What to Pack to Travel in Style | EP 52
We are tripping this week, which means: "What to Pack?" These 3 little words, when put together, tend to be SUPER stressful for some people. But, not to worry! Our Stylists Extraordinaire are here to make sure you don't overpack or forget your underpants – and, they even pick out the right suitcase for you! Because you need to be prepared: you need to read the room, know where you are going - and you need to look good. Period. So, what kind of trip packer are you? Nolan tends to pack his entire wardrobe – especially all of his shoes – and then needs to borrow a suitcase to get all of his shit back home. Duh. Holly has a formula to pack for dinners, daytime activities, and adds 2 extra backup outfits. But regardless of how much, or how planned out, you do your packing; don't forget to pack your style. Can I get an amen? This week: Our amazing and knowledgeable stylists try really hard to give you insider packing secrets, but mainly, spend most of their time discussing what Holly will be wearing to the Podcast Movement convention in Nashville, TN. I mean, #sorrynotsorry. Nolan is butt-hurt that he "was not invited" to a super-dorky podcast convention, which would have bored him TO DEATH. So, he is planning his own trips to Miami and Vegas, instead. Both of our stylists have been shopping and planning for Holly's appearances in Nashville because the FASHION CRIMES PODCAST will be one of the only, if not THE only, fashion podcast represented at this national convention. So - She. Needs. To. Kill. It. Be sure to follow our social media this week, because you must see all of the AMAZ-BALLS outfits Holly and Nolan have created for this trip. They chose a fun and current short suit from Anine Bing, which will be accompanied by Holly's lustful purchase of some rockin' Roger Vivier boots. Nolan is the master of finding the best designer styles, and then waiting for them to go on sale. "Never pay full retail" is Nolan's mantra! They then move on to Holly's next outfit: a knit Alaia dress covered in butterflies. Nolan tells us all about this designer and these unique knit dresses that work for any shape and figure. The rest of the outfits include denim from Frame Clothing and Oscar de la Renta along with the new YSL lip print shoes. NEXT. LEVEL. Of course – they spend HOURS discussing the OG Saint Laurent Red Lips vintage print heels. If you haven't heard about this purchase yet, don't worry: You will hear it again! While our fashion experts do tend to gush about their love for designer styles, Nolan is always quick to remind our listeners that selling a kidney for any item is ridiculous. Wait for the sale, but if you see it on sale, do buy it right then and there. Also: buy things that bring you joy. If you like the dress, buy it. Because you might get hit by a fucking bus tomorrow. But, back to planning for your next trip: buy a good suitcase (Holly likes Away Luggage, Nolan likes Rimowa), don't overpack, think of all the shoes you will need, don't forget your shapewear or undergarments, and think about where you will be, who you will be with and what the occasion is. We want you to Travel in Style. In This Episode: [1:00] Holly: People constantly ask me what to pack or how to pack. What are we going to pack? What should I bring? Nolan brings his entire closet every time he packs and goes somewhere. . [2:01] Holly: What is up, homie? Nolan, I am so high on life right now. Nolan: No, you're not high on life. It's Saint Laurent you're high on, there's a very big difference. Very, big difference. I'm very rarely high on life. I am, almost always, high on fashion. Big difference. . [04:47] Nolan: I know, look at me! I'm helping someone pack for a trip that I wasn't even invited on. Uh! I'm such a giver. . [06:35] Holly: Nolan, as you just told me that I don't get a medal, OK, for doing good things. You don't get a medal for adulting. Okay, cuz that's what you're doing. You're doing a hustle. . [06:53] Nolan: I wouldn't say that's why I'm butt hurt, but let's go with it. Let's just go with it. I am, I'm jealous. You do get to go to UAL, which is United Apparel Liquidators. One of my best-kept secrets. . [9:40] Holly: But this is a happy podcast, because we're going to talk about packing. When you're packing, you have to think about the dress code where