Interview with Beau Nair
We had the pleasure of interviewing Beau Nair over Zoom video! Beau Nair is not your run of the mill Country artist. At an early age he mastered the bass guitar and decided that he was going to bring something to country music that it had always sorely lacked: FUNK. In marrying the two genres, Beau Nair created Funktry, a style to unify his sweet melodies and saucy lyrics with a groove so deep it'll leave marks on your sphincter. Born to a pair of dope smugglers in a seedy motel along Highway 66, Beau Nair was an outlaw on the run from an early age, living a nomadic lifestyle that saw him travel throughout the Southern States of America throughout his childhood. At a young age Beau discovered legendary country singer Jim Reeves when he heard his music playing from the backroom of a New Orleans brothel while his Pappy was getting his weekly tune up. It was on this day in the Crescent City that Beau found his calling: to become the greatest country superstar the world had ever known. As Beau traveled the highways of America, he spent his formative years in Honky Tonks, saloons and pool halls soaking up all the glorious 45's their jukeboxes could spin. Beau soon mastered the bass guitar and later began learning boogie woogie piano from the best of the barrelhouse badasses he encountered. As the years went on, Beau became an underground sensation on a multitude of local country scenes as he continued to criss cross America, jamming and performing wherever and with whoever he could. Years later, on one fateful tour to California, Beau Nair ate what Bill Hicks would refer to as a "heroic" dose of mushrooms and squeegeed his third eye. In a year's time- and with copious doobies in hand- Beau created over a hundred of the sauciest, juiciest tunes your jukebox had ever been penetrated by. This music poured forth like a torrent of twangy funk, giving Beau a big burst of booty-shaking tunes. With the release of this new music, Beau Nair is ready to change the worlds perception of country music with his unique style of Funktry. We want to hear from you! Interview with Elena Erin
We had the pleasure of interviewing Elena Erin over Zoom video! Elena Erin, an artist who has previously reached #2 on CBC Radio's Top 20 Countdown, landed on major editorial playlists (New Music Friday Canada/Fresh Finds), and has garnered over a million streams on various platforms; is ready to reach new audiences. A single off her debut album, Holy Tender Artist, "Almost Famous" lends itself to the overarching storyline. Holy Tender Artist shines the spotlight on Elena Erin: a small-town Canadian girl, with big-city dreams, exploring abroad, finding romance, and enjoying the journey to self-discovery. This album is highlighted by royalty, sex, exploration, vulnerability, and in-your-face New York style of storytelling from her time there. From homeschooled on a farm in Canada to a socialite between New York City and London, Elena is telling these stories by being unapologetically herself. MORE INFO: Hailing from northern Canada, Elena has been paving her own way into the entertainment world since she began playing classical piano at the age of 6. Growing up on a cattle farm she began songwriting behind closed doors at 10 years old, but never sang because she thought she wasn't capable. All of this led to her studies of music business and songwriting at Berklee College of Music, with the intention of writing for other singles. "While in a studio session in New York in 2016, I sang on a demo and the producers decided to keep my voice on the track, saying I had a unique voice and should sing my own songs." It was from that moment that Elena I began singing her own music, and released her first singles in 2018, which landed on New Music Friday Canada and other major playlists. She spent the next few years perfecting her craft and performing often in New York at private events and live shows in Brooklyn and the Lower East Side. All the songs for her debut album, Holy Tender Artist, were written during the pandemic; where her days were completely consumed in writing, reading, and visualizing the themes. After gaining experience from performing throughout New York, Elena decided to move to London on 2 months notice and catapult herself into her next level of creativity while writing her best music yet. Interview with Liddy Clark
