Interview with Bella Dose
We had the pleasure of interviewing Bella Dose over Zoom video! Bella Dose, named one of People's "25 Emerging Musical Artists You Should Add to Your Playlist", recently released their next single "BITE!" 2021 proved to be a successful year for emerging LatinX talent, Bella Dose. The Latina girl group made quiet the introduction over the summer with the TikTok success of their song 'Si Me Llamas', which is about leaving that toxic ex "on read." Off their debut EP 'SUELTA', the dance friendly tracked garnered over 1 billion views across the app, with nearly 115,000 videos using the song. On the heels of the EP's success, the girls will once again pivot their versatile talents with their English hit, "BITE!,". BELLA DOSE is ready to take on the world with their charisma, versatility, chemistry, and passion for the art of music. Brianna, Jenni, Thais, and Melany gained much traction from their masterful covers of the most popular songs, especially their most viewed rendition of Nicky Jam and Ozuna's "Te Robaré". They have been working diligently and building their own original music repertoire of English and Spanish songs that they write themselves. Besides writing, all members sing, dance, and engineer their own sessions. Originating in Miami, Florida, the girls come from diverse Latin backgrounds with heritages from Cuba, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Chile, and they keep true to their roots through their catchy hooks and hypnotically danceable beats. With a growing fanbase of over 2.3 Million followers on TikTok and 299.5K followers on Instagram, BELLA DOSE has a promising future. Their unique position in the market, their versatility, style, work ethic, and true talent, have made the girls become a real threat and ones to watch in 2022 We want to hear from you! Interview with Budjerah
We had the pleasure of interviewing Budjerah over Zoom video! Ahead of his first international tour this month, Budjerah reveals the moody official video for his latest single "Get Down". The track is featured on his second EP Conversations, out now via Warner Records. On "Get Down," producer Matt Corby's sparkling, glitched-out synths give way to one of Conversations' most affecting songs, a sleek jam whose ebb-and-flow melody underscores lyrics about anxiously forging forward through one's youth. "'Get Down' is about the idea that I've come so far now, I have to keep going, it's too late to stop what I'm doing now," Budjerah says. "If there's a way, please show me how," he sings on the track, a spiritual plea amidst a song suffused with an ultramodern atmosphere. On the recently released Conversations EP, Budjerah reunites with longtime producers Matt Corby and Chris Collins, as well as new collaborators MAY-A and Konstantin Kersting. The EP - which features previously released singles "Talk" with MAY-A, "Wash My Sorrows Away" and "What Should I Do?" - reveals a darker, sleeker sound for Budjerah, reflective of the changes that have occurred in his life. In 2020, Australia was introduced to the spectacular voice of Budjerah: a new, homegrown R&B star. Possessing songwriting ingenuity and old-soul wisdom, it quickly became abundantly clear that, for a lot of us, Budjerah was the kind of figure we'd been missing. His acclaimed debut self-titled EP followed in 2021, he took home the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist ARIA award from five nominations; performed coveted support slots with Thelma Plum, The Avalanches and Lime Cordiale, collaborated with dance music superstars PNAU and completed his first headline tour. Most recently, Budjerah won Most Performed R&B / Soul Work for "Higher" and was nominated for Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year at the 2022 APRA Music Awards. We want to hear from you! Interview with St. Lucia
We had the pleasure of interviewing St. Lucia over Zoom video! Led by husband-and-wife duo South Africa-born Jean-Philip Grobler and Germany-born Patti Beranek, St. Lucia retreat from a fractured world on fire and into the glow of a rapturous synth-spiked electro-pop catharsis—like a dance party at the edge of existence. Now signed to Nettwerk Records, the group beams out a light of their own and shines brighter than ever. "In a way, this is my personal rebellion against the darkness of the world," states Jean-Philip. "It's easy to feel depressed these days, so I'm trying to bring something joyous to the world. I was sick of seeing shit on the Internet, and I just wanted to feel good. That's what being human is about. We have to feel alive, despite whatever