you're going to be, what you're going to do, who you're going to be with, and how you're going to be photographed. Because if you've worn the same clothes, around the same people: It's time to get some new clothes. Time to get a new look. Let's talk about the first outfit that I'm going to wear, the Anine Bing suit. . [12:44] Nolan: I was so proud because I love Roger Vivia. I'm a sucker for anything French, and I think Roger Vivia, their edgier styles, are really beautiful. But again, they're ridiculously expensive. . [14:16] Holly: Okay, so I'm wearing that because I'm reading the room. I understand that I will be the only fashion person, and it's 'a lot' but it's not 'A LOT.' Nolan, explain the difference between a lot and A LOT. . [17:44] Holly: The next day, as I will be running around, making it rain, with my personality and my business cards, meeting people, being a lady about town, running around the convention. I'm going to wear my next prized possession, which is: Dun Dun Dun: the butterfly dress. . [18:09] Nolan: So, I love Alaia. I've always loved Alaia. I mean, it's just beyond. And Holly and I often fight about buying things that are classics that are long-term pieces to have forever, because I look at fashion, as I like things to be buildable. You like to have something be like, a one-stop-shop. You want the dress to be bold and memorable and whatever, which is great. But then you can't wear it six times in one year, because then everyone's like, oh, there's that dress again. . [21:21] Nolan: I'm very much like: buy it now. Or, don't buy it at all. But I don't want to hear it, if it sells out. Because you get mad when it sells out. So, I always say, if you don't buy it, that's fine. You don't need to. But if you want it, you need to buy it now. Because I don't want to hear about it in three weeks, I want that dress and it's gone. And I get yelled at, because it's not my fault. . [24:19] Holly: Which brings us back around to the new lip shoes. My pride, my joy, Nolan, I'm saying it. It's recorded. I am pushing it out to the world. You were right. . [24:33] Nolan: I'm always right, though. . [26:44] Nolan: Hmmm? Something else I wasn't invited to? Oh, sorry. That was my out-loud voice. . [26:54] Nolan: You told me to be sassy today. I don't know if you were quite ready. . [28:09] Holly: I'm so glad you went to a dinner party that I wasn't invited to. I'm 80% happy for you. . [28:49] Nolan: How do you pack? Because now that we're talking about this, I feel like we've given no packing tips. We've just talked about ourselves for 30 minutes. (Duh.) Let's come back to the whole packing thing, because as a packer, I would rather have too much than too little. . [29:56] Holly: If you're going on a three-day weekend, you figure out what you're going to wear. You don't have to know every single activity, what you're going to do, but you need to plan out what you're wearing at night and during the day and bring two backup outfits. That is what I do. . [34:34] Holly: Anyway, so packing! Call us, ask us. Let us know what your questions are. We're excited to help you. Don't overpack. Make sure you plan. Bring enough shoes, be comfortable. Bring all your undergarments. Peace Out! Key Takeaways: Holly and Nolan discuss how to plan your wardrobe for trips. The key is to know where you going, who you will be seeing, and to plan ahead. Shop, prepare and pack ahead of time. Holly recommends a formula for packing by occasion and time of day. Nolan likes to have options, so he packs everything. Which packing style works for you? Our stylists have been all over the place shopping for Holly's trip to the Podcast Movement National Podcaster's Convention in Nashville, TN the week of Aug. 2nd. Holly feels the pressure to 'kill it' with style, as it is the first appearance of the Fashion Crimes Podcast at this event. Photos of the 'Outfits of the Day' are posted on our social pages. Nolan shares his fun, unique and flavorful insider's knowledge of the designers he has chosen for Holly, often with insightful historical references, and of course, his own personal anecdotes from his adventures in fashion. You could get hit by fucking bus tomorrow." – Nolan

Menswear and the Cabana Suit | EP 51