We had the pleasure of interviewing Liddy Clark over Zoom video! There's a word that comes up whenever Liddy Clark talks about her music – "connection." Currently based in Los Angeles, the Plano, Texas native relocated with her family to South Florida (Parkland), just before first grade. This was a pivotal move for Liddy, as theatre is very important in the area and the move put her in a position to grow up on the stage. Inspired by artistic family members like her cousin, Drew Womack (formerly Sons of the Desert and writer of Kenny Chesney's first number one hit "She's Got it All"), she amassed the resume of a seasoned entertainer. During her last summer in high school Liddy won a scholarship to join the esteemed Berklee Five Week Summer Program, additionally earning a spot on the coveted Performer Singer-Songwriter Showcase and praise from professors like famed singer-songwriter Melissa Ferrick. But even as she began fronting her own band at 15 – opening for major artists like Scotty McCreery and performing for major radio stations in South Florida – she was searching for something deeper than fame or fortune. Out of the gate, Clark was finding connection through tender, personal lyricism, earning praise from heavyweights like Garth Brooks after seeing Liddy perform at the iHeart Country Music Summit in 2017. In 2018, Liddy contributed a mystical rendition of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" to the Cracker Barrel exclusive Country Faith Christmas, Vol. 2, joining the likes of Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini, Darius Rucker and Brenda Lee on the album's track list. She went on to win a songwriting scholarship with former Senior Vice President of Creative at Warner Chappell Music, Judy Stakee (Katy Perry, Sheryl Crow, and Gavin DeGraw) who quickly identified Clark's talent and invited her to a songwriting retreat in New York's Catskill Mountains. In 2018 the tragic school shooting in Clark's hometown of Parkland, Florida, gave her a sense of clarity about her mission. By then, a freshman at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music, she knew many of the families affected, and indeed, her own family still lived just a few blocks from the school. Later that year she was invited to perform at Parkland's Wear Orange gun-violence awareness event. Clark delivered the emotional anthem she had written the week prior at the Catskill Mountain retreat "Shot Down (Stand Up)," boldly speaking truth to power and voicing the concerns of her peers. "This problem has answers that won't be found / If every time we try to stand up, we get shot down," Liddy has a brand new single, "Potential," out now with plans for a full album out later this year. Interview with Gable Price and Friends
We had the pleasure of interviewing Gable Price and Friends over Zoom video! "Ever since I was young, I lived with an overarching fear that the thing I was presently enjoying would lose its desired effect and fade away," remembers songwriter and frontman of the exuberant rock outfit Gable Price and Friends, Gable Price. "When our band started and began to gain momentum, it wasn't long before I slipped into the thought of 'What happens when this loses its steam?'" Eventually, Price came to grips with those obsessive thoughts and like any songwriter worth their weight, set it to music as the opening track, "Upside", off the band's new album The Consequence Of Being Alive—out now via Capitol CMG. With the release of The Consequence Of Being Alive, the band is redefining who Gable Price and Friends is. With a more indie-rock sound and songs that are less spiritual and more personal to Price's life, The Consequence Of Being Alive is a lesson in forging a new path. It doesn't hurt that there are some killer album credits, too. Gable's friend and mentor Jon Foreman (Switchfoot) is a featured artist on track #8 "How It Sets You Free," which they co-wrote together with Tim Foreman. Other noteworthy writing credits include Judah Akers (Judah & the Lion) on "I Don't Wanna Live Like This" and Caleb Chapman (Colony House) on "Tough Love." Gable Price and Friends know how to deliver songs that reverberate in our hearts and souls; Price's vocal phrasing matches the emotional tenor of every song perfectly, getting inside the lyrics, dwelling in them, and then singing them with the passion of one who's lived with the joy and pain they express. The songs on The Consequence Of Being Alive showcase the band's lyrical and musical genius, providing a soundtrack to the emotional highs and lows of our everyday lives. Gable Price and Friends is a 4-piece alternative rock and roll band, with a whole lot of damage to do and a whole lot of cities to play. Currently residing in Northern California; 3 Midwest boys and a Californian—Gable Price, Cameron Pablo, Daniel Vargas, and Adam Elizararraz—continue to gain ground, turn heads and provide a euphoric live and recorded experience. From recording their demos in a garage, and Gables 1977 Camper van: "The Dreamboat," to recently signing with Capitol CMG, the boys have no intention of slowing down anytime soon. Gable Price and Friends are known for sentimental, provocative lyrics regarding the human condition, screaming guitars and bass, with driving drums that make you wanna get a speeding ticket. This group of 20-somethings is eager for the public to hear their new record and excited to share the songs with a group of sweaty people in a venue somewhere, sometime. Keep your head straight, hopes up, heart right; and remember to be a good friend. We want to hear from you! Interview with BEGINNERS
