We had the pleasure of interviewing Star2 over Zoom video! Star2 is an Asian-American singer, songwriter and rapper who seamlessly blends pop, R&B and hip-hop for an enthralling immersion of sound. Raised in inauspicious circumstances, Star2 takes influence from overcoming his life struggles, creating music that is bold, high-spirited and soulful. "Run Away", Star2's staggering new "conscious rap" release, documents the crushing social and environmental catastrophes that plague our world and consume us with alarm and despair, including the horrific invasion in Ukraine. Woven in his sobering retrospective is his personal sorrow and anguish growing up without a mother and father in a refugee camp in South East Asia – fleeing genocide and ethnic cleansing of his Ka-ren people by the brutal Burmese Army and Myanmar Military Regime. Part religious testimony, part philosopher's insight, Star2 directs us to consider what the rest of the world is facing and how they are suffering – also how people are in misery and anguish because of homelessness, poverty, violence, and war. The video asks everyone to "Pray for peace in our world." Star2 implores: "pray for my Ka-ren people who continue to experience genocide, for the Ukranian people, and for everyone suffering injustice – pray for peace." We had the pleasure of interviewing Becca Stevens over Zoom video! GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Becca Stevens and GRAMMY Award-winning Attacca Quartet recently released their collaborative album Becca Stevens | Attacca Quartet, on GroundUP Music. Nearly a decade ago, Stevens was approached by pianist, composer, and conductor Stephen Prutsman to reimagine some of her songs with string arrangements for a performance at San Diego's Mainly Mozart Festival. It would become a life-changing opportunity—introducing Stevens to her husband, the acclaimed violist, composer, and Attacca Quartet member Nathan Schram. This concert would ultimately inspire her career-spanning album—one which blossomed alongside her relationship with Nathan, resulting in the collaborative full-length. Becca's family also played a vital role in the shaping of Becca Stevens | Attacca Quartet, including string arrangements from her father (composer William Stevens) and arrangements/co-production by her brother (producer/engineer/composer Bill Stevens). Hailed for their stylistic versatility, Attacca is the perfect foil for Becca, who has long explored a wide range of genres - from folk and jazz to funk and pop. The album's tracklist honors the project's origins while reflecting Becca's development as an artist. Since the recording of Becca Stevens | Attacca Quartet, much has transpired. We had the pleasure of interviewing Northlane over Zoom video! Australia's heavy trailblazers NORTHLANE have released their sixth album, Obsidian, via Believe. Northlane's new offering, Obsidian, is their most expansive and dynamic album yet. Self-recorded and self-produced, the sound Northlane have been working towards over the span of their career has been fully realised on Obsidian. Sonically spanning the gamut of their entire discography, Northlane's trademark heavy comfortably coexists with techno, drum and bass, intriguing synths, perplexing time signatures, and widescreen choruses. The 14 song double album features contributions from AURORA, CHAI, Felicia Douglass (Dirty Projectors), Mary Lattimore, Rodrigo Alarcon, and Ana Müller. On April 30, Lerche will embark on his first US tour in more than 5 years. The tour will make stops in Seattle Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and more. Lerche explains: "'Alone In The Night' was the first recording I did for the Avatars of Love album. It put everything in motion, and surprised me greatly. I heard AURORA's voice singing it in my mind one day when I was out running in the sun. So I asked her if she'd sing it with me. It felt extra special, because I had just returned home to Bergen after 15 years of living in the US. And she was one of the first to greet me there. It's a song about what happens to our bodies and souls when we fall in love, and then again through the passage of time, when we age and die. It's ultimately about our memories and dementia. How frail we really are, and how heartless the process of aging can be to lovers." From March 31 through April 24, Lerche and Norwegian artist Nikolai Torgersen, who drew all of the visuals for Avatars of Love, presented an art exhibit at Kulturhuset i Bergen. The exhibit featured 40+ pieces of artwork tied to the album that were auctioned off, with proceeds being donated to families who struggle with poverty and children who are the victims of substance abuse, charities near and dear to Nikolai, as well as to victims of the war in Ukraine. This year, Lerche's incredibly successful collaboration with the longtime biodynamic, family-run wine producer Castell D'Age finally became available at select retailers and wine-forward restaurants in the US. We had the pleasure of interviewing Stefano May over Zoom video! Stefano is a singer, songwriter and piano virtuoso who fuses soul, pop and classical for an enthralling musical journey. The talented songwriter's music is marked by hope, love and connection in the aim to heal. Born in Soveria Mannelli, Italy, Stefano took to music at an early age and began classical piano training at age seven. He quickly gained notoriety by performing on popular Italian TV shows, and since then has collaborated with famed songwriters, as well as the famed director Franco Zeffirelli.
