Interview with Jon Coco

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jon Coco over Zoom video! Music that leaves a lasting impression requires a wandering soul to tame it. That's an apt description of the moments film composer JON COCO elicits with his melodic and lyrical craftsmanship. Enduring hopefulness tempered by the unavoidable obstacles that life brings is at the core of Coco's emotive perspective. His songs remind us that heartache and love are not to be mastered, but to be lived in and learned through. Perhaps Coco's music resonates with those of so many walks of life because his own path has taken so many turns. As a boy growing up in Boston, Coco immersed himself in the music of timeless bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Pink Floyd. Tapping into the music of the '70s with an impressive vinyl record collection, he started writing original music and dove into performances in the late '80s Boston music scene. Invited by an A&M recording studio head engineer to record songs for A&M, Coco gave in to the eventual lure of Los Angeles and the larger opportunities it promised. An early lesson would come when A&M Records closed their doors while his band was still recording their debut record. After two years as a staple on the Hollywood live club scene, Coco seized the opportunity to try his hand at creating music for a film trailer. This pivot provided many years of work and included his compositions in the marketing campaigns for Oscar-nominated and award-winning films such as The Departed, Batman Begins, No Country for Old Men, Room, and numerous others. Endlessly pursuing his own true north and identity, Coco relocated to Nashville in 2016 to trade the companionship of traffic and airplanes for a mini ranch with horses, donkeys, and chickens. This slower and more relaxed pace, exacerbated by the Covid lockdown, has cultivated an even more intense maturation of Coco's signature style. "I came across a video of an Elliot Smith performance at Largo in Hollywood as a guest of Jon Brion's show. It inspired me so much that two hours later I had 'Living In LA' written and completed! The floodgates were open. The next day, 'Boxley Valley,' which is a song about my home in Tennessee, came out of me just as quickly. Five days later, I had five songs done." There is a common element to his music that is as relatable for listeners of a major metropolitan area as for those in rural surroundings because their source is a man who finds the essential humanity in both. Those with an affinity for Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, and the Eagles rebuke a "regional" definition to their taste and relate to Jon Coco's music similarly. In an America that seems so often divided, his music is a reminder to focus on the day-to-day of our own immediate experiences. Recorded with a group of talented friends hailing from Nashville and Los Angeles, Jon Coco is exhibiting with each song that music literally brings us all together. We want to hear from you! Interview with John Harvie

We had the pleasure of interviewing John Harvie over Zoom video! John Harvie releases an explosive new single "My Name (In Your Mouth)." "My Name (In Your Mouth)" is a thunderous, angsty offering from the 22-year-old singer/songwriter that mixes rebellion with punchy vocals and highlights his DGAF attitude. Harvie's edgy vocals and charming personality fittingly arrived at the forefront of the resurgence of a new era of rock music. Coupled with a clear vision of his artistry, Harvie's impending success proves to be just around the corner. Look out 2022… Louisville bred, Nashville based John Harvie intertwines hook-laden anthems and raunchy guitar riffs, continuing to make his mark in the Punk-Pop + Rock space. The recent 300 Entertainment / FRKST Records (Johnny Stevens of Highly Suspect's imprint label) signee, seemingly walked into a music career after his hilarious coughing-fit-cover of Fall Out Boy's "Sugar We're Goin' Down'' went viral overnight. However, what started as a joke between friends not only became the beginning of Harvie's TikTok career but sparked an unparalleled work ethic to make a longstanding dream reality. Growing up the son of a pastor, music was a constant in Harvie's life yet he knew it would take more than talent to make it a career. Dropping out of college, Harvie worked day jobs to support his music while he continued calling the frat house he'd been a part of his home. Harvie released "Bleach (On The Rocks)" in the middle of the pandemic and was met with acclaim from fellow musicians such as lil aaron who remixed the song mere weeks later. The track solidified Harvie's raw talent with the original created on his third co-write. Both tracks have a whopping ~8 million streams on Spotify alone. Next, Harvie unveiled a personal track that told the story of lust in the social media age, specifically Harvie's Tinder turned Snapchat relationship that fueled the melody and lyrics of "Alaina." With two singles under his belt, John Harvie is gearing up for brand new music and ready to make his mark on 2022. We want to hear from you! Interview with Mulherin

We had the pleasure of interviewing Mulherin over Zoom video! Based in LA but from Memphis Tennessee, the twins started their musical journey in high school playing snare drum in the marching band, where they learned music theory. It wasn't until college that they began to play the piano, guitar and hone their vocal and production abilities. They grew up listening to everything from the Beatles and the Beach Boys to Thom Yorke and Sufjan Stevens but grew to fall in love with R&B from the '90s and 2000s, from the likes of D'Angelo and Dwele. The result is a unique R&B and soft acoustic pop sound that's centered around melody, harmony, and lush vocal production. Along with continuing to expand their songwriting skills their creativity continues to grow with each project grabbing inspiration from different parts of their lives and showing us a new side of themselves with each release. With real and emotional lyrics delve into a vulnerability that few artists are comfortable in sharing with the world. "Better For You" is the second single off Mulherin's upcoming EP, 'Paper and Plastic 01' , that paints a heart-melting portrait of familial love and understanding in a mother-son relationship. Continuing their slower and more soulful releases, the EP is brought to a whole new level with acoustic instrumentals and a powerful message throughout all 4 singles, creating a mesmerizing and beautiful experience. "I set out to address something that we rarely talk about in our music. These kinds of feelings can be hard to express at times, so it just felt right to write it as if it were a letter to my mom. A promise that I can be better and feel better - and so can you. We all can." - Parker Mulherin on "Better For You" We want to hear from you! Interview with Lizzie & The Makers