We had the pleasure of interviewing BEGINNERS over Zoom video! Difficult times can make or break people. As a society, we've been going through doomsday fatigue, whether since the pandemic started, the Trump administration took office, or before that even. Some people have been struggling more than others for a long time. On top of it all, the rent is too damn high, our rights are falling away, the world is on fire (literally and figuratively), and it feels like everything is entirely out of control. The tiniest thing could be that last straw that separates any of us from our sanity. For BEGINNERS, the alt-pop project of L.A.-based Samantha Barbera, one way to deal with those feelings of despair made itself abundantly clear: say f*ck it. The extra indignant sting on top of everything inspired almost a superhero origin story, whether she's the hero or an agent of chaos to be seen. In addition to all that, Barbera went through a breakup during what felt like the implosion of the world we'd known while watching her rights as a queer woman shrink. Instead of imploding, she got into the studio. And that's how BEGINNERS' If the World Is Ending EP was conceived: as an explosion. Barbera is always writing songs, and putting this record together came after a steady stream of collaborations in studios all over the West Coast. The lead single, "I Hate That I Love Brooklyn," is a raucous anthem full of spikey punk rock guitar that represents the spikey feeling of a toxic relationship—with a person, with the news, with a whole damn city or country. The song started with a hat. No, literally. Producer/Artist and frequent collaborator Matias Mora (K. Flay, Broods, Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn,) had a blinged-out hat with the word Brooklyn on it and convinced everyone that it had to be where the song was set. For Barbera, collaboration is the key to success. She co-produced and co-wrote all of the songs, but those intimate moments of sharing her personal stories with her collaborators helped tap into a sense of connection that brings her art to life. Over eight months, the World is Ending EP was written and recorded in various home studios. BEGINNERS is a DIY project with punk roots spanning multiple scenes and genres. It has always been fully independent with no record label or advances, but with those all-important master rights and creative control. The project has seen massive success in the world of music syncs. Disney used the song "Start a Riot" in the trailer for the 2021animated feature Raya and the Last Dragon. It promoted outreach and interest from new fans worldwide who searched the song on the internet and commented en masse. Apple also tapped BEGINNERS for three ad campaigns, and New Balance had the band perform in a commercial alongside a slew of famous women Olympic athletes. The music has also been played in ads from Target, Samsung, and Adobe, plus in numerous shows including The Walking Dead, The L Word, and the Netflix series Money Heist and Elite. In Netflix's Sex/Life, the band got a name drop and a full, two-minute-long dance scene—an unheard-of placement. We want to hear from you! Interview with Jessica Lowndes
We had the pleasure of interviewing Jessica Lowndes over Zoom video! Canadian multi-hyphenate and CW 90210 star Jessica Lowndes has released her visual album, "ELEMENTAL." Using the four basic elements of nature—earth, water, air, and fire— Jessica explores the journey of love, loss, redemption and self-forgiveness, in this spicy back-and-forth tale. The narrative is told via 7 chapters and is her directorial debut. Jessica has always created her own path with her ground-breaking acting, captivating sounds, and songwriting talents. She is an internationally renowned music, TV, and film star. With everything shut down, there was no better time to finish the visual LP "ELEMENTAL," which the multihyphenate started working on during the pandemic. The 30-minute visual album tells Jessica's vivacious tale via 7 chapters. She uses the four basic elements of nature—earth, water, air, and fire—to represent the many emotions in the stories she recounts. As she explores the journey of love, loss, redemption, and self-forgiveness, Jessica's production has developed into a spicey back-and-forth. Jessica uses her considerable storytelling abilities to sort through the weight of searching for love, romantic uncertainty and rediscovering