Interview with Alicia Creti
We had the pleasure of interviewing Alicia Creti over Zoom video!R&B/pop sensation, Alicia Creti, recently released her latest single, “Strange.”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbBuTXSqv20Alicia Creti absorbs the highs and lows of life in her music, rolling with the ups and downs and genuinely embracing both. As such, the Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and pianist holds nothing back when she sings, amplifying her emotions through a distinct and dynamic delivery. Hailing from the suburbs of Montreal, Creti started to sing at barely three-years-old and hasn’t stopped since. Inspired by artists such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Brandy, and Stevie Wonder, she began penning songs of her own by the age of six and soon developed chops on both the piano and on the microphone, taking advantage of every opportunity to perform, whether it be at school or in the street. In 2020, Creti – who always managed to find the time to look out for her autistic younger brother – began posting on social media and immediately achieved viral impact with a soulful rendition of Summer Walker’s “Session 32,” followed by covers of Kehlani, Jazmine Sullivan, and Ari Lennox that were viewed by more than 6 million views around the world. Linking up with Amisha Sarkar of TRST. RCRDS, Creti released her debut original single, “Congratulations,” in 2022, reaping over 3 million global streams and critical applause as “a flawless masterpiece” from Lyrical Lemonade. Boasting co-signs from such like-minded artists as Summer Walker, Kehlani, Sam Smith, Lil Nas X, Ty Dolla $ign, and Keri Hilson, among others, Creti’s star has continued to ascend in 2023. A recent cover of Beyonce’s “Cuff It” garnered close to 2 million views on TikTok and Instagram Reels, while a tender acoustic rendition of “Congratulations” over 500K combined views and has led to more than 25K new followers on Instagram. Elegant with an edge, strong but sensitive, and humbly confident, Creti crafts her own story of self-reflection, heartbreak, and the other facets of the human experience, not unlike a page out of her journal. Now, with Self/Less and more new music to follow, Alicia Creti is poised to show the world not only how far she’s has come but where she’s headed next. “I tend to think in song,” says Creti. “I write from the heart. I’m a very sensitive and emotional person, but I like to put on a tough shell. The music is where the honesty comes out.”We want to hear from you! Interview with EMM
We had the pleasure of interviewing EMM over Zoom video!Self-made instrumentalist, producer and songwriter, EMM, is merging Phonk and Pop for the release of her new single “LOZER” (With a Z). Over the years, EMM has built a reputation for creating music that showcases a woman’s unapologetic power in a world that constantly tries to diminish it; and this song speaks to that. Written by EMM, “LOZER” (With a Z), most simply put, is about losing fear of what others think. She elaborates “I've never really fit in, and I've had to learn to accept myself as I am. The song is funny and lighthearted ("I heard she used to sniff sharpies") and self deprecating ("I'm such a fucking loser"), but at the same time also recognizing the empowerment in self acceptance ("I love the way I am cause I'm a God damn star").” The accompanying lyric video plays into the “Lozer” theme in the most outrageous way possible, with EMM making light of the dark lyrics while dancing around naked. Produced by Jason Mater, who has had extensive success in the sync world with Disney/Marvel, EMM made sure her current inspiration of Phonk was combined with her typical Pop sound.2023 is set to be the most epic year yet for EMM, as she gears up for a performance at The Roxy in Los Angeles on July 12th; along with her secret project, GENESIS, dropping in a few months. GENESIS is a two piece documentary and live performance that highlights what women go through in music, and dives into tough topics like sexual abuse in the music business. Like a true alchemist, EMM has turned the things that the industry and the world saw as an inconvenience- her vision, her strong opinions, her power, and her honesty - into her superpowers. EMM has spent the last few years building on her massive catalog of music, which includes her trilogy of mixtapes, EMERALD (2019), RUBY (2020), and SAPPHIRE (2021). Garnering over 100 million independent streams on Spotify and over 5 million views on YouTube; “The Trilogy” allows you to explore EMM’s self-conceived universe. As an artist who sheds light on topics that most females in the industry are scared to touch, going viral is almost second nature to EMM. Much like Lady Gaga in the past, some of EMM’s performance art pieces tend to be misunderstood. Even though her live performance of “END” went viral on TikTok with over 1M views, YouTube flagged it as “gore” due to the nature of