Holy sh*t, Amanda Gorman has me HYPED. In today's 5-MINUTE FRIDAY, I'm chatting about how watching the 22-year-old poet and Harvard graduate inspires me to think big and dream crazy (as did most of Wednesday's inauguration festivities, TBH). 144. Dave Asprey, Biohacker, Author & Founder of Bulletproof
By now, you've probably heard of Dave Asprey, or at least of the company he founded — Bulletproof 360 (home to The Bulletproof Diet and Bulletproof Coffee). Aside from having those tidbits on his resume, he's also the founder of the biohacking movement. As he defines it, biohacking is the art and science of changing the environment around you and inside of you so you have full control over your own biology. This week, Asprey has a new book out called Fast This Way, and in today's episode he tells me how he got to this point. He talks to me about what life was like when he weighed 300 pounds, Was a computer hacker, and dealing with a slew of health issues including arthritis — which lead him into learning and inventing biohacking. He explains how he started to spend money on getting "better than he ever had been," and what that really looked like.
Now, obviously we address that we don’t all have hundreds of thousands of dollars to hack our own health, so naturally Dave offers some low cost and free examples of small ways we can all safely level up, whether it be through our diet or other practices — like cold showers. We also talk about his impressive career history — how he made a small fortune by the time he was 26 and then lost it when he was 28. Plus: The episode kicks off with a beautiful discussion on the importance of gratitude.

5-MINUTE FRIDAY: Focusing On Life Offline
I went through a phase in mid-2020 when I made the conscious decision to unfollow a slew of people on social media and “block” others from viewing my Instagram story. Recently, one of them reached out to me, and we had a reckoning of sorts. I noticed that since we reconnected, the person made a concerted effort to check in from time to time, more so than before. He often asks about my days, even the stuff I post about on via social media — like my morning run or how work’s going. In today's 5-MINUTE FRIDAY, I talk about forgiveness and the awesome lesson I learned by making a huge mistake.

143. Becs Gentry, Peloton Instructor & Runner
With personal best times of 1:16 in the half marathon and 2:37 in the marathon, Becs Gentry is a stellar athlete — proud of the body she’s built that enables her to show up every single day. But in episode 143 of Hurdle, she tells me about a time in her life when she actually didn’t feel super comfortable in her own skin. The Peloton instructor details what it was like to first start integrating more walking into her day to day back home in England, and how that routine slowly developed into a running habit.
She tells me about the conversation she had with her uncle that changed everything, empowering her to get out of a bad relationship and pivot in her career, what it was like to travel the world for nike during the early stages of Nike Run Club, and the call from Rebecca Kennedy had her packing her bags and moving to New York to join the Peloton team. She also shares her best advice for how to handle negative self talk, something I know we all can be guilty of from time to time. This one's jam-packed with goodness, it’s also an episode that ya’ll have been DM-ing me asking for! So! I’m happy that it’s one of the first in the new year.

In Focus: Making Smarter Eating Choices With Shana Spence, MS, RDN @thenutritiontea
2021 has arrived, and with it — a lot of us are setting some big goals as well as new year's resolutions. This week on Hurdle, I'm releasing five back-to-back episodes as a part of the "In Focus" series, chatting with top experts about some of the most popular, frequent topics in wellness that many set goals around time and time again.
For episode three of the series, I'm chatting about the importance of eating better with Shana Spence, MS, RDN. In today's episode, Shana talks us through the notion that everyone has a different version of what healthy means for them, but we can all make smarter choices for a better overall diet. We chat through hydration best-practices, how to navigate bloat — whether it be post-holidays or any other event, why it's important to have a lot of color in your meals, and so much more. Plus: The difference between frozen/canned and fresh fruits and veggies and the big perk to not eliminating anything ~completely~ from your eating/drinking repertoire.
