Interview with Spencer Brown & Marieme

We had the pleasure of interviewing Spencer Brown & Marieme over Zoom video! Spencer Brown launched his own record label, diviine, earlier this year to release whatever music type he wanted, when he wanted, without restrictions. The label's debut double single 'Forbidden Flow / 18 Min Loop' featured a song that clocked in at, you guessed it, 18 minutes. While the initial release was geared towards the club, Spencer further demonstrates the zeitgeist of diviine with the follow-up up release 'Stuck/Reflex,' two beautiful songs that feature vocals from Senegalese-American singer-songwriter, Marieme. A favorite of top lifestyle publications including V Magazine and FLAUNT, Marieme's sultry, smooth and soulful touch is at the core of what makes this unique collaboration so special. 'Stuck' is a flowing, ethereal slice of progressive house while 'Reflex' is built around a traditional songwriting structure, allowing Marieme to tell her story unaccompanied by beats until the very end. Spencer is an artist who likes to live on the cutting edge of dance music without being boxed into any genre. Whether it be techno, deep house, progressive house, or a whopping 18-minute stormer, Spencer creates what he wants, when he wants, for the love of music. Throughout his career, he's explored the label system, never bound to any organization, but choosing world-class imprints such as Anjunadeep, Last Night on Earth, Factory93, and mau5trap to release his diverse work. It's now time for Spencer to take the next step in his career and launch his own label...a place for dance music without any boundaries…this is diviine. Spencer Brown's 'Stuck/Reflex' is now available across all digital platforms. div002 Tracklist Stuck Reflex We want to hear from you! Interview with Jay-Way

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jay-Way over Zoom video! Don't get in the way of Jay-Way's hustle. On "Shawty Goodnight," the hip-hop innovator bids goodbye to a jealous lover who has pushed him into a corner, forcing him to choose between romance and music. He chooses to stay loyal to his art, turning "Shawty Goodnight" into a tribute to creativity and commitment. A different kind of partnership runs through "Shawty Goodnight," which finds Jay-Way sharing vocal duties with guest rapper Parris Chariz. The song's verses are packed with rhythm and rhyme, but the two artists sing those lyrics rather than rapping them. The result is a song whose momentum is matched by its melody, with synthesizers, electric guitar riffs, and an 808 drum loop all evoking the neon nostalgia of the 1980s. Don't mistake "Shawty Goodnight" for a track that looks backward, though. This is a modern-day tribute to the artistic pursuit, delivered by a multi-lingual, genre-bending songwriter who has always embraced unconventionality. Jay-Way is dedicated to the climb, and these days, he's looking nowhere but up. "Shawty Goodnight" is available on all digital streaming platforms. About Jay-Way: Jay-Way is redefining hip-hop music. Based in Amsterdam, he brings a broad, boundary-breaking perspective to the genre, filling his songs with the street-smart swagger of rap and the modern melodies of pop, the laidback cool of old-school soul music, and the optimistic outlook of the gospel. It's a sound that hasn't just set him apart from his contemporaries; it's made him a genuine star at home and abroad, too, with songs like "Happen Dappen" topping Spotify's NL Viral Chart while racking up nearly 2.5 million streams. Arriving in 2020, No, I'm Not OK follows the previous releases Jaynalysis, No Life No Wifi, and Teen Gohan, mixing Jay-Way's most pop-influenced songs to date with lyrics about trusting your gut and rising above your obstacles. Interview with Jennifer Decilveo