Oh, Pool Boy! We are talking summer menswear this week, and we have one burning question: Is the Cabana Suit back? What the hell is a cabana suit, anyway? Jump into the deep end with us, as we unpack the recent resurrection of retro, mid-century era matching short sets for men. Why you say? Well, we don't really know, except that they are showing up on men everywhere, from Bruno Mars to NBA stars and beyond. The Wall Street Journal recently covered this phenomenon in a recent article called "Cabana Suits: The Summer Outfit of Choice for NBA Stars and Honeymooners," where the first line threw us for a loop: "Guys are suiting up in quirkily printed cabana sets to inject some summer frivolity into their warm-weather wardrobes." We dive into the Who, What, Where and WHYYYYYY? Picture James Bond with his toned and tanned manly figure in a wildly printed or striped short-sleeve camp shirt (unbuttoned all the way, of course) over matching swim shorts. He has a martini in his hand on a boat in the French Riviera, and DAMMIT, he is sexy! Hop forward half a century, and we are not so sure it works for today's man. We've posted photos on social so you can join in on the debate: Hot or Not? We swim all around the styles men should and should not wear this summer. It's a Summer Hot Mess Express, and you need to jump on. Did Nolan really say he'd be up for wearing an Orlebar Brown terrycloth man romper? Yes, yes he did. He also notes, again, that spending $300 on a men's bathing suit makes him CRAZY! No matter how beautiful they are. Of course, the debate goes off track entirely to discuss a men's Balmain pea coat, just because Holly and Nolan fell in love with one. From summer wardrobes and winter coats to recent fashion finds at Bergdorf, and to whether or not Nolan can truly commit to the Cabana Suit - it's a swimmingly good time on the Fashion Crimes Podcast this week! IN THIS EPISODE: [00:54] "Hey, hey, hey everyone what is going on? Thank you for tuning in to the Fashion Crimes Podcast. I am your favorite personal stylist Holly Katz, and I'm here with you today. We are discussing men's wear today. And of course, this is certainly an area of expertise for my stylist, my bestie, my confidant, my rock, personal stylist, celebrity stylist, end all, be all, best gay: Mr. Nolan Meader!" [1:57] "And I just want to say that, you know, if your husband looks bad, I always say that's your fault, not your fault, but the wives' fault, because they don't know how to guide their husbands." [3:29] "When you're dressing in dad mode: khaki pants, cargo shorts, fucking Crocs, Berks, Converse, you know, whacked-out polos that, you know, polos that with the rib collar? Just no, you know what I'm saying?" [5:09] "On the topic of the… what are they? What are you calling them? Oh, anyway, I've seen the Dior ones and they're like monogram oblique print and it's all silk. And I'm like, why would you want it to be total silk? No, I don't feel like anybody looks good and silk. Really? Unless you're six foot tall, blonde, Russian girl!" [6:14] "So I know this is like a Bruno Mars thing because he's been wearing these for years. But like he can pull it off. Right? I think it's like if you're a celebrity, you know, you can pull it off. But I just think it's interesting because it's actually a style from the 60s that's coming back." [6:32] "But in the old days, I think it's Orlebar Brown did all the bathing suits for James Bond movies. And, they brought back a thing, there was a man romper. Essentially, one of them from the 60s, it was like a terry cloth, beachy-thing, and they just brought it back and did a reissue of it, which was actually very cute." [12:56] "Anyway, I don't put money in like, a (swim) suit. I don't give a shit about putting money in a bathing suit." [15:59] "I was in Bergdorf Goodman last week with a couple of friends. And, you know, we had a couple of drinks. You know, we boarded the martini train, as I like to say, and we go to the Chanel department." [17:54] "But, what is so interesting about it, is it's the cut of it. It is very, I mean, it's kind-of tailored, but the way the lapels are, they're very square. And then at the top, they're very sharp and the top cuts across the chest and goes into a black hood. It's like a slouchy hood, like Gucci hood. So it's a super tailored fabulous jacket, with this like slouchy, mushy like hood. I'm into it. It's a fabulous coat." [26:23] "It's undecided if