Interview with Arrows in Action
We had the pleasure of interviewing Arrows in Action over Zoom video!Arrows in Action recently release their DEBUT album, Built to Last! The three-piece was formed in Gainesville, FL in 2017 and has since quickly become a band to watch within the pop-rock scene. Built to Last chronicles a coming of age story that brings listeners on a rollercoaster of emotions and conflicts that you encounter as you try to find your place in the world. Produced and mixed by longtime collaborator Dan Swank, the record is filled with a swirling blend of angular indie-rock, ‘80s electric sheen, and saccharine alt-pop with emotive lyrics that tackle life’s growing pains such as heartbreak, backstabbing, nostalgia and regret.Life has been the band’s biggest teacher, and one of the biggest lessons they’ve learned is that life is constantly changing, but as long as you have people around you that support you, you’ll make it through whatever life decides to throw at you. With their incredibly loyal fanbase both on and off TikTok, they’ve built a supportive, tight-knit community that is ready to join them for the long haul. This record is just the beginning for Arrows in Action. With Built to Last, the trio cements their place in the scene and prove they’re here stay and dare we say… built to last? Interview with Jules Paymer
We had the pleasure of interviewing Jules Paymer over Zoom video!Jules Paymer recently released their single and music video for, "The Daughter That My Mother Wanted" featuring celebrated artist Miki Ratsula. The song and video touch upon the experience of being non-binary and queer and the difficulties that can arise with feeling like you don't belong or are letting your family down by being yourself. At the age of 7, Jules Paymer (they/them) found their love for music playing bass in a garage band in their hometown of Los Angeles, CA, alongside Lydia Night, the future star of “The Regrettes”. They soon learned guitar and piano, and by age 9, they were writing full songs. After finishing high school in LA, Jules moved to Nashville to hone their craft in a city they call ‘Songwriting Bootcamp’. They emerged with bold, lyric heavy songs with powerful themes and concepts exploring the world through new eyes.Coming out in 2018 at the age of 18, first to their friends, Jules wrestled with the nature of explaining their ‘status’ to their family. “Relationships and sex are difficult enough to speak about with family, let alone your preferences on those matters. I kept thinking, ‘Do I really have to make an announcement?’”Settling back in Los Angeles in the summer of 2022, Jules turned their attention to making friends, writing songs, and exploring their unique perspective through the prism of the modern music industry. Their original songs and song flips caught traction on social media, piquing the interest of artists including Fletcher, Noah Kahan, Joshua Bassett, and Royal and The Serpent. “Past Life,” a song about an ex who refused to acknowledge Jules’ pronouns after they came out as nonbinary, sparked contentious debate online, making Jules a target for both praise and hate speech.Jules kicked off their 2023 releases with “The Daughter That My Mother Wanted,” a collaboration with Miki Ratsula, followed by singles “Mommy Issues” and “Girls Will Be Boys,” culminating in their 5 track debut EP “Girls Will Be Boys” out now!We want to hear from you! Interview with Jeromes Dream
We had the pleasure of interviewing Jeromes Dream over Zoom video!San Francisco hardcore band Jeromes Dream — Erik Ratensperger( drums), Jeff Smith (bass, vocals), and Sean Leary (guitar) — released their new album and third full-length The Gray In Between via Iodine Recordings.Jeromes Dream share history with bands like Orchid, Saetia, Reversal of Man, and pageninetynine. The band existed between 1997 and 2001, then reformed in 2018. The Gray In Between introduces Leary (Loma Prieta) on guitar and was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Quicksand, Joyce Manor)."The entirety of The Gray In Between is a portrait of an absolutely unrelenting fear and anxiety that never seems to let up," Smith offers. "It is a journey inward. It is a reflection on ailment. It is therapeutic. It is a reminder to get out of bed every day even when it feels like there is no point. It is a reminder of the power that art and music hold. It is an inspiration. It is the embodiment of every emotion that runs through me every day."Smith continues, "In the darkest of times, we find joy — often with those who mean the most to us. While making The Gray in Between, I knew I could count on being with Erik and Sean every week. In the chaos of everyday life, the writing of this record was the north star that we could look to no matter how bad things seemed to get. We carved out a space that felt safe and the darkness of the world seemed to melt away as we holed up and wrote. I hope you'll find peace and inspiration as you experience this record, in your own way, with us."We want to hear from you! Interview with Tanith