the fuck is going on." St. Lucia has always stirred these kinds of emotions. It started with When The Night, which boasted fan favorites like "Elevate," "All Eyes On You," and "Closer Than This," entered the Billboard Top 200 and hit #6 on Billboard's Heatseekers Album chart. Its follow-up Matter, yielded the hit "Dancing On Glass," while the band collaborated with artists ranging from Jack Antonoff to RAC. Two years later, Hyperion represented a creative and critical high watermark with praise from Billboard, who hailed the album as "buoyant," and PopMatters who raved, "it feels revelatory." "When you listen to this, I hope you feel inspired and like life is worth living," Jean leaves off. Patti adds, "it unleashes things, and I think we did a good job capturing that." Interview with Duquette Johnston
We had the pleasure of interviewing Duquette Johnston over Zoom video! Duquette Johnston has shared "Mystics," an ode to the enduring strength of unconditional love and the emotional toll we face when nearly losing it. Written by the Birmingham, Alabama musician for his wife and creative partner Morgan, the song centers on finding beauty in those unbreakable bonds when it feels like everything else around you is falling apart. For Duquette and Morgan, this came as they built their lives together with a focus on giving back in the aftermath of his treacherous cycle through Alabama's prison system - and once again years later as Morgan developed a life-threatening condition after becoming pregnant with their first child. A founding member of the breakout 90s indie band Verbena, Johnston got his musical start signing to Merge Records and touring alongside other ascendant acts of the era like The Strokes and Foo Fighters. In the years that followed, a non-violent drug charge found him stuck in a prison system more focused on "zero tolerance" than recovery and rehabilitation - an experience that's led Johnston to become a vocal advocate for prison reform in his home state of Alabama. With only a select few album releases since leaving prison for the last time in the mid-2000s, The Social Animals marks Duquette's first new record since 2013 and finds him reuniting with friends and collaborators from his indie rock past; including producer John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr, Hop Along, Waxahatchee, Twin Peaks, Kurt Vile) and a band anchored by longtime Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley. The results are a sonic world of spiraling guitars, cavernous beats and Johnston's deeply-learned lessons on the idea that "we can lift each other up. We can change things if we keep our hearts in the right place."Johnston has previously shared the advance singles "Year To Run" and "To My Daughters" from the record. We want to hear from you! Interview with Bestfriend
We had the pleasure of interviewing Bestfriend over Zoom video! Canadian bedroom pop duo Bestfriend are back. After their wildly successful EP, places i've lived, the duo announce a sister EP, places i've left, and share the lead single "Someplace Else," a dreamy bedroom pop bop. Nostalgic, romantic, and sugary sweet, "Someplace Else" is all about crushing on someone, and frankly, "It might be the most purely happy song we have ever written, really," the band notes. Leading listeners into a dreamy soundscape of lush, atmospheric synths and layers upon layers of rich harmonies, Bestfriend's latest single is the perfect prologue to their forthcoming EP, due out this summer. Written and produced entirely by the duo and mixed by Grammy-nominated Travis Ference (Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly, Imagine Dragons), places i've left leaves us where their debut EP places i've lived left us: lovestruck, yearning, and filled with a sun-drenched, bittersweet nostalgia. Bestfriend's debut EP, places i've lived, came out last October, to reach critical acclaim from Under The Radar, Line of Best Fit, Earmilk, DIVA, and more. A love letter to all of the experiences and people from Bestfriend's young adult lives, places i've lived is heavily inspired by storytelling songwriters like Lorde, The National, Big Thief and Julia Jacklin, with production inspired by Bleachers, FINNEAS, The 1975, Rina Sawayama. Created remotely, with Stacy on the west coast and Kaelan in the east, Stacy would write songs, create rough demos and send them to Kaelan who would then produce it from there, passing it back and forth between each other to add/detract elements. Since its release, duo have been featured on Spotify's Lorem, Bedroom Pop, and my life is a movie playlists, amassing over 1,500,000 streams within the first 4 months of release. For more on the story behind the music, check out Bestfriend's exclusive interview with The Line of Best Fit and Luna Collective. We want to hear from you! Interview with Daniel Mertzlufft (TikTok Musical)
