Interview with American Teeth

Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing American Teeth over Zoom video! American Teeth has shared a video for the new song "BARRED OUT (FEAT. TWIN XL)." The track is a total earworm and the video was co-directed by American Teeth. "'Barred Out' is about ending a relationship and wondering if you made the right decision because the emotions of the aftermath are so strong that you want to numb them out completely," American Teeth says. "This all came up in a session while writing with Cameron from TWIN XL. We've written somewhat frequently together for other artists, but this was our first time writing for American Teeth. He cut the vocal for the pre-chorus, and after hearing how good he sounded on it, we decided it would be dope to have him stay on the track!" American Teeth is the brainchild and sonic alter ego of Elijah Noll, who collaborates alongside producer Colin Brittain (All Time Low, A Day To Remember, ONE OK ROCK, Papa Roach) on the songs. Hailing from Portland, Maine but currently based in Los Angeles, he has released a handful of singles across DSPs, which have tallied a million streams thus far in an impressive feat for such a nascent artist. These infectiously catchy pop rock gems take up real estate in your cranium for days at a time. American Teeth is literally a cyborg — he has a mechanical heart valve, which was installed when he was a teenager to replace a faulty valve with which he was born. His music is much the same, fusing organic sounds and shimmering synths. American Teeth is working on new music that will comprise his Fearless Records debut. We want to hear from you! Interview with Earshot

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Earshot over Zoom video! Billboard-topping hard rockers Earshot, who are best known for such hits as "Get Away," "Headstrong," and "Wait," have come out swinging for 2021 as they unveil their first original song in five years and reveal details for their forthcoming collection of new material. "Been A Long Time" was released on all DSPs in January and was added to Active and Mainstream Rock Radio 1/19. The brazen, hook-laden new single, which Guitarist Aaron Fink describes as "a melodic, hard-rocking song with dark undertones and smart lyrics," is about the isolation that everyone has been feeling this year. Ironically, the track itself was written and recorded remotely, with band members quarantining in their homes on separate coasts. Earshot's new collection of material is slated to be released throughout 2021 as a series of singles and will mark the group's first original music since their 2015 independently-released EP Aftermath. Prior to that, their first two albums featured songs charting in the Billboard Top 200 with their debut single "Get Away" reaching #4 on the U.S. Active Rock radio charts and staying in the top 100 for over 64 weeks. However, since 2015, several of the band members (which also comprise Guitarist Andy Stafford, Bassist John Novak and Drummer Mike Sylvia) have been busy working on solo and/or other projects including Martin who recently sang lead vocals on George Lynch and Jeff Pilson's cover of Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" on the Heavy Hitters album. Fink, who is the former lead guitarist for Breaking Benjamin and Lifer, joined Earshot in 2020. We want to hear from you! Interview with Witherfall

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Witherfall over Zoom video! After a headlong dive into the aesthetics of classic '80s horror movies with the clip for "As I Lie Awake," WITHERFALL are further exploring their nightmarish journey with the NSFW video for "The Other Side of Fear," which was directed by Cig Neutron and KasL. "'The Other Side of Fear' video is a nightmare-scape starring Cig Neutron, Rannie Rodil, and Sin Twisted," the band shares. "Cig Neuron and his team managed to capture the core themes of the song. The video highlights the lyrical panic and anxious, fear-driven delivery of the music. The video is unsettling, creative, and definitely NSFW." As for the song, the band continues, "This song is the oldest track on this record. Joseph had the title and basic melody and theme. The music was written around it, usually at the end of each writing session. The piece was initially started during the 'A Prelude to Sorrow' sessions, where the verses and chorus were complete. As we progressed with the writing of A Prelude To Sorrow, it became apparent we were writing a rock opera about Adam Sagan and 'The Other Side of Fear' did not really fit thematically. The song was finished in Las Vegas after a debaucherously ridiculous evening." Witherfall's Curse of Autumn is scheduled for a worldwide street date of March 5, 2021, with the U.S. vinyl available April 2. Pre-order it here. Witherfall previously released the cinematic video for "As I Lie Awake." The clip was directed by Zev Deans (Ghost, Behemoth, Chelsea Wolfe, St. Vincent.) The band also shared the lyric video for "Another Face." Interview with The Rubens