We had the pleasure of interviewing Tanith over Zoom video!Formed in 2017, the band embraced that era wholeheartedly, resulting in 2019's aptly titled In Another Time, which instantly earned cult status and put them on the map. Now, they return with Voyage, picking up where they left off and once again demonstrating their mastery when it comes to this niche. "I wanted more of the same but different in some marginal way," explains vocalist/guitarist Russ Tippins (also of Satan). "Voyage is the sound of the universe speaking to mankind through the medium of Tanith. Or, if you like, twin-guitar heavy rock with dual singers which, if you grew up in the 1970s, will make you want to bounce over to the nearest record store. On a space hopper."While their debut came together easily, this time around there were hurdles to overcome, first and foremost the COVID-19 lockdown, which geographically split up the band, Tippins living in the UK while vocalist/bassist Cindy Maynard and drummer Keith Robinson dwelt in Brooklyn. Once life finally returned to "normal" and they were ready to record, they were hit by another bombshell with guitarist Charlie Newton abruptly bowing out of the band the day before tracking began."Speaking as one part of a two-guitar band, it felt like trying to fly with one wing," says Tippins. "It happened so suddenly we were dumbstruck. I guess we sat around for a few days thinking he was sure to walk through the door at any moment. But soon enough we realized we'd have to try to find a way to make this record without Charlie and I’m not just talking about laying down his lines. It’s about the shared dream we had with him. The conviction he brought to that dream. The four-way belief now reduced to three."Returning to Brooklyn's Excello Recording and engineer Hugh Pool — the same combination used for tracking In Another Time — the band produced the album themselves, with Pool mixing. The sessions were a fun time for Tanith, again recording to tape rather than digital and utilizing vintage amps and speakers to find the best possible sounds for the instruments. "Just having the time every day all day to be in the music was a big deal and all of our energy went into this project even after leaving the studio," says Maynard. "We were thinking and breathing the music, constantly working on parts and ideas. We came in well prepared overall, and that gave us time to try out different sounds for different parts to get just the thing we were looking for." Given that they established themselves as a twin-guitar band on their debut they also brought in an extra player, Andee Blacksugar, best known for touring with Peter Murphy and as a member of KMFDM, now also a member of Blondie, who Robinson had played with before. With the record fully realized, the band are eager for people to hear it, and they are confident that it is worth taking the time to listen to it — and experience it — in all its old school glory. Tippins says, "I can think of only two other rock bands in the entire world right now that records onto 24-track analog tape. If all you've ever known is digitally produced music you really need to listen to Voyage on vinyl and experience the difference. And I'm not talking about vinyl pressed from masters recorded on Pro Tools. At no point from tracking to pressing has any of the music on Voyage been digitized. It will open your eyes."We want to hear from you! Interview Peter Raffoul
We had the pleasure of interviewing Peter Raffoul over Zoom video! For Nashville-based singer/songwriter Peter Raffoul, songs often emerge late into the night, at an hour when inhibitions fall away and the most essential truths are laid bare. With a lyrical sensibility that merges intimate confession and boldly detailed storytelling, the Canada-born artist opens up about anxiety and isolation and the more complicated aspects of human connection, elegantly matching his moody intensity with a mercurial form of alt-rock/folk. Made with producers Owen Lewis (Old Sea Brigade, Maddie Medley) and Henry Brill (Phantogram, Jack Garratt), Raffoul’s debut body of work reveals his undeniable gift for transforming pain into beauty—an element endlessly magnified by the pure warmth and power of his voice.Originally from the small Ontario town of Leamington, Raffoul first embraced his stream-of-consciousness approach to songwriting in his late teens, when he spent countless hours teasing out songs in the clubhouse-like shed behind his family’s home. As the product of a highly musical family—his father Jody has