#37: Why you must look BEYOND GP's. It's not in your head.
I’ll never forget the years where I was made to feel like an idiot. I would visit multiple GP’s and gut specialists (gastroenterologists), only to leave feeling disheartened, confused and frustrated. I spent 2-3 years searching for answers to my low energy, chronic gut issues (bloating and constipation) and got no where! Until I finally met the right integrative / functional medicine doctor who did the RIGHT tests and diagnosed me with an imbalance of gut bacteria and multiple food sensitivities. Things that a GP or specialist doctor just wouldn’t test… I used this, together with the knowledge I had acquired from my Bachelor of Science Nutrition degree that I had just finished, and the years of my own personal research, to eat in a way that healed my gut concerns. I thought I would have to live with the pain and discomfort forever… but now, I am healed and I have to continue to help women move beyond the “by the book” doctors too. If you are serious about getting to the bottom of YOUR health concerns, I really need to encourage you to dig deeper and go beyond your GPs, even your specialists. They’re not trained in Nutrition, and the world of the gut microbiome is new science too - science in which so many just don’t bother to look at or consider. This podcast is for you if you feel like you’ve exhausted all avenues and you need more answers too. #34: How Georgie Reached her Dream Weight for Her Wedding During Lockdown
Georgie began eating a lot out of boredom, saying she had “awful eating habits”. She was also constantly bloated and felt no motivation to workout. The lockdown took a huge emotional and physical toll on her. But, she had a goal… Her wedding was coming up in 9 months and she decided to embark on a healthy eating journey to give her the structure and motivation to get through lockdown. Georgie was intrigued by my approach as it appeared that she could eat huge meals and slim down… She was right! After she got into it, she was full in-between her meals, lost her bloating and quickly saw her clothes becoming looser… She also KNEW that this “all or nothing” approach hadn’t worked for her in the past, so it was time for a realistic, slow and enjoyable approach to weight loss in the lead up to her big day. One that she could maintain. And guess what? She did it! Georgie went from feeling bloated and down, to motivated, happier and far more confident each week, whilst feeling zero hunger and no deprivation from life’s joys, like enjoying cheese and wine.