I find one, I mean actually no, quick side note, Louis Vuitton did friends in New York and one came in a cabana suit. He was wearing the watercolor shirt from the cabana suit and I literally ripped it off of his body and wore it for like an hour and a half." [27:37] "So, what IS the shoe of choice to wear to the pool, for men? [30:06] "Thank you so much for listening. If you have any menswear questions, hit us up. If your husband looks like ass, let us know. If you know someone who needs help - your brother, your cousin, your neighbor - hit us up. We're full of useless information." KEY TAKEAWAYS: Many men's brands, at various price points, have brought back retro matching short sets for men. The upside of the new trend? They are colorful, a bit dressy, and fun addition to your wardrobe. The downside? Many are made of silk, which makes no sense for summer weather, and some designs are too outrageous (and pricey!) for anyone other than celebrities and sports stars. Even though summer weather is hot and sticky, men do not need to dress like slobs. Skip the cargo shorts and old shirts. Cool, comfortable and stylish alternatives for updating your wardrobe are easy and simple to find. Our co-hosts (and professional stylists) are truly here to offer a variety of helpful fashion insights on the dos and don'ts of what to wear – in the most lovingly way possible! But we can't promise they won't roll their eyes, or use lots of swear words. And it's because you don't know what to do, and you don't care enough to try to figure it out." – Holly Katz "I mean, Nolan, to see you in a terry cloth man romper? I would love that. That would give me life. I'm just saying: That. Would. Give. Me. Life!" – Holly Katz "If you're someone my age, right, I don't have unlimited income to buy whatever I want all the time. So, my thought is, I need to put my money into things that I get the most enjoyment out of, which for me, are bags and shoes, and coats. For you, that's shoes. Shoes are your kryptonite." – Nolan Meader

Stylists In The City – How to Shop like a Stylist | EP 50
This week we are back to work in New York City, and we are killing it! Get the insider's scoop on our lives as stylists - shopping for clients, shopping for ourselves, tracking down the latest fashion trends, and getting hype when we find killer deals or get free stuff. Nolan has been a Lady-About-Town all week, pimping out Holly's dog, Schmutz (our show mascot) for modeling gigs, shopping for clients, shopping for Holly, cashin' checks and snappin' necks....I mean I'm just sayin. Because the life a professional stylist is hard, people! And it requires drinks. Nolan has also been on a bit of an emotional roller coaster – trying NOT to jump into on-coming traffic, but enough about that... Our Stylists Extraordinaire drag us all over town, recounting some of their most ridiculous shopping adventures – from Bergdorf's with Schmutz, to Nolan's fav-o-rite store Frame Clothing, to in-person VIP events at DVF and Alexander McQueen. Nolan even has a "Sex In the City-esque" moment with a dress! OMG OMG OMG. The news from The City is that people are out and about, and they are WEARING CLOTHES! Nolan is like a kid in a candy shop walking around the Upper East Side, ogling outfits. Holly finds stuff she LOVES window-shopping, and Nolan is not always impressed with her choices, which, of course, he says out loud. Have you ever heard two stylists trash-talk? It's subtle, but it is there, girlfriend! Our two favorite stylists (and the only stylists you need to know) stumble upon the School of Visual Arts Student NYC x Design Windows Exhibition featuring shoes made of everyday items like Chinese food take-out containers, puzzle pieces and even bubble tea. Nolan was not impressed with the idea of shoes that might have held last night's Lo Mein...NEXT. LEVEL. YALL. Just so you know, some stores in NYC are still being plagued by shortages, so GET READY TO WAIT for items to arrive, and don't be surprised to see empty shelves. Holly and her husband Jonathan head out to the Hamptons where they proceed to over-serve themselves in the shopping department. Holly has all sorts of excuses, but basically, the shopping out there is TO. DIE. Period. Although, Holly was tempted by a rubber chicken purse for a certain client (long story), and Nolan nearly had a