from the hip, unafraid to explore the depths of her emotionally-charged experiences. Instead of retreating, she confronts heartbreak head-on and turns trauma into triumph with her lyrics. Following a childhood immersed in music, she spent six years in Los Angeles, playing locally renowned showcases (We Found New Music, Breaking Sound) and headlining her own residencies, before planting her roots in Nashville. A viral YouTube cover of Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" helped set the stage for Scott's buzzworthy originals, such as the "Closure" and "Quit, which cracked 1 million Spotify streams and earned high praise from Atwood Magazine, who raved, "Having grown up on classic rock, R&B, and country/soul. Scott takes care in crafting both the sound and meaning of her songs – never shirking one for another." Her latest singles "Sweetheart" and "Side Effects" offer an exciting preview of her much anticipated project, expected in 2022. We want to hear from you! Interview with ERRA

We had the pleasure of interviewing ERRA over Zoom video! Prolific metalcore progressives ERRA have dropped the deluxe version of their latest album S/T, viia UNFD. The expanded edition of S/T is beefed up with seven additional tracks, including a feature from Spiritbox's Courtney LaPlante, along with three covers. The material on the deluxe has been praised by Loudwire, Rock Sound, Knotfest, Riff, and more. With touring off the table for most of 2021, the band found other means of creative outlet, and opted to re-enter the studio with producers Carson and Grant around the time of the release of what would go on to become their career-defining self titled album. On that album, the band confronted depression, anxiety, and desperation throughout. They took listeners on a near-out-of-body journey to Aokigahara, the infamous Suicide Forest of Japan; into episodic storytelling that would make Black Mirror writers proud; and into the literary works of Cormac McCarthy and Hubert Selby Jr. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland, it served as a definitive mission statement for the band, the members of which are already well-respected players revered for their inspiring technicality and raw, natural talent. The deluxe edition builds upon that foundation. ERRA have also released a new mini-documentary. The footage was filmed in January 2021 when the band was recording the new songs and offers a deeper insight into their process and the artistic choices they made regarding the additional material and cover songs on the deluxe edition.