We had the pleasure of interviewing Daniel Mertzlufft over Zoom video! Composer, writer and TikTok creator Daniel Mertzlufft ('Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical) is the mastermind behind the TikTok musical, "For You, Paige." For You, Paige, is the first ever TikTok musical to be performed live on stage, in New York City, and streamed globally on TikTok via the @TikTok handle. Starring Roman Banks (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) and Sri Ramesh (EarCandy), the "For You, Paige" musical is the first time an original musical will make its debut through a live online broadcast on TikTok, and it will be one of the most sophisticated productions TikTok has ever supported. Alongside Banks and Ramesh, the production stars Krystina Alabado as Kaia, JJ Niemann as Jarek, along with Aveena Sawyer, Alysia Velez, Fernell Hogan, Cori Jaskier, Max Antonio Gonzalez, Emily Stillings, James Henry Thursday Ferrar and Paul Schoeffler. Producers also include co-executive producer Macy Schmidt, and Joshua Asen, Danielle Dioguardi, and Jessica Norton of Media Monks. Mertzlufft was inspired by the extensive musical theatre community on TikTok to develop "For You, Paige," collaborating with creators from all over the world to build this show. In a story inspired by real TikTokers, teenage music nerd Landon (played by Roman Banks) collaborates with his best friend Paige (played by Sri Ramesh) on a TikTok song inspired by her favorite book series. Landon's TikTok goes viral, thrusting him into the spotlight — and leaving Paige behind. When a producer offers Landon the opportunity to adapt the book series into a musical, Landon discovers that the glory of doing it all himself isn't worth the stress and enlists the help of Paige and the TikTok community to turn the show into a huge success. Interview with Anderson East
We had the pleasure of interviewing Anderson East over Zoom video! GRAMMY® Award-nominated Alabama-born and Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and performer Anderson East has released his new album M.W.N.D. / F.A.M.E. The reimagined recording of his critically acclaimed studio album Maybe We Never Die is available to stream and download beginning today HERE via Elektra/Low Country Sound. Last year, East reimagined, recut, and re-recorded his fifth full-length offering, Maybe We Never Die, live in one day at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL as M.W.N.D. / F.A.M.E. He was accompanied by his bandmates, GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Dave Cobb, and a handful of close friends including Natalie Hemby, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Foy Vance. Regarding M.W.N.D. / F.A.M.E., East shared, "It's amazing how easy it is to make a record after you've already made it once. This was fun, and it's a scrapbook of a moment. We're used to making records with everyone in the same room. It was nice to revert back to that. I just wanted to be around people and go play something. We decided to go to FAME for a day, because it's one of our favorite rooms and the people are incredible. It felt very natural to fully simplify Maybe We Never Die at a place we enjoy." Maybe We Never Die initially captivated fans and critics last year. The album arrived to widespread acclaim from Forbes, NPR Music, Rolling Stone, Southern Living, American Songwriter, and more. East delivered unforgettable performances of the album's lead single "Madelyn" on Late Night with Seth Meyers, CBS Saturday Morning, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and celebrated the album's release with his 49-city Maybe We Never Die Tour of North America, which wrapped earlier this month. Now, M.W.N.D. / F.A.M.E. represents Anderson East at his most vulnerable, vibrant, and vital. ABOUT ANDERSON EAST: GRAMMY® Award-nominated Alabama-born and Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and performer Anderson East has always seamlessly trafficked between heritage soul, Americana, gospel, R&B, blues, roots, and rock. Following his independent debut Flowers of the Broken Hearted [2012], he continued to hone his voice and vision on Delilah [2015] and Encore [2018]. In addition to eclipsing 100 million streams, the latter yielded the single "All on My Mind," which notably garnered a 2019 GRAMMY® Award nod in the category of "Best American Roots Performance." In between sold out headline gigs in historic venues such as the Ryman, he delivered soaring and scorching performances on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, TODAY, Late Night with Seth Meyers, PBS' Austin City Limits, and more. Maybe We Never Die arrived to widespread tastemaker acclaim in 2021. Forbes raved, "Maybe We Never Die is fit for dancing through the end of the world," NPR noted, "his hefty vocals seem only more urgent in this subdued setting," and American Songwriter praised, "characterized by his gentle, We want to hear from you! Interview with Young Rising Sons