heart attack on the spot. Join us this week for an insider's view of the highs, and certainly some lows, of shopping like pro stylists. It's super glamorous until it's not. IN THIS EPISODE: [00:12] Holly "We are the best friends that you never knew that you needed. We are the industry insiders and fashions odd couple. In both of our everyday lives and industry events, we see the best and unfortunately the worst in clothing and style. We are fashion partners in crime dedicated to stopping the most heinous of all fashion crimes on the street and runways and beyond." [01:25] Holly "Hello!! We are in New York City. We're killing it. Nolan is killing it. Just wanted to give you an update on our latest adventures. I've been in town for 24 hours. Nolan has been taking care of Schmutz in New York, which has been amazing. They've had lots of adventures. He said nobody would leave them alone in Bergdorf's. We've had a great time." [02:26] Holly "I was shopping for my client, and then Nolan was shopping for me. It was a little awkward. But I was like, this is my stylist, but I'm a stylist, too. And I'm shopping for someone else. As Nolan says, it's a very unhealthy codependent relationship. So drinking is involved." [04:14] Nolan "So, we needed a dog. And I said, "Well, why don't we use Schmutz?" And my boss was like, "Oh my God! Yes!" And so this morning I sent it in a picture of Schmutz. And when I looked at the call sheet when I got to the office, there was Schmutz's picture! So it's like, three supermodels and their names and their measurements and like all their stuff, and then Schmutz's picture is underneath the models. I mean, is a little hilarious." [07:02] Nolan "Yeah, so we were supposed to see the latest collection for Alexander McQueen last year. In fact, the night before, my friend and I were out, and we walked by the Alexander McQueen window and there was this incredible pale pink tulle, strapless ball gown with a corset. And I see my friend just staring up at it. She's like, "That's SO pretty!" And I was like, "Yeah, I know." I said, "Why don't you buy it?" "Because I have nowhere to go," she said." [05:13] Nolan "Oh my god, it was the first post-pandemic party. And, oh my god, it felt so good. It was like a fashion family reunion. Everyone was so happy that we were drinking a lot of champagne. You know, we were running around playing with the DVF dresses, and everyone was outside getting pictures taken. The Vogue photographers were there, everyone was there, it was great! It was a lot of fun!" [08:15] Nolan "So, a lot of the time, the events are for VIPs and such. They will bring in the latest collection to view. They couldn't really stage the show because they've been on hold because of the pandemic. And now, it's a way just to sort of get people to see the latest collection and designers have gotten really creative. But I love the fact that they're bringing them to New York, you know, inviting certain people to come to look at it and see it in person." [13:09] Nolan "I mean, and you fell in love with like a turquoise sequin moment at the Ralph Lauren window Holly: It was teal. And I don't know why I loved this so much, because I'm not very conservative, but…Nolan: It definitely would be a really good Mahjong outfit. (Eye-roll.)" [15:46] Holly "Well, me and Jonathan, we went to the Hamptons and we shopped like it was our job." [20:04] Nolan "So I finally caved. And I bought black Gucci Jordan loafers, and I used my Bloomingdale's points. So it wasn't like I actually spent any money on them, other than like, $100. It was great." [22:20] Holly "What else do we have coming up, Nolie? We have an amazing, amazing list of beautiful, amazing, fabulous, "next level" guests that are going to be on our podcast. We are in New York for a couple of weeks. And Nolan is killing it. And he is building up his resume. And he is cashing checks and snapping necks. That's what I like to say. Tons of things going on in the fashion industry. Join us next week!" KEY TAKEAWAYS - New York City is alive and well! And people are ready to wear clothes, mingle and be out an about again. The energy is so refreshing! - From the City to the Hamptons to wherever you are, it's great to be shopping again! Everyone needs a little, or a lot, of retail therapy. - Working as a professional stylist requires a lot