Interview with CHLSY

We had the pleasure of interviewing CHLSY over Zoom video. Nashville-based group CHLSY recently release their new single "555" from their new EP Quantum Entanglement. From the inception of the band in July of 2021, Gilliland and her bandmates strive to reignite 90's sounds with their own modern "dark rock" spin and make music for others to feel seen. She has been working alongside GRAMMY® winning producer with 135+ billboard hits, Dave Audé and co-writing with David "DQ" Quiñones, Chloe Lattanzi, Rachel Levin, and has received accolades including recipient to the John Lennon Songwriting Award in 2017. CHLSY has grown its loyal social media fan base to nearly 83.7K followers and will be supporting Nashville-based rock band The Criticals on tour this July as they refine their live show and finish their self-produced debut EP released at the end of summer. CHLSY is made up of front-woman Chelsea Gilliland, bassist Sean Swanson and drummer Sawyer Dodds, all of which had a hand in writing and producing the new single "555," alongside musician Jon Ezzo. Born in Massachusetts and having lived in Spain and California, Gilliland now resides in Nashville, Tennessee, where she graduated from Belmont University with a concentration in songwriting and a minor in the music business. You may also hear her voice as a radio host for the local radio station Yoco Nashville on 96.7FM. The name and inspiration for the song come from the angel number 555, signifying change, blending sounds of pop/punk with dramatic instrumental builds filling out the track. The track comes on the heels of several single releases, including "Garden," "Vancouver," two additional songs, "Bones" and "it was all in my head," and their most recognized track, "No (Hard) Feelings," which hit over 280K views within the first two weeks of its release. Interview with Her Head's On Fire

We had the pleasure of interviewing Her Head's On Fire over Zoom video. Indie rock, of all stripes, is far too long in the tooth —and the classic back catalogs far too crowded— fo half measures: If we are to have new "left of the dial" songs in an age where the wry cleverness and heart-on-sleeve (or heart-patch-on-messenger-bag?) vulnerability of yore have listed into a kind of sardonic nihilism, then those songs must be full of that strange alchemic mix of chords and melodies that make hearts flutter and souls soar—they must be incandescent; bright flares that light us up and burn away the pretenses and bullshit the world circa 2022 seems determined to encase us in. Enter Her Head's On Fire — a fiery, enlivening quartet with an unfuckwithable pedigree (Saves the Day, Garrison, Small Brown Bike, The Bomb, Gay for Johnny Depp) that serves as the DNA for a 10-track genetic splicing debut full-length, College Rock & Clove Cigarettes, that is not only simultaneously familiar and transcendent but also very, very good. If you ever thrilled to the anthems of Samiam, pounded the steering wheel to Superchunk, reveled in the waves of Dinosaur Jr's melodic fuzz, gladly went over to the Farside, got down to some Elvis Costello, or can remember where you were the first time you heard Sense Field…well, then Her Head's On Fire's heart-seeking post-post-hardcore, "emo"tive rock stemwinders will be the best thing to happen to you in a very long time. Building on the promise of an auspicious bow via last year's well-received split with living legend J. Robbins, College Rock & Clove Cigarettes is a beguiling and powerful statement: Her Head's On Fire has your number and a container of clean sonic kerosine. All you have to do is follow the light, open up to the real, and find your way back to the messy, anthem-inspiring glory of love once again. We want to hear from you! Interview with Taylor Acorn

We had the pleasure of interviewing Taylor Acorn over Zoom video. Nashville based singer/songwriter, Taylor Acorn, is gearing up for her FIRST EVER tour supporting Real Friends. The tour will be visiting over 25 cities across North America including stops in Toronto,ON, Philadelphia, PA, New York, NY, Pomona, CA and more before wrapping on Tuesday, November 1st in Minneapolis, MN at The Garage. In August, Taylor shared her latest single, "Psycho," an empowering pop rock anthem about taking your power back from a partner that has been gaslighting you and turning into the "bad guy" they think you are. Growing up in the early 90's & 2000's pop punk/ pop rock scene, for Taylor Acorn it was never a phase. Hailing from the small North Central Pennsylvania town of Wellsboro, Taylor had always dreamed of a career in music and in 2014, dropped out of Kutztown University to pursue just that, setting her sights for Nashville in 2017. She first left her mark in the country music world with her 2017 single "Put It In a Song" followed up by an EP she wrote solely on her own, which now garners nearly 50 Million streams, releasing several singles to follow. However, she never felt at home creating country music and in the midst of the 2020 pandemic went back to her pop punk roots with her cover of "Jamie All Over" on TikTok, sparking the attention of many elder emo fans as well as Mayday Parade themselves. Since then, she has gained the attention of many emo/pop punk bands with her newly rendered versions of their songs. Covers aren't the only thing that's been grasping the attention of fans though. With her infectiously relatable releases of "Do That Again", "In My Head" and "Shapeshifting", Taylor is now leaving her own footprint in the pop punk community giving her fans a place to feel safe and to feel heard, by tackling tough subjects such as mental health by sharing her own personal struggles. She wants to give her listeners a space where they can feel free and vulnerable, a place where healing is accepted no matter who you are or where you've come from. We want to hear from you! Interview with Futuristic