We had the pleasure of interviewing Lizzie & The Makers over Zoom video! "It's almost like when we wrote these songs they went through a David Lynch portal, they came out a little bizarre," says frontwoman Lizzie Edwards on the creation of Lizzie & The Makers' sophomore album Dear Onda Wahl announced for release on November 5, 2021 [independently] and produced by acclaimed producers Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie, Tin Machine) and Mario J. McNulty (David Bowie, Prince). Infusing elements of art-rock, dream-pop, and a celestial atmosphere, Lizzie & The Makers has spawned something entirely their own. Ahead of this sophomore studio album announcement, Lizzie & The Makers had released two singles - the rootsy spellbinding ethereal tune "Mermaid" which American Songwriter called "an enchanting dip into bluesy synth-pop waters" and, more recently, the blues rock stomper "Lover By Proxy" which Glide Magazine highlights the "Led Zeppelin-esque bluesy guitar riff and Edwards' electrifyingly soulful vocals.""Queens" & more. Elsewhere on the upcoming album, there's the sultry bluesy reverberation of "Magic River" for which Edwards penned the melody for after a post-Whitesnake listening binge. There's a grimy, hard hitting rock track ("Bottle"), which Edwards says is about "being a woman in the rock/blues genre and in music and the word in general", a bouncy rock love-hate letter ("Les Idiots") to certain "characters" posing in her hometown, NYC's East Village, and a haunting and cathartic groovy, slow rock jam ("Waiting For The Teeth") about healing. The curiously named title track "Dear Onda Wahl" is a play on words that refers to a metaphorical letter she wrote to a mounted hunting trophy at the bar where she worked, i.e "Deer On The Wall", "Dear Onda Wall." A funky number that was written during a slow workday behind the bar, Edwards gazed at the mounted deer head asking it for love advice: "Deer on the wall, what's the point of it all?" The forlorn tune "Tell Her" is a contrasting musical companion of sorts to the more playful "Lover By Proxy" that highlights Edwards heartfelt, nuanced vocal tone, influenced by Memphis soul legend Ann Peebles, Heart's Wilson sisters, Alison Mosshart of The Kills and Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee. The haunting, seven-minute closing track "Mojo Hand" is soaked in McMullen's borderline sci-fi sonic sorcery and Edwards' enunciated occultic metaphors; producer Reeves Gabrels also contributed to the track, adding to the otherworldly vibe. Interview with Miles Francis

We had the pleasure of interviewing Miles Francis over Zoom video! New York City singer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist Miles Francis releases their transformative album Good Man, announcing a hometown New York show at Sultan Room on April 27. Sharing the final single & video for "Rainjacket" this week, Miles' experiences during the project helped them come out as non-binary, resulting in works of gorgeous paradox: nuanced explorations of masculinity and all its trappings, presented in a sound that's joyfully unfettered. Playing into the album's themes and storyline are previous singles "Popular" (feat. Lizzie Loveless & Lou Tides, formerly of TEEN), "Let Me Cry," "Nature" & "Service," complete with mesmerizing boy band clone choreography that mirrors Miles' own recording process in quarantine. "Everyone indulges in having an ego and wanting to be recognized, but men seem particularly bent on the power element — whether it's taking up space in a room or leading a country," says Francis. These were followed by remixes of "Popular" by Future Generations and "Service" from Overcoats, to love from KCRW, Earmilk, The Wild Honey Pie & beyond. Produced by Francis and recorded in their longtime studio (located in the basement of the Greenwich Village building they grew up in), Good Man arrives as the most visionary and elaborately realized output yet from a polymathic artist known for collaborating with the likes of Angélique Kidjo, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, and Arcade Fire's Will Butler. Interview with Warren Zeiders

We had the pleasure of interviewing Warren Zeiders over Zoom video! Rising country star Warren Zeiders launches a new road-ready single, "Dark Night," available now on all DSPs via Warner Records. The Pennsylvania-born singer-songwriter has been teasing the song in bits and pieces to his 1.7M followers on TikTok – where it's also organically reached millions outside of his follower count. The contemplative track follows the recent release of his fiery "Burn It Down" and arrives just over a month after "Ride the Lightning" earned him his first Gold record. On "Dark Night," Zeiders hits the road again, lyrically, over a propulsive beat and heavy strums of acoustic guitar. Driving fast down a shadowy highway, he comes to grips with the decisions he's made and wonders if redemption lies somewhere along that little white line. "Devil's on my shoulder, demons gettin' closer," Zeiders sings. "All I know is I gotta ride." To celebrate the release of "Dark Night," and his recent signing to Warner Records, Zeiders will head out on the road for a series of shows to bring his songs front and center to his ever-growing audience. His first show in State College, PA is already sold out, and the remaining dates are on sale as of this morning. About "Dark Night," Zeiders comments, "Dark Night is unique to me because I've seen how much people have connected and resonated to this song already, and have used it as an outlet to voice what they're dealing with in life. This song is about how we all may fall down, no matter what's going on in our lives. We all feel pain. We all feel darkness, which is ok – but it's how we get back up and continue to move forward - and that's what makes us who we are. It will be on the 717 Tapes EP – Volume 2 with a few more tunes that I can't wait to play for y'all out on the road! See y'all out there!" "Dark Night" and "Burn It Down" are both included on his next set of original songs called 717 Tapes EP Vol. II set for release on April 8th. The new EP follows last fall's 717 Tapes EP Vol. I, which contained his certified gold, runaway hit single "Ride The Lightning." With a weathered voice that belies his 22 years of age, Zeiders has garnered comparisons to classic country and rock artists twice his age, it's not unexpected that's he's inspired a massive international social media following, commanding more than 657 million global views on TikTok and over 224 million streams across platforms.