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing The Rubens over Zoom video! Ivy League Records are thrilled to release 0202 – the exceptional fourth album by local legends, The Rubens! Loaded with effortless jams like 'Live In Life' (double Platinum, ARIA Song of the Year nominee & the fourth biggest Australian song of 2020 (ARIA)), 'Time Of My Life', 'Heavy Weather' & current single 'Masterpiece', with 0202 the band have fully transformed into an alt-rock/pop powerhouse and, for the first time, have self-produced an album that will have people re-evaluating what they thought they knew about The Rubens. By the time album opener and absolute belter 'Masterpiece' comes to an end, it becomes very clear that The Rubens have emerged inspired from all the twists and turns thrown at them in 2020 and injected a new energy into this incredible record. 0202, a forward thinking album for a backward year, sees The Rubens creating a sound that effortlessly dances across genres – alt-rock, rnb, pop and hip hop all collide into something uniquely their own. The band unexpectedly found themselves self-producing what would become their most "pop" sounding album so far, recording everything together in their friend's Camden-based studio, a converted WWII communications building, simply known as The Bunker, with bass player Will Zeglis taking on the role of engineer. Together they built each track up, starting with drummer Scott Baldwin's beats, piecing the whole thing together part by part. When they felt like they'd taken a song as far as they could on their own, they would send it on to one of three producers – Kon Kersting, Rob Amoruso or Eric J – depending on what the song needed and who they thought would be best suited to the track, to add extra production and mix the track. 0202 follows third album LO LA RU, which featured hits 'Never Ever (feat Sarah)' (Double Platinum), 'Million Man' (Certified Gold), 'God Forgot' (Certified Gold) and lead to sold out shows and a 42-date Arena tour supporting megastar P!NK. Their second album Hoops saw the band sell out headline shows at" Pavilion and Margaret Court Arena and included hits 'Hallelujah', 'Cut Me Loose' and of course the 4 x Platinum the hit title track, which topped the 2015 triple j Hottest 100, while their debut self-titled LP was home to 'My Gun' (Certified Platinum), 'Lay It Down' (Certified Gold), 'The Best We Got' and more fan-favourites. The Rubens are currently half way through their regional NSW album launch shows, and will kick off their official 0202 album tour from April – July, playing metro cities as well as regional venues across their biggest headline tour to date. Interview with Murky Waters

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Murky Waters over Zoom video! Music has always been the only place I feel comfortable expressing myself. I experienced a lot of trauma at a young age, losing my mother when I was 5 years old and consequently being raised by a single father. I have always struggled with expressing my emotions verbally. It feels like there is a war going on inside my head that I am constantly battling, but when I am writing lyrics it all comes out of me very naturally. In my music I try to talk about dark topics in a colorful way. I tend to write primarily about sad subjects like heartbreak and loss, but my melodies and beats are a bit happier and brighter sounding. I feel like it makes for a nice balance for the listener. Murky Waters has this to say about his latest release "Alone": "This track is about the struggle of regaining independence from a traumatic relationship. It captures the feeling of wanting someone so bad you drive yourself crazy, then losing them and falling apart, unable to shake the thought of them. When I was writing 'Alone' the melody came to me naturally as Ford Jones, my producer, and I was working on the beat. At that point, the words 'I've been lost all alone; You broke my heart and left me helpless' seemed to follow fluently. From there the topic had sort of just established itself and I took my experiences and filled in the blanks." We want to hear from you! Interview with O Future

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing O Future over Zoom video! O Future is an electronic duo and art collective mixing electronic music with symphony orchestra and voice, consisting of Katherine Mills Rymer originally from South Africa and Jens Bjornkjaer of Denmark. The duo returns with their new EP, Immaculate, via One Half Records, and shares the video for the album opener, "And You're Mine" Now residing in Los Angeles, O Future continues to gleefully defy the rules and subvert the common expectation that "it's all been done before". Since 2013, the duo has released three full-length albums and has been lauded by The New York Times, The Guardian, as well as Pitchfork. Their live shows have been an unexpected excursion into an electronic and acoustic set with their songs being stretched in a largely improvised manner over live instrumentation including saxophone, bass, and flute. On their new EP Immaculate, the duo offers an unflinching look into their world, highlighting and emphasizing the importance of identity and love in the process. The EP opens with the daunting "And You're Mine", boasting O Future's layered, cinematic arrangements with sweet, melodic vocals, while finishing the journey with "Meat", a song about the idea that a new self is emerging. "The conclusions we have reached while making the record was that the most important thing is intimacy, love and skin on skin humanity," they say. O Future has scored for The Royal Danish Theatre and films for Lars von Trier (Melancholia) as well as Ai Weiwei's 'Vivos', which premiered at Sundance in 2020. Most recently, they have Scored the newly released documentary '7 Years of Lukas Graham' (and just got nominated for the Danish prestigious Robert Award), composed 4 'algorithmic' operas, are currently scoring an indie feature film titled Ambrosia in which Katherine stars as lead actress, as well as made physical and digital visual artworks for the likes of Martin de Thurah (Kanye West, Fever Ray, James Blake). In 2021, O Future will also be starring alongside Patti Smith and Thurston Moore for a track on the anniversary vinyl album of Allen Ginsberg's 1971 book "The Fall of America". O Future concludes, "Immaculate" was made during the pandemic. Like everyone else we were basically just together as a married couple and art partners. Even though we are much more suited to "pandemic living" since we live and work together normally, the pandemic cracked open our perception of what we want to do, how we want to be and how we see ourselves and our output in the future. Interview with Quinn XCII

