Interview with Balu Brigada

We had the pleasure of interviewing Balu Brigada over Zoom video! Balu Brigada are an alt-pop duo from New Zealand, made up of multi-instrumentalist writer/producer brothers, Henry and Pierre Beasley. With a pop sensibility that still sits a little left of center, their tracks prioritize prominent bass-hooks and punchy drums with natural quirk and relatability. Showcasing their ability to skate genres they pull from a broad range of influences, from the Strokes to the Gorrillaz to Tame Impala, whilst creating a unique future-facing sound of their own. Key to Balu Brigada's magic is their inimitable brotherly bond, with their joy for - and gentle ribbing of - each other coming through in everything they do. Their musical conversation mirrors their real-life communication, as dual-vocalists, multi-instrumentalists, songwriters, and co-producers, finishing each other's sentences both in everyday discourse and in song. Their debut EP 'I Should Be Home', was released September 23 via Atlantic Records / Warner Music Australia. Embodied by the overarching metaphor of a night out, 'I Should Be Home' details the blurry experiences of growing into your own skin as a twenty-something year old - revisiting messy break-ups and drunken epiphanies, recalling both the sugar rush of the party's start, and the sobering realization the fun has worn off. Interview with Danny Dwyer

We had the pleasure of interviewing Danny Dwyer over Zoom video! Hailing from St. Louis, MO, Danny is an LA-based singer/songwriter & producer whose genreless music straddles indie rock, alternative, pop, and everything in between. He grew up learning jazz and playing in punk bands which eventually led him to college in Los Angeles where he studied music and started working on his solo artist project. Following a break-up in 2017, Danny turned to writing as he released his first song 'What You Want' as part of a school assignment. Mixing contemporary R&B with his love of indie music, the song's early success inspired him to pursue his solo artist project. A genre chameleon, Danny seamlessly straddles different musical styles and sounds, bringing in diverse musical influences from his childhood and development. Recent collaborators include Benny Sings, Billy Lemos, Roy Blair, Ritt Momney, Magdalena Bay, RAC, Maria Isabel, Kllo, Maude Latour, Chloe Lilac, MILK, Marcos G, Jelani Aryeh, Brandon Banks and more. Danny's music has been featured in playlists such as Spotify's Lorem, Mellow Morning, Mellow Mood, Fresh Finds and Alternative R&B and Apple's INDIY, Day One and more. Danny has also received press from outlets such as Pigeons & Planes, OnesToWatch and Office amongst others. Mortal Kombat" is the fifth single off the anti-pop artist and producer's upcoming debut double EP, Losers, an emotional portrayal of liberated youth. The EP is a love letter and a goodbye note to his rural stomping grounds of the Midwest. "I used to feel the need to exploit as much as possible from any opportunity," Danny says of the way LA twisted him. "Now I want to work on my bike and make sense of where I come from and where I am. All of these things I've compartmentalized for so long are now colliding." The result is a collection of coming-of-age songs that have one foot in Friday Night Lights and another in Harmony Korine's Kids. Interview with EDEN

We had the pleasure of interviewing EDEN over Zoom video! Singer, songwriter, and producer, EDEN shares his latest full-length album ICYMI. The project is a sonic odyssey through loss and life, dovetailed by EDEN's effortless welding of genres between electronic, R&B, and something else entirely his own. ICYMI deftly weaves between euphoric dance beats, ambient field recordings, and an unshakeable sense of urgency as EDEN catapults towards catharsis. ICYMI is experimental in both its sound and its creation, and EDEN's acute conceptual grasp on the project is evident. Over the 11-tracks, EDEN flexes masterful production and intimate songwriting with both echoing synths and thought-provoking lyrics that echo long after listening. ICYMI is EDEN's first full-length release since his most recent album, no future (2020). After clocking in at No. 26 on the US Billboard charts with no future, EDEN returns with the eagerly-awaited and highly-ambitious ICYMI. He has released 4 EP's along with debut album vertigo (2018) which peaked at No. 34 on the US Billboard charts. A producer, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, EDEN (real name Jonathon Ng) is a musical tour de force. Most of the Dublin-based artist's work is self-produced and recorded in his London at-home studio. ICYMI boasts that all songs were "written, recorded, performed, and produced by Jonathon Ng in Dublin, London, Miami, Cancun, and Los Angeles," with the exception of a few instrumental/vocal contributions. EDEN has been sampled by Meek Mill, and has released projects with rappers Vic Mensa and ATO, and producers Kai Whiston and Ryan Hemsworth. An innovative and well-respected influence across genres, EDEN has been cited as an influence to emerging hyperpop artists Ericdoa and Underscores as well as producer Claire Rousay. We had the pleasure of interviewing Giolì & Assia over Zoom video. Hailing from Palermo, Italy, Giolì & Assia are instrumentalists, singer/songwriters, DJs and label owners, who create beautiful genre-less & hypnotic music, playing every instrument and producing completely on their own, crossing the lines between house, indie, and ambient. On September 9th they released Fire, Hell and Holy Water via Ultra Records, the band's biggest body of work to date, a 16 track labor of love recording during challenging times of the pandemic. The record documents the girls' turbulent and intense highs and lows as a couple, and the health problems and untimely losses of relatives during the pandemic. Referencing a plethora of major sonic influences the pair cite London Grammar, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Labyrinth's Euphoria score, and U2 as just a few of the many formative inspirations on their landmark forthcoming album. Members of the LGBTQ+ community, Assia discovered Gioli via YouTube, where videos of Gioli playing drums went viral, and they connected over social media. Interview with Stratovarius