the video.Hailing from a small town in Michigan, and later moving around; EMM spent years struggling in New York City and Los Angeles, sometimes working 3 jobs at a time, including cleaning frat houses, fighting tooth and nail to find ways to share her music with the world. Although it hasn’t been an easy road, EMM’s perseverance has worked all the way up to building a profitable 7 figure business that she owns 100% of and uses to self-fund her career. Her universe is expanding rapidly in 2023-2024 via her incredible and theatrical live show, and multiple other verticals that will be announced soon. She is the definition of a thriving independent artist: calling all the shots in her own career, making her visions come to life, having a hand in every sonic choice and every melody you hear, betting on herself, and standing up for what she believes in most. EMM is a force - And she’s just getting started. We want to hear from you! Interview with Christian Lopez
We had the pleasure of interviewing Christian Lopez over Zoom video!Christian Lopez has shared his new album, Magdalena, his fourth full-length studio album along with a brand new video for the song “Harper’s Ferry.” “As I get older, my only goal is leaving behind the purest form of what I can do and give,” shares Lopez. “This album is just that.. no frills, no cowrites, no studio band, no compromises.. Just me.” Magdalena is a personal journey shared through song where Lopez looks inward and shares stories of love, loss and everything in between.About Christian Lopez:Christian Lopez is an artist who puts all of his eggs in one basket. The devoted singer-songwriter spent the last 2 years in a tiny New Mexican town called, Magdalena, writing and recording in a small adobe casita, on a mission to conjure the purest sounds and songs from the deepest depths of himself. With the help of producer, Robert Adam Stevenson, who also produced Lopez’s last project The Other Side (2021), and drummer Carl Thomson, Christian delivers a new full-length album laced with some of Lopez’s hardest, most joyful, and most spiritual songs to date. Lopez’s work was interrupted in April 2022 when his little brother tragically overdosed on fentanyl in his hometown of Martinsburg, West Virginia. Heartbroken, Lopez shifted his outlook to focus on one mission: “to leave something real behind.. “.. Magdalena, his fourth full-length album, is just that, with the representation of Lopez’s constantly altering state, his acoustic guitar playing, soaring vocals, and songs that focus less on a hook and more about hooking you to a feeling. You could say Christian Lopez has come a long way since his 2014 Dave Cobb produced debut, but now age 27, he’s truly just getting started. We want to hear from you! Interview with Hunter Blair Ambrose
We had the pleasure of interviewing Hunter Blair Ambrose over Zoom video!LA-based singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, Hunter Blair Ambrose, has released her single “Runaway,” today. Co-written by Hunter, “Runaway” is a dance-pop track written from the perspective of someone letting go of their past traumas and regrets to start anew. The title “Runaway” refers to running away from one’s past, but also running away from the vulnerability that new experiences and love forces us into. Hunter elaborates; “I recently made a huge change in my life, moving cross country from New York to Los Angeles, and this song is fully inspired by that. Taking a chance on a new chapter, being afraid of all the possibilities of starting your life over. I know that moving across the country meant I’d have a fresh start when it comes to everything, new relationships, new friendships, new work opportunities, a new beginning.”“Runaway” features an emotive vocal performance with danceable, electric production that echoes a retro 1980s synth pop influence with modern touches. “Runaway” showcases Hunter’s innate ability to craft personal narratives into a synth-pop 1980’s inspired hybrid. She sonically drew inspiration from The Weeknd’s album Dawn FM, but also synth-pop songs with 1980s production influences from artists like Majid Jordan, Zara Larsson, and SG Lewis. “Runaway” has a four on the floor dance beat, with an explosive chorus inspired by melodies and vocal stylings from Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. Additionally, the single’s lyrics tell the story of someone losing themselves in music as an escape, but also fearing what could happen if they open themselves up to love again. Hailing from New York, and currently residing in Los Angeles, Hunter Blair Ambrose began to display a profound love for the performing arts from her earliest years, starting at just 5 years old. What started as singing and studying music, turned into formal vocal lessons, piano training, and continuing to study music and theater through grade school, high school, and college. Hunter’s professional career in pop began at 17 years