Interview with Kublai Khan TX

We had the pleasure of interviewing Kublai Khan TX over Zoom! Hardcore's brainiest brawlers Kublai Khan TX released their new EP, Lowest Form of Animal, via Rise Records. The Sherman, TX quartet—Matt [vocals], Nolan Ashley [guitar, vocals], Eric English [bass], and Isaac Lamb [drums]—quietly emerged as a fiery force since their 2008 formation straight out of high school. They built a devout following through airtight consistency on Balancing Survival and Happiness [2014], New Strength [2015], and Nomad [2017]. The latter impressively tallied over 6 million cumulative streams with "The Hammer" surpassing 2.6 million on Spotify and "Antpile" exceeding 1.1 million. Meanwhile, acclaim came from Metal Hammer, Alternative Press, New Noise, and more as the boys toured relentlessly. We want to hear from you! Interview with Dopapod

We had the pleasure of interviewing Dopapod over Zoom video! Dopapod access a heightened level of cosmic harmony in their music. The quartet—Eli Winderman [keys, vocals], Rob Compa [guitar, vocals], Chuck Jones [bass], and Neal "Fro" Evans [drums]—present albums as experiences meant to be shared out of your speakers and on stage. After generating millions of streams, packing shows coast-to-coast, and earning acclaim from Rolling Stone, Guitar World, Glide Magazine, and more, the group architect an immersive and expansive vision on their self-titled seventh full-length offering, Dopapod. The group's hypnotic hybrid of funk, rock, jazz, bluegrass, and electronica bloomed brilliantly on 2009's Radar, and it continued to blossom on the likes of Never Odd Or Even [2014] and Megagem [2017]. Along the way, fan favorites such as "Present Ghosts" reeled in 2.4 million Spotify streams and counting. 2019's Emit Time arrived to acclaim from Guitar World, Relix, Glide, Jambase, and more. Simultaneously, they sold out headline gigs and graced the bills of Electric Forest, Summer Camp, High Sierra, and Bonaroo where Rolling Stone named them among the festival's "best kept secrets." After a marathon near-decade run, they enjoyed an almost year-long hiatus to realign and reenergize before reuniting with a new fire during 2019 and partaking in something of a "soft return." After a brief hiatus to regroup and recharge their creative efforts, Dopapod assembled what would become their next album, the self-titled Dopapod, and looked at the loose threads of their catalog to conceptually tie their journey together. They chose to self-title their seventh offering as a totem to the fact they've realized their full potential in terms of music and vision. Tackling time travel, balance and symmetry, binary pairs and more, Dopapod's palindromic existence continues to conjure alchemy nearly fifteen years into their journey. We want to hear from you! Interview with Chrystabell

We had the pleasure of interviewing Chrystabell over Zoom video! exas-based, avant-garde pop artist Chrystabell shares the "Silent Scream" music video and her new album Midnight Star via Love Conquered Records. The eerie, vintage-style black and white video was written/directed by Polish filmmaker and longtime collaborator Archon. A sci-fi fantasia assembled as a collection of episodes, Midnight Star tells the story of a beneficent being seeking to save humanity from life on a troubled Earth. Chrystabell fully transports listeners into a dimension of her own making with a collision of post-disco, synth-pop and space-age psychedelia, while her unearthly storytelling offers up tender instruction for living more ecstatically. She has released three previous tracks – the enchanting title track "Midnight Star," the revelatory "Suicide Moonbeams" and the brightly kinetic "Breathe Into Euphoria," Chrystabell is a hyper-creative polymath, whose past endeavors include four acclaimed albums, sold out performances around the world, a series of musical projects with filmmaker/luminary David Lynch and a central role on Twin Peaks: The Return. Having launched her career in the late-'90s with the neo-swing band 8 1/2 Souvenirs, she first joined forces with Lynch for a song featured in his 2006 film Inland Empire, and later worked with him on her 2011 album This Train and the 2016 EP Somewhere in the Nowhere. Over the past few years, she's undergone a full-tilt liberation of her creative spirit that finds her embracing a more potent sense of freedom. We want to hear from you! Interview with Susie Suh

We had the pleasure of interviewing Susie Suh over Zoom video! Indie/electronic artist out of LA named Susie Suh, recently release a new video for, "Invisible Love", which is her new album's title track. A traveler and a seeker, her album chronicles her journey over the past few years studying meditation and alternative modes of healing at various sacred sites around the world, and the video for "Invisible Love" was inspired by a moment of spiritual awakening. Her experiences resulted in an interest in ritual sound healing using crystal bowls, which is featured throughout her album and during Susie's live performance. Following her self-titled debut on Sony Music/Epic Records, Susie independently released 'The Bakman Tapes,' which saw her signature style crystallize. The single "I Do" eclipsed 51.4 million Spotify streams as "Feather In The Wind" generated 4.1 million Spotify streams. Her music was also featured in numerous TV shows and films around the world, all as a result of her own pitching as an independent artist. Along the way, she assembled what would become her new album, 'Invisible Love.' Rather than create the album solo, she collaborated with an eclectic mix of producers, including Mitchell Froom [Elvis Costello, Rufus Wainright], Scott Campbell [Stevie Nicks, Annie Lennox]. "This album chronicles an inner journey that I've been on, a pilgrimage of sorts," she explains. "With all of the noise in the world, this album was about going inward and finding healing from within." We want to hear from you! Interview with Cy Dune

We had the pleasure of interviewing Cy Dune over Zoom video! Cy Dune is the explosive, post genre positive punk project of artist/producer Seth Olinsky, the co-founder of legendary underground noise folk experimentalists Akron/Family. Sparked by a turn towards the primal, transcendent energy of rock music and informed by his lifelong love of early blues music, Seth has explored Blues, 50's rock n roll, and 60s/70s proto punk through this unique lens via his Cy Dune project. He recently dropped the latest album from his Cy Dune project, Against Face – a metapunk blast through 20th century art school punk forms mashed together into one hyperreal, hypermodern 18-minute tour de force, due out March 3rd via Lightning Studios. Along with the album announcement, Cy Dune shares the album's title track which features a drummer exhausting, relentlessly flat floor tom pattern, a spazz jazz guitar solo and, lyrically, "a sort of ranty, self aware sincerest jab at the modern cultural techno rat race problem we humans all have, with a little nod to 'No Fun' from The Stooges." Olinsky adds, "But ultimately, as with much of Cy Dune songs, the new track represents fun with music's societal forms more than a hardline ideological perspective, and fits mostly in line with the truly committed aspect of the Cy Dune music again and again to Energy Music and its positive impact on humanity" The album release follows the fun, no wave single "Don't Waste My Time," released in late-2021. The track was Cy Dune's first new music since 2019's album Desert. Seth's projects have always had a post genre approach to music making. Collaging several genres simultaneously to create multi-meaning, and purposefully juxtaposing authentic and pure songwriting sincerity, with self-aware meta-meaning and pranksterism. Take for example Akron/Family's scope from folk balladry to post jazz improv to the BMBZ project, a pre-meme internet noise take down interpretation of the S/T II album. Nothing was ever as it seemed on any given, first seen surface with Akron/Family, and it took a deeper investigation to find out about the whole story and how all the pieces fit together.