We had the pleasure of interviewing Futuristic over Zoom video. Growing up around music from his father & 8 siblings it was inevitable that Futuristic would be a natural. The household was filled with hip-hop, rock & pop vibes all giving the young artist an eclectic palate to begin a very successful journey. His professional career began in 2012 with the release of his first album "Dream Big". From then till now he's done it all. His albums "The Rise" & "Coast 2 Coast" both premiered in the top 10 on Billboard in 2015 landing him on TV shows such as Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America & Good Day New York. His collaboration with superstar NF is now over 56 million streams on Spotify alone adding to the list of 63 other songs that have surpassed the 1 million stream milestone. Maybe more impressive, Futuristic has conquered a variety of other endeavors outside of music like opening a clothing store, landing his own clothing line in over 100 retail stores, writing a book, partnering in film properties, running a management company & starting the one stop shop for artists "Indie Amplify". Moving forward he has refocused himself on music, digging back into some of his early roots of rock & pop for his upcoming project "Never 2 Late". Interview with Selin

We had the pleasure of interviewing Selin over Zoom video. Istanbul-born, London-based pop force Selin makes a major statement with her latest single "Cool" – which marks her first official English single under Warner Music. Written by Selin with Gil Lewis (Blithe, BEKA, Aleyna Tilki) and Micky Blue (Tiësto, TWICE, TaeYeon), "Cool" is a slow-burning, alt-pop number that faces the problem and ensuing emotional chaos of trying to remain on good terms with an ex. Expertly crafted pop hooks and Selin's honeyed vocals help deliver the personal lyrics with complete emotional capacity, backed up by full-bodied drums and distinctively catchy guitar riffs for a sensational pop-rock experience. With Selin getting her name out there via big-time dance cuts for major names like Mahmut Orhan, Mert Oksuz, Barlas & Mert, and Trafoier, the bilingual, free-spirited creative made her official Warner Music debut in 2021 with the punchy and slick synth stylings of "Gidip Gel"; effortlessly blending English and Turkish lyrics with Selin's powerful vocal moments, Selin then proved her international capabilities by transforming the song into a fully English remake in "Give and Take", which received key support from Brooke Reese's Apple Music show. Selin embarked on her journey as an independent artist after graduating from the BIMM Institute London, which has seen her opening for artists like Donna Missal at O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in London, as well as a stadium tour around Turkey performing alongside Turkish icon Sertab Erener. Carving out an audience for herself with her 'boho rock' vibes and unique viral content of Selin covering Turkish classics with English lyrics, the covers prove a further example of Selin's mission to sprinkle what she calls her "Turkish spice" into all aspects of her career – be it through creative infusions of Turkish instruments across Western pop production, or seamlessly mixing Turkish and English lyrics together. Always taking an authentic approach to her songwriting, Selin uses the art form as her own form of healing and writes with 'no filter' to capture her innermost thoughts and feelings. Interview with The Higher