We had the pleasure of interviewing Stratovarius over Zoom video. Stratovarius released Survive, their first album in seven years. Stratovarius — the Scandinavian flagship of symphonic metal and one of the most famous bands of their genre — managed to establish themselves as one of the top names in the metal scene and have since influenced bands all over the world. The Finnish band gained international success with albums like Fourth Dimension (1995), Episode (1996), and their epic project Elements, Pt. 1 (a peak in their progressive and symphonic style of power metal) and Elements, Pt.2, to name just a few of the band's milestones. In 2009, Polaris marked a fresh start for the band as guitarist and band leader Timo Tolkki left the band. Instead of being a difficult re-start, Polaris showed Stratovarius in top form and perfectly able to captivate. The album became a hell of a comeback and charted higher than previous releases around the globe. Interview with EMINZADA

We had the pleasure of interviewing EMINZADA over Zoom video. Singer/songwriter EMINZADA is a multi-dimensional artist with an exclusive style and powerful mindset. Originally from Baku City, Azerbaijan, EMINZADA has grown up with diversity in abundance, living between Azerbaijan, Turkey and the US, before making his move to London. Paying homage to his classical background in music composition, his music explores notions of camp, lust and escapism, representing freedom of art expression and his homeland's musical culture and futurism, with his Azerbaijani heritage beaming proudly throughout. Following the success of his recent singles, EMINZADA is back with his latest endeavour "Sociopath", an alternative pop tune with an Azerbaijani touch. Taking inspiration from Aziza Mustafazadeh; whose phenomenal job both compositionally and performance wise fuelled EMINZADA's ambition to fuse vintage Azerbaijani classics with modern melodic embellishments; the chord progression for "Sociopath" was born. EMINZADA's support for the disabled LGBTQIA+ community continues to be at focal point of his work, casting a brighter light on artist's who have experienced adversity in their life, and had a hard time finding their place within their community. The London based artist is not just an advocate and an ally for this community, but a part of it, as he manages a disability himself in the form of Pectus Excavatum; a disability that for singers in particular can be a devastating hindrance. Unapologetically himself, EMINZADA always felt as though he didn't fit in with society's standards of male beauty, however has empowered himself and others to stand out and stand up for themselves, overcoming both physical and emotional hurdles. Amassing close to half a million followers on Instagram and counting and with praise from the likes of Wonderland Magazine and NOTION, the Azerbaijan born artist is thriving in more ways than one. Setting his sights high, EMINZADA is planning to open a non-profit organization called "Emin Eminzada Foundation", aiming to help musical artists achieve their goals, alongside releasing his upcoming EP. If his recent work is anything to go by, EMINZADA is heading to the top of everyone's to watch list for 2022 and beyond! We want to hear from you! Interview with ari hicks

We had the pleasure of interviewing ari hicks over Zoom video. ari's furious feminist energy is palpable, flaunting her genre-spanning style as she ricochets between themes of empowerment and bravado, giving listeners a first glance at ari entering her Villain Era as she pays homage to the death of a male centric narrative. Showcasing a different dimension of the pop singer, this Chapter acts as the start of her newest era. Featuring three brand new tracks as well as familiar favorites "Romeo Dies", "Sucker", "Shut Up" and "Look Pretty". We start off with the self-assertive pop anthem "Two Sides" followed by "Pull your Tooth" and "Jaded", giving the euphoric darker sound and get-under-your-skin lyrics to end the chapter on an edgier note, offering listeners a more haunting glimpse into Chapter 2. "It's Not That Deep: Chapter 1 follows ari hicks's 2020 Kiss Me, Kill Me EP, which introduced the world to her halloween hit "Kiss Me, Kill Me" Since then, the dark pop siren has firmly proved herself as a top artist to watch this year. Reigning as a Live Nation's "Ones to Watch 2022" with nearly 200k TikTok followers and earning acclaim from the likes of Wonderland, Vogue, ALT Press and many more. Consider this an honest and bold storybook about unapologetically stepping into your power, It's Not That Deep is an all encompassing soundtrack of entering your Villain Era. Each Chapter a collage of stories and experiences that were derived to hone in on the concept of reclaiming your power. On the release, ari confides, "Chapter 1: My forthcoming album "It's Not That Deep" is an all encompassing soundtrack of entering your Villain Era. Each Chapter a collage of stories and experiences that were derived to hone in on the concept of reclaiming your power. Chapter 1 really embodies a lighter energy, its a little petty, a little savage but its FUN. It's tapping into your feminine energy and taking these cookie cutter stories and giving them a bit of a plot twist, because why shouldn't girls have their fun? Sonically and visually I aligned and designed each of these tracks with main character energy (hence why they all have an actual character). These tracks are for the brats, the girls that feel silenced, the ones that are entering their villain era selflessly or selfishly - I want this Chapter to be the voice for that."