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jennifer Decilveo over Zoom video! Since breaking through with Andra Day's 2015 hit "Rise Up," Decilveo has carved out a place as one of music's most exciting and experimental new writer-producers, crafting critically-acclaimed tracks with Beth Ditto, Hinds, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and more. Decilveo never planned on a career in music. She grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Pennsylvania's Lehigh University with a degree in finance. She scored a job at Deloitte, where she spent most of her days looking at Excel spreadsheets. Decilveo had recently seen a clip of hitmaker Kara DioGuardi on YouTube, singing a hit she'd written for Kelly Clarkson. "Oh, so this is a job, huh?" she remembers thinking. Decilveo quit her finance job to intern at a Manhattan studio. She spent a summer writing songs and teaching herself Logic. She moved to L.A., where her BMG publisher introduced her to Andra Day, a jazz-schooled powerhouse who was working on her first album. They wrote "Rise Up," a four-chord gospel anthem about getting through dark times. The song was nominated for two Grammys and remains a modern standard: Per President Obama's request, she sang it at the Obama Foundation Summit concert in Chicago, and again on the steps of Washington D.C.'s Roosevelt Hotel during President Biden's inaugural parade. Decilveo has been gaining momentum ever since. She co-produced and co-wrote Melanie Martinez' "Play Date," which became a sleeper hit in 2020, going platinum and scoring over 500 million streams. She produced and co-wrote Madrid indie band Hinds' third studio album The Prettiest Curse, and seven tracks on Ben Platt's acclaimed debut Sing to Me Instead (which she also executive produced). She recently co-wrote two deeply confessional hits; Demi Lovato's "I Love Me," and Miley Cyrus' "High" off 2021's Plastic Hearts. In the process, Decilveo has created a lane for sonically wild and deeply personal stories on the radio. Decilveo has a huge 2021 lined up. She produced three singles on Marina Diamandis' new LP Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, and executive produced and co-wrote Christina Perri's forthcoming studio album, due out in the near future. She is also working with the rising Memphis soul singer Valerie June, and wrote the upcoming lead single by Glassnote artist Taylor Janzen, which will be released ahead of Janzen's anticipated Lollapalooza set. Interview with Trench

We had the pleasure of interviewing Trench over Zoom video! Setting the bar high with their debut record Condition (2017), Trench paved themselves a notably unique lane in both hardcore and nu-metal genres. Not stopping there and taking their sound to even further extremes, The Gift of Guilt (2019) was a testament to Trench's ability to reinvent themselves with each release. The 3-song behemoth experimented with synthesis, ambient post-metal soundscapes, and captured the pain of loss while embracing the hardest truths in life. Throughout these two releases, Trench's unrelenting aggression and extensive touring brought them international recognition, and has allowed them to share the stage with bands such as Misery Signals, Integrity, Harm's Way, and Comeback Kid. Propelled by the leading single "Hell Bent Gate" which features Jesse Zaraska of Misery Signals on guest vocals, Trench landed on Revolver's "Top 5 Bands To Watch" list. Blending their previous styles with far more avant-garde song arrangements, Trench take us to a place where we are left contemplating our inner demons, trapped under the weight of our absence in the present moment. As the pandemic brought most of the music industry to a screening halt, Trench had to walk away from a tour lined up with Misery Signals as opening support across the east coast of the US and Canada. Not letting a cancelled tour come between them and their will to succeed, Trench quickly adapted to their circumstances and wrote new material, which landed them a deal with New Damage Records (Dine Alone Records), serving as a testament to the undying determination that drives the metal quintet. Constantly pushing the envelope and developing a catalogue of songs that will forever leave their mark on the industry, there is just no telling how Trench will leave us feeling after consuming their carefully crafted chaos. Interview with Hoodie Allen