We had the pleasure of interviewing The Higher over Zoom video. The Higher recently released their first single since their 2009 LP It's Only Natural titled "Free Ride." This new single comes ahead of the band's newly announced EP Elvis in Wonderland, which is entirely produced by Mike Pepe (Taking Back Sunday, As It Is, Bayside, Anthony Green.) Elvis in Wonderland hits DSPs October 14, 2022 via Secret Friends Music Group, and will be available on vinyl in collaboration with Take This To Heart Records and Parting Gift Records. The Higher rode the wave of pop-rock stardom in the early 2000's after sharing the stage with emo greats including Panic! At The Disco, Taking Back Sunday, Motion City Soundtrack, Silverstein, and more. Their unique brand of rock fused with a hint of groove landed their fan-favorite On Fire LP a #9 spot on the Billboard Heatseekers Charts, on heavy rotation on multiple MTV channels, and on the radar of top tastemakers including SPIN, Kerrang!, Fuse, and more. Now the Epitaph Records alumni are taking everything they know from the major stages of their early days to shine brighter than ever for their 2022 comeback. The new tracks encompass their rejuvenated sound and fresh era fusing elements of dance pop, emo, and R&B with a pop-punk edge. Interview with Hezron Clarke

We had the pleasure of interviewing Hezron Clarke over Zoom video. Montego Bay, Jamaica raised vocalist, songwriter and producer Hezron Clarke released his album, M.O.A.M. (Man on a Mission), via Tad's Record (Ernie Ranglin, Tanya Stephens). Recorded in Reggae's birthplace, Kingston Jamaica, M.O.A.M. features some of Jamaica's greatest musicians including Dean Fraser (saxophone), Kirk "Kirkle Dove" Bennett (drums), Donald "Danny Bassie" Dennis (bass), Mitchum Khan (guitar), Carol "Bowie" McLaughlin (keyboards) and Robbie Lyn (keyboards). On a lyrical front, the album embodies feel-good vibes with motivational and inspirational concepts that encourage patience and resilience. With inspiration from classic soul artists such as Luther Vandross, Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, to 90's favorites KC and Jojo and Dave Hollister to iconic Jamaican singers Beres Hammond and Dennis Brown, Hezron has embodied his own classic vocal and musical style while taking notes from some of the greats. Hezron released his debut album The Life I Live(d) on Tad's Record in 2015. His return to the label with M.O.A.M. unites two established Jamaican brands, each committed to proving that quality reggae with the potential for widespread global appeal is still being made in the music's birthplace. Although many younger Jamaican artists embrace trap and hip-hop over indigenous reggae and dancehall, a stark contrast to the proliferation of young American reggae bands, especially in California, Tad's Record founder Tad Dawkins is determined to see Jamaican reggae restored to prominence internationally. It's an objective he firmly believes will be fulfilled with the release of M.O.A.M. We want to hear from you! Interview with Brooke Annibale

We had the pleasure of interviewing Brooke Annibale over Zoom video. Indie singer/songwriter Brooke Annibale released new album Better By Now through Nettwerk Music Group. A fearless new collection of songs, Brooke has both emboldened her sound on Better By Now as well as entered a new phase of life after making significant strides in her mental-health journey and saying "I do" to her wife. "I wrote this song in early January 2021," stated Brooke. "We had literally just put the christmas tree out on the curb, and I felt this terrible sentimental feeling for it. This was also the same week as the Capitol attack. We had pushed through 2020, looking at 2021 as some kind of savior, but once it arrived nothing really changed. There was still the same intensely hostile political discourse and the pandemic continued raging on. It felt like things were getting worse somehow, when I hoped for it to be better by now. Reflecting on that time, it taught me that expecting a perfect external outcome will not lead to feeling better. I've got to do the internal work to have any kind of peace with the roller coaster of life." Produced by Christian "Leggy" Langdon (Joseph, Amos Lee) and Matthew E White (Natalie Prass, Dan Croll), Better By Now features 10 blossoming indie-pop tracks that Brooke describes as a "spectrum of emotions." In her trademark layered approach, the Pittsburgh-born, Rhode Island-based artist reflects on love, anxiety, depression, and how two seemingly opposing forces can exist at once. "The album is basically half about falling in love and half about mental health." Earlier this summer, Brooke teased a couple songs from her new album, including the "immediately catchy" (FLOOD) lead single "What If You" and the "soaring, ethereal pop song" (Brooklyn Vegan) "5 AM" accompanied by the Genéa Gaudet-directed video. In celebration of Pride Month, Brooke also shared an inspiring op-ed via Atwood Magazine on representation, equality, authentic connection, and her journey to self-acceptance. Brooke's expressive and beautifully thoughtful songwriting creates a dreamy and enticing sonic landscape. We want to hear from you!