old under the mentorship of Grammy Award-winning producer, Narada Michael Walden. After recording and co-writing her first tracks as a solo artist with Narada from 2013-2014, Hunter attended the Berklee College of Music. While studying there, she met several producers, writers, and engineers, eventually forming a core team to create her first studio EP and album Scorpio Rising (2020) and Scorpio Season (2021). The lead single, “November” went on to become a viral hit and featured an interpolated sample of Lady Gaga’s 2010 hit “Alejandro.” Inspired by the likes of Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Rosalia, Rihanna; Hunter relates to artists who put an effort into stylized content that correlates with their art. Blending illustrious production with often visceral lyrics to bring her audience into her artistic universe; Hunter is known for her powerful vocals, vast range, and provocative visuals to her artistry. “As I’ve moved through my life, I have amassed various life experiences and have gained many new artistic influences which all come together to affect my songwriting and style of music I create. As I’ve evolved as a human being, so has my art. With every release, I reflect where I am at any present moment in time through my music.” - Hunter Blair AmbroseWe want to hear from you! As the two Bicketts enter a timelapse in the diner, the past and present versions of her merge to take her 23-year-old obstacles head-on. His storied acting and music career spans over a decade starring in dozens of TV shows and movies including Teen Wolf and Truth or Dare, as well as being a member of multiple bands including PVMNTS and Five North. In 2020, Posey decided to take a big step in his music career by becoming a solo artist.Standing alone in the spotlight for the first time has been freeing in more ways than one, least of all when it comes to his courage to open up about the hell that was 2020. The early days of the COVID pandemic were particularly pronounced for him, exacerbating deep-rooted anxiety, depression and childhood trauma that manifested in a self-destructive pattern of drug and alcohol abuse. Left to his own devices while quarantine orders ruled Los Angeles, life inside Posey’s home became a dangerous cycle of isolation and intoxication. This new chapter of Posey’s career sets off a powder keg of personal reflection and growth, grounded by his elastic voice, juxtaposing a devil-may-care growl and smooth-throated pop-punk sheen.hellofresh.com/backwards50Promo Code: backwards50We want to hear from you! Interview with Ron Pope
We had the pleasure of interviewing Ron Pope over Zoom video!Ron Pope is a Nashville-based, critically-acclaimed, fiercely independent, platinum recording. Ron’s music has been streamed billions of times, and it’s been featured on tv shows like “90120,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” and more. Recently, his song “A Drop In The Ocean,” which became an enduring fan favorite after it was featured in “Vampire Diaries,” went viral on TikTok, introducing it to a whole new set of young fans. Ron’s new LP, Inside Voices, out now via Brooklyn Basement Records, is a 10-track gut-puncher - the rawest, most vulnerable, stripped-down set of songs he’s ever recorded. The album was created in the wake of back-to-back tragedies in Ron's family - his wife, Blair, had lost a pregnancy; her next was diagnosed as ectopic, which almost took her life. The Pope family was in an extremely dark place. To find some sense of normalcy, Ron packed up Blair and their young daughter and took a trip to the beach. It was a life-giving experience after so much heartbreak. Ron, who hadn’t been able to write a song in a year during this period, was able to tap back into his creativity, and 75 or more songs poured out of him. In the midst of the writing process, Ron lost his beloved grandparents within eight days of each other; their 60+ year marriage was an inspiration to him, and also inspired several of the songs on the record. He decided he wanted to record the album in a secluded place by the water, with his family close by - his normal studio grind of 18-hour days locked away from them was no longer a viable option. Ron found the perfect spot by the tranquil waters of the Peconic Bay in a rural area on Long Island, NY. He and his friend/longtime collaborator, Paul Hammer, set about the painstaking process of setting up a studio, recording, engineering, and playing all of the instruments themselves in their cottage by the sea.The album, born from tragedy and a major dose of perspective, is a realization that true, lasting love is an action, a choice you make every single day. Inside Voices is the sound of a man stripped bare, broken down, and rebuilt. It shows Ron Pope at the height of his prowess - a writer speaking with honesty, vulnerability, and ultimately, gratitude.hellofresh.com/backwards50Promo Code: backwards50We want to hear from you!