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Quinn XCII over Zoom video! Detroit-bred singer-songwriter Quinn XCII shares his emotionally raw yet powerfully uplifting new album, Change of Scenery II, more than five years after his life-changing debut EP Change of Scenery. Executive produced by longtime friend and collaborator ayokay, the album was created from the uninspiring throes of quarantine when Quinn XCII decided to shake up his creative routine and left L.A. for ayokay's family vacation home in the seaside town of Newport, Rhode Island. There they set up a makeshift studio in the living room and after two full week-long trips, they created an endlessly radiant body of work that fully captures the pure joy and camaraderie of its creation. In line with the album, Quinn XCII has also premiered an official lyric video for the song "We Don't Talk Enough" featuring Alexander 23, a dreamy meditation on the pain of growing apart from your oldest friends. The 12-track album's lead single "Stay Next to Me" feat. Chelsea Cutler, which the duo performed on The Late Late Show with James Corden, is a piano-driven portrait of infatuation at first sight. Another high-energy and irresistibly feel-good track, the hip-hop-leaning "My Wife & 2 Dogs," cleverly documents the making of the album, dropping references to Wes Anderson and Rocky Balboa in its tongue-in-cheek ode to unbridled creativity. From there, Quinn XCII shifts into a melancholy mood with "SOS," pulling inspiration from his surroundings and spinning a fictional but emotionally raw story of a lover lost at sea. Halfway through Change of Scenery II, the mesmerizing "Doris Terrace," featuring vocals from ayokay and another close friend and rising star Jeremy Zucker, makes for one of the album's most sonically adventurous and profoundly moving moments. "Through making this album I was able to stop and appreciate certain things that I'd been overlooking in the day-to-day," says Quinn XCII. "It taught me how important it is to enjoy the simple pleasures, the people closest to you, and to never take anything for granted. I hope that hearing these songs helps other people to feel that same kind of excitement and joy.' At the forefront of Quinn XCII's consistent growth is his highly sought-after and fully energized live show. In celebration of the new album, he will play a drive-in concert at City National Grove of Anaheim's Drive-In OC on March 11, 2021, which sold out within minutes of the on-sale. Change of Scenery II is available everywhere now. We want to hear from you! Interview with Icebeatchillz

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing IceBeatChillz over Zoom video! IceBeatChillz defines the new genre-bending sound of today. A multifaceted musician Ice is also a self-taught instrumentalist who layers up an Afro base with the sounds of different cultures. Ice's debut single "Area" ft. Beenie Man was a perfect example of this cultural and sonic mixing incorporating a multitude of different elements to create his uniquely Afro based sound. According to The Hype Magazine, "AREA" has all the necessary ingredients to become Afro-Dancehall's most powerful anthem." IceBeatChillz was born Emana Saintly in the small state of Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, Ice began as a soccer player, whose shoulder injury (and love affair with music) prevented a professional soccer career. Instead, in 2013, despite discouragement and protests from his deeply religious community, Ice focused on developing his career as a music producer. However, in order to take his first step to fully commit to his music Ice had to board the first bus to leave his villages of Akwa Ibom and drive 16-hours to the bustling city of Lagos to pursue his music career. After arriving in Lagos, Ice by chance stumbled into a meeting with the CEO of List Entertainment a reputable management Agency in Africa, credited for launching the careers of AfroBeat superstars like Wizkid and Diamond Platinumz. Following this chance meeting Ice was soon drafted to become one of the agency's producers, producing under the moniker Chillings. While at the agency Ice was able to meet and connect with people and sounds from across the globe learning and picking up different influences from Asian Flutes to uniquely African percussions, Latin spices and more, culturally layering an Afro-Beats foundation, and giving birth to a fresh sound that is uniquely his own. Following his time at List Entertainment, IceBeatChillz remained behind the scenes developing and producing Afro-Beat for emerging acts, including 2x Award Winning Afro-Fuji artist, Barry Jhay , Nigerian Alt-R&B artist Tems and more . A versatile and free soul, IceBeatChillz defies categorization and simply desires to make a powerful contribution to the world of music with fresh sounds to propel the African Music scene to new heights. And now with his new partnership with Crystal Clear Records, IceBeatChillz is putting himself front and center as an artist/producer bringing his unique sound to the forefront for the world to hear.