played in rock bands for over three decades, his brother Billy is singer/songwriter signed to Interscope—Raffoul grew up immersed in the timeless records of the Beatles and Led Zeppelin and began exploring his own musicality by taking up piano at 17. “The music I’m making today really comes from all that time I spent in the shed over the years,” notes Raffoul, now 27. “It was always a world away from everything, where I could mess around with songs on this little keyboard and figure out how to put chords and melodies to all the lyrics I had in my head.” Before long, he’d added guitar to his repertoire and created a song called “Maybe I Do,” a bittersweet but radiant track slated for his forthcoming debut EP. “I was trying to paint a picture of the start of a relationship where the other person seems so perfect, you’re almost waiting for something to go wrong,” says Raffoul. “It felt melancholy and hopeful at the same time, and once I found that contrast I knew I wanted to keep writing more songs in that vein.”All throughout his debut, Raffoul builds a hypnotic tension between that raw emotionality and a wildly unpredictable sound informed by everything from late-’80s college rock to left-of-center hip-hop to the Beatles’ excursions into dreamy psychedelia. Among the EP’s standout tracks are his debut single “Fucked Up Together”: a gorgeously stripped-back piece centered on his delicate piano work, soulful vocals, and lyrics that speak to a deep longing to be understood. On “Cigarette Holes,” he spins a piercingly honest portrait of emotional chaos, upending the song’s heavy-hearted mood with brightly uptempo rhythms. Meanwhile, “Bad for Me” brings potent beats and prismatic textures to an unflinching meditation on cycles of self-destruction. “When you’re going through a breakup or any other hard time in life, sometimes it feels easier to do things that are bad for you, as a way to numb yourself,” says Raffoul, who co-wrote “Bad for Me” with Connor Thuotte and Kate York (Lady A, Caitlyn Smith). “We started riffing on that idea and Connor played a very simple chord progression on this junky little guitar he’d gotten for $5 at a yard sale, which we used on the final version—it was this magical moment where everything just came together so naturally.”True to the playful spontaneity and DIY spirit of its creation, Raffoul’s debut EP offers up plenty of idiosyncratic moments that intensify the unbridled energy of each track. To that end, the chorus to the gloriously frenetic “I Just Want to Be OK” takes the form of a cathartic outburst, a component he improvised in co-writing the song with his brother. And on “Call Me,” Raffoul shares an epic heart-on-sleeve ballad threaded with hauntingly stark and spellbinding piano melodies. “I wrote that song late at night in a hotel room and made a demo ...

Interview with Hollywood Undead (Hollywood Undead Returns!)
We had the pleasure of interviewing Hollywood Undead over Zoom video!Multi-platinum rap rock band Hollywood Undead shares the music video for “House of Mirrors” featuring multi-genre sensation Jelly Roll. Available exclusively on the digital version of Hotel Kalifornia Deluxe.Originally released in 2022, Hotel Kalifornia represents “a juxtaposition between the ‘haves’ and the ’have-nots,’ highlighting the ongoing homelessness and cost of living crisis that is affecting the band’s home state of California.” The album highlights the best aspects of what Hollywood Undead has become known for, garnering support from Revolver, SPIN, New Noise Magazine. Hotel Kalifornia also saw placements on genre playlists such as Spotify’s Rock Hard, Hard Rock & Rock Rotation, Apple Music’s Breaking Hard Rock & New in Rock, and Top 40 placement at US Rock & Active Rock Radio with the standout single “City Of The Dead.”ABOUT HOLLYWOOD UNDEADNot long after the turn of the century, a collective of friends congregated around a common vision bred in the gutters and back alleys of Hollywood, CA. Under the influence of everything from gritty nineties hip-hop to industrial metal (not to mention cheap booze), they climbed out of similar experiences in poverty and hardship and vaulted to the forefront of 21st century rock music on their own terms. To this day, Hollywood Undead hinges on the bond of five individuals who relay such raw experiences into relatable anthems. However, the platinum-certified quintet—Johnny 3 Tears, J-Dog, Funny Man, Charlie Scene, and Danny—tell their story like never before on their recently released eighth full-length album, Hotel Kalifornia [Dove & Grenade Media/BMG].Throughout 2021, the boys recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles with producers Erik Ron (I Prevail, Godsmack), Andrew Migliore (Sueco, Zero 9:36 Papa Roach), and Drew Fulk (Ice Nine Kills, Lil Wayne, Lil Peep).