We had the pleasure of interviewing Hoodie Allen over Zoom video! Hoodie Allen reveals the first track debuting his alternative pop-rock emergence, "Wouldn't That Be Nice." Driven by the emotions of heartbreak, the emo track showcases Hoodie Allen's musical abilities and smashes down preconceptions from his previous releases. Coinciding with the song is an elaborate, cinematic music video portraying the beginning of the upcoming album's storyline. The track is anthemic in its emotional peaks and valleys much like the up and down nature of the relationship it speaks to. The soft start builds into a powerful punk-inspired melody that exemplifies the emotional waves throughout his upcoming album, making it an ideal preview of Hoodie's new direction: "Wouldn't That Be Nice felt like the first single because this is the first time I'm really giving people a storytelling album and it felt like there couldn't be anywhere to start except the beginning of the end. It's about the feeling of still holding on even though there's so much wrong that has transpired. I want to open people up to this world I've created and I think Wouldn't That Be Nice showcases all the highs and lows and the range of dynamics. Therefore, it is the perfect appetizer for what's to come." - Hoodie Allen Hoodie Allen delivers heartbreak-inspired emo hooks in the latest iteration of his ever-evolving musical journey. His upcoming eight-track album weaves between infectious pop melodies juxtaposed with punk guitar riffs. A sonic departure from his usual playful raps, the record takes listeners on a highly personal journey of the messiness that befalls a breakup. The alternative pop-punk emergence isn't completely unexpected, however, as Hoodie has previously toured with the likes of Fall Out Boy, opened for Panic at the Disco & Twenty One Pilots, and collaborated with Mark Hoppus (of Blink 182) and State Champs. The Brooklyn-based indie musician became an independent sensation when he first formally arrived in 2009. Without a label or management, his 2012 EP All American landed in the Top 10 of Billboard's Top 200, delivering 2 platinum singles, and eventually moving over 250,000 units. His mainstream success led to a collaboration with Ed Sheeran in 2014, which garnered buzz from MTV, Buzzfeed, Billboard, and more. Now he is poised to break all preconceptions with his next genre-shifting release, which was co-written and produced with The Wreck's Nick Anderson. Hoodie's fun-loving yet vulnerably honest take on alternative rock is fueled by his long-time love of punk rock and guaranteed to strike a chord with anyone looking for a vibrant summer soundtrack. Interview with Kayla Thompson

We had the pleasure of interviewing Kayla Thompson over Zoom video! Singer songwriter Kayla Thompson delivers an ethereal performance on her latest single, "The Remains," out now. This single is her first release since gracing fans with "Younger," which recently landed Thompson a major playlist placement on Spotify's Fresh Finds Pop playlist. At its core, "The Remains" captures the inner conflict of making the right choice even when it is painful; this single reminisces on a summer romance that came to a heart-wrenching end with the shift of the seasons. Thompson effortlessly turns pain into beauty on this track with her honeyed, warm-toned vocals that shine brightly atop intricate instrumentation. Her voice entrances listeners with delicate finesse and a somber delivery that serves as a taste of what's to come as she embraces her authentic alt-pop sound, and delivers music that is unapologetically her. Listeners can expect to hear influence from artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo and Tori Kelly on "The Remains." More about Kayla: Twenty-six-year old Kayla Thompson was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts and later moved to North Carolina where she currently lives with her family. Being raised in generations of singers, songwriters, and musicians, music was always a fundamental building block of her life. In 2015, she recognized her inherited gift of songwriting and shortly after decided to defer from college to pursue music full-time. She began putting out covers on her YouTube channel and Instagram page where she gained more traction. In 2017, she released her first original song, 'Hold on to My Hand', and in 2019, she became the most vulnerable she's ever been in her music, releasing 'Deep Breath'—a piece sharing her personal struggle and triumph over anxiety. With each release since her sound has evolved along with her growing fanbase. This remains true for her latest single 'Younger' which gained more streams than any other single in the first week alone, and has been placed on multiple Spotify editorial playlists. More important than anything, music has brought her immense artistic refinement and personal growth as she embraces the journey for what it is and not just the destination. We want to hear from you! Interview with Emarosa