self, throughout the entire project. In the first single from the album, Jessica is a wanderer looking for love in "Hunter," and she follows the path of the celestial bodies to guide her on the journey while holding onto hope. She mentions someone warning her about who she gives her heart to, and now she is in love with a man she describes as a thief in the night, and the singer is being hunted by her lover. In the second single, the element of earth is highlighted in "Bitter End" because we see her going through an earthquake in her relationship. The third single, "Lost Love," Jessica expresses her deep feelings for a man she now refers to as "her one and only." She is torn between whether she is truly in love with this man and whether they are reuniting due to loneliness. In "Chasing Ghosts," Lowndes explores a haunting melody, dark and moody cinematic production, and leans into her iconic climactic builds. Charging with electricity, "Chasing Ghosts" is musical lightning in a bottle. The song features vibrant synths, quick drum lines, and rich bass. Her singles released in 2022 have been featured by The Hype Magazine, EARMILK, EXTRA, Ok Magazine, E! Online, Us Weekly and KTLA-TV in Los Angeles. We want to hear from you! Interview with Elle Winter
We had the pleasure of interviewing Elle Winter over Zoom video! Known for her heartfelt songwriting style that has allowed her to connect with over 20 million people across streaming platforms, Elle Winter has been making waves in the music world even back in her teen years, being discovered by Radio Disney's "Next Big Thing." Previously touring with Chloe x Halle and performing on prominent stages ranging from the Today Show to KIIS-FM's Jingle Ball, Elle is currently working with Album of the Year winning producers Autumn Rowe and Kizzo, and recently released her latest single, "Help"! "Help" comes on the heels of a turning point in Elle's life, as growing up under the pressures of the entertainment industry led to her living in fear of asking for support or sharing when she was struggling. After moving back to LA, Elle made the decision to start a new chapter in her life where she can find strength and power in vulnerability, putting herself first. Elle is looking forward to all that is to come, both as an artist and a University of Pennsylvania student—see below for more on Elle and her upcoming projects. Born and raised in New York City, Elle took to music at a very young age. She was discovered by Radio Disney at age 14 and took part in their "Next Big Thing" program which included the release of several singles and a national tour in which she began building a fanbase. As Elle made her way through high school, she continued pursuing her music career along with acting. She worked on new songs and independently released the single "One More" in 2018. A radio tour followed, as well as spots on The TODAY Show and the honorifics of being named Elvis Duran's Artist of the Month, as well as KIIS FM's Next Up Artist. In 2019, during her freshman year at the University of Pennsylvania, Elle signed with Sony Music's The Orchard (previously RED MUSIC) off the strength of her forthcoming EP. On a majority of the EP's tracks, Elle worked with production team The Orphanage, who has notched credits on recent albums from Demi Lovato and Alessia Cara and has given Elle's music the unique pop flavor it possesses. Elle's new body of work is produced by Grammy award winning producer Kizzo ("We Are") and co-written with Elle by Grammy award winning songwriter Autumn Rowe ("We Are") and the legendary Jeff Barry ("Be My Baby", "River Deep Mountain High"). Interview with DYLYN
We had the pleasure of interviewing DYLYN over Zoom video! Born Gwendolyn Lewis, DYLYN's recent single, "Liberate Me" highlights the singer's ability to confluence eras, styles, and emotions all into one. Her debut LP, The Sixty90s, an homage to the grit of the 90s and the warmth of the 60s. The 13-track debut record features the most recent singles "Skin and Bone," "Liar," "Hellbound," "Hurt," "Bring On The Blues," "Liberate Me" and the newest single, "What A Ride." The Sixty90s cements DYLYN's vision of a confluence of eras, styles, and emotions colliding, fusing moments of elation, agony, ecstasy, and triumph into an anachronistic symphony of indie-pop melodies, industrial-inflected heavy rock, and anthemic alternative. With the help of producers Ryan Guldemond (of Mother Mother) and Parker Bossley (bassist for The Mounties, Hot Hot Heat) we see her momentum come to life. "I'm referencing two of my favorite eras, it's not confined or boxed into one or the other. The fusion revealed itself as the songwriting and production developed. It naturally took on a darker vintage yet futuristic edge" shares Gwen. We want to hear from you!