We had the pleasure of interviewing Young Rising Sons over Zoom video! New Jersey indie pop act Young Rising Sons recently released their debut album Still Point In A Turning World. Young Rising Sons have done just what their moniker describes—rising from strength to strength. The single "Passenger" is a track that is desperately needed as we entered 2022. In a period of time where everyone opts to be reminded of the negative and dismal aspects of the world, Young Rising Sons is choosing to do the opposite and shift perspectives by reminding both themselves & their listeners that above everything else, we are so lucky to be here in this moment. Since receiving support from the likes of Billboard, Teen Vogue, Ones to Watch, and more, Young Rising Sons, consisting of Andy Tongren (lead singer/guitar), Julian Dimagiba (bass), Max Iantorno (guitar) and Steve Patrick (drums), has been a staple in the indie pop/rock scene, opening for the likes of The 1975, Weezer, Bleachers, and more. Described by Teen Vogue as a band "with catchy tracks that give your typical pop sound an experimental twist," the band dropped their extended EP "Swirl" in 2021 which followed after a number of successful releases. Interview with Beth Hart
We had the pleasure of interviewing Beth Hart over Zoom video! The Grammy-nominated vocalist Beth Hart has been gearing up for the release of her "Black Dog" music video for months, but unfortunately for undisclosed reasons, she isn't able to include the audio. Never one to withhold from her fans, Hart decided to release the video anyway – just without the audio – in what may be the first ever "silent" music video release. Directed by Greg Watermann, the "Black Dog" music video comes on the heels of Hart's latest album 'A Tribute To Led Zeppelin,' which pays tribute to one of the most formative musical influences of her career. At the helm during the recording of 'A Tribute To Led Zeppelin' was super-producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance) and engineer Doug McKean (Goo Goo Dolls, Adam Lambert). The A-list musicians include Cavallo on guitar along with Tim Pierce (Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner); on bass was Chris Chaney (Rob Zombie, Slash);on keyboards was Jamie Muhoberac (Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones); on drums was Dorian Crozier (Celine Dion, Miley Cyrus, Joe Cocker), and Matt Laug played drums on Stairway To Heaven (Alanis Morissette, Alice Cooper). Orchestral arrangements were by David Campbell (Muse, Beyoncé). All that was left was the final piece of the puzzle...the voice. Things clicked into place when Cavallo was producing Hart's previous album, 'War In My Mind' (2019), and she did an impromptu version of "Whole Lotta Love" in the studio. He later asked about doing a whole record. Earlier on in Beth's career, former VP of Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label, Alan Callan, recommended Beth contact Jeff Beck to work together. Hart and Beck have gone on to form a beautiful friendship. Beck and Jimmy Page are also friends, and for a while, bandmates in The Yardbirds. After Beck's departure from the band, they would eventually become Led Zeppelin. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing JOHNNYSWIM over Zoom video! JOHNNYSWIM, the acclaimed husband and wife singer-songwriter duo of Amanda Sudano-Ramirez and Abner Ramirez, release their fourth full-length album, JOHNNYSWIM. Predominantly produced by Abner, the album includes additional production from Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter Malay (Frank Ocean, Sam Smith) and Harold Brown as well as a feature collaboration with acclaimed Houston-based artist Tobe Nwigwe on "Desmond's Song." Created during the height of the pandemic, the self-titled album gives voice to life's ups and downs while Amanda and Abner translate their memories, moments and milestones into spirited anthems steeped in the singer/songwriter tradition.