We had the pleasure of interviewing Bradley Scott of Emarosa over Zoom video! Emarosa is returning to the alt pop scene with their dazzling first single since their showstopping 2019 album Peach Club. "Preach," out on April 27th, doubles down on their indisputable talent to create shining pop melodies as they continue to elevate the dance-worthy direction that their fans loved. The track is a culmination of the band's experiences over the last three years since their previous release, as the lyrics suggest. Additionally, it is listeners' first glimpse into what they can expect from the upcoming tracks that the band is preparing to release throughout 2022: some of the strongest 80's inspired alt-pop songs of Emarosa's career. "From the first snare hit to the unabashed MJ 'ow!' proclamation, it only takes a moment to realize we've doubled down on the pop sensibility we tackled in 2019. The first words of this record, 'pack it up, love. Nothing lasts forever," says everything I've felt across the last 3 years since Peach Club. It can all be taken away in a second, you can be at the top and in the blink of an eye you're at rock bottom. Everyone has an opinion, a stone to throw, they all have something to preach. Just don't preach to me." - Bradley Scott, Vocalist of Emarosa. We want to hear from you! Interview with Daisy Guttridge

We had the pleasure of interviewing Daisy Guttridge over Zoom video! Daisy Guttridge reveals the music video for fan-favorite track "Skin" today, March 9th. Featuring creative direction from Daisy Guttridge herself, the singer/songwriter pours her heart out, with a coy guest appearance from co-writer Marc E. Bassy and his soulful vocals. The video's look is inspired by Italian fashion photographer Davide Sorrenti, who Daisy cites as a major influence. Director of Photography Emad Rashidi was able to help bring this vision to life with the use of similarly raw, personal, and authentic close-ups. Shot on location in Los Angeles by director Danny Ghost (Daniel Drachman), the visual follows Daisy as she sings about a crush, with cuts of a female love interest interspersed throughout. The LGBTQ+ inclusive story showcases Daisy's fashion sense and natural star power, displaying her as a tastemaker across creative industries. Co-written and produced by Tk Kayembeh. Following the positive critical reception of her first single "i found u," Daisy Guttridge recently embarked on Hippie Sabotage's 46-date Rooms of Hallucination Tour. Guttridge will support the Californian duo on all of their massive set of North American shows. A regular within the Hippie Sabotage tour camp, Daisy Guttridge is known for her previous work with the aforementioned pair, as well as tracks with Tommy Trash and Big Gigantic. She provided vocals for Vicetone on his hit single "Waiting" which has notched up over 18 million streams. She is set to release her debut EP The Highs in 2022. The project is entirely produced by her trusted collaborator Tk Kayembe, who plays a key role in shaping Daisy's sound. The England-born and LA-based singer/songwriter allows a deeper look into her complicated, relatable experiences as a human and an artist. Speaking about her mental health, career, and relationships, The Highs is Guttridge's powerful project that lets Guttridge speak her truth for the first time. We want to hear from you! Interview with The Kentucky Gentlemen

≈We had the pleasure of interviewing The Kentucky Gentlemen over Zoom video! The Kentucky Gentlemen just released a fantastic new single called "Whatever You're Up For," and they're gearing up to release more new music! The Kentucky Gentlemen is the twin-brother duo of Brandon and Derek Campbell originally from Versailles, KY. We first discovered these guys last year when Mickey Guyton tweeted about them, and we (like her) were completely blown away. We started digging and quickly found their Love & Acceptance Concert performance of "Vibin'," an absolutely infectious song that was featured by CMT, who praised "Derek's twanging baritone and Brandon's timeless Southern soul." The duo's follow-up single "Whatever You're Up For" combines their love of '90s country and R&B into one helluva country bop that perfectly depicts the excitement of a new relationship. Wide Open Country called it "an irresistible country jam that makes for the perfect first date soundtrack," and Music Row said it's "a sexy, good-time come-on that is ready for any country dance floor. This jam is star-making stuff." They've been making a name for themselves around Nashville this last year, working with songwriter/producer Chris Sligh (Rascal Flatts) and Grammy-nominated producer Matt McClure (Lee Brice, Dylan Scott).