of legwork. Don't think you can be styled by a robot from one of those monthly fashion subscriptions. Do they really know if you are a booty girl? Or, that your size is not the same as a designer's size? Don't be an idiot. Links Discussed here: Alexander McQueen: https://www.instagram.com/alexandermcqueen/ Quotes: "I was shopping for my client, while Nolan was shopping for me. It was a little awkward. But I was like, this is my stylist, but I'm a stylist, too. And I'm shopping for someone else. It's a very unhealthy co-dependent relationship. Which requires drinking." – Holly Katz "Was there food? No! Which I thought was very reckless. How reckless of them to serve champagne with no bites. Because, if you get people hammered, and they just have to go home, that makes you a douche." – Nolan Meader "We were walking home, and we walked by the Alexander McQueen window and there was this incredible pale pink tulle, strapless ball gown with a corset. And I see my friend just staring up at it. She's like, 'That is so pretty!' And I'm like, 'Yeah, I know. Why don't you buy it?!' And she said, 'Because I have nowhere to go.' Pandemic stories." – Nolan Meader "Bergdorf's. It's our favorite place to go. I love Bergdorf, the dog loves Bergdorf. Everybody loves Bergdorf. It is my happy place." – Nolan Meader "Okay, let's unpack that for a moment, shall we? It's just a couple of days before I get paid. I don't have to eat tomorrow. Its all good." – Nolan Meader "Nolan is killing it. He is building up his resume this week. And he is cashing checks and snapping necks. That's what I like to say. Tons of things going on the fashion industry." – Holly Katz

FCP Report of Summer Wardrobe Do's & Don'ts | EP 49
Happy Summer Vacation!! Holly and Nolan are hanging out this week, talking Summer Wardrobe smack. Talking about people. Talking about what we're doing. Talking about where we're going. And, uhm, this brought up a very sensitive subject with Nolan, because he's got a lot of fashion beef. So, we ask: "What's your beef, Nolan? What are the Fashion Crimes we need to be aware of this summer?" Nolan has some major rants this week about Summer Wardrobe Do's and Don'ts: Men don't get tend to get pedicures; therefore, they don't get to wear flip-flops. Summer does not mean you get to be a freaking slob. READ THE ROOM, People! Or, Read the Beach! The beaches in Maine are lovely and all (and the Bush family compound is there), but it's not the Hamptons. And it certainly ain't Martha's Vineyard. So plan your outfits accordingly. Our Stylists Extraordinaire help you plan and pack for your summer adventures. Flip-flops are for the beach (and for women), while sexy sandals – or preferably Valentino Rock Stud block heels - are perfect for dinners out. Holly makes the point that, if it's hanging out, you gotta throw it out. Shorts that are too short and boobs that are falling out are "No Bueno!" It's important to invest in a well-fitting swimsuit. Pull that stuff in ladies! Try on a goddamn Miracle Suit, for the love of God! It's life-changing...for reals. And no one paid us to say that. And in other news, while we don't like fast fashion, you don't need to break the bank to buy stylish. Nolan educates Holly on the latest Target designer collaborations. Holly starts Googling – right in the middle of the show – and falls in love with the Christopher John Rogers dresses. We do love a good Target collab moment!!! And talk about it extensively. And don't forget your summer style etiquette: Casual wedding settings do not mean 'dress casual.' Have some respect, please!! When in doubt – overdress. And Nolan reminds us of his formal point of view on this: You don't wear white to a wedding, but you do wear black to a funeral. "To me, it's the ultimate form of disrespect. It says I don't care enough about you, because I don't care enough about you to put my best foot forward. And that, to me, is unacceptable. I would rather be overdressed than underdressed." Preach, Queen!! Don't miss Nolan's PTSD Prada flip-flop story, (very dramatic), and how it relates to Sex in the City. If you need to know, go check out Season 6, Episode 9 when Carrie is 'shoe shamed" for her extravagant lifestyle. If you know, you know. You say you are ready for a summer vacation, but, are you really 'ready'? Listen now for your best summer self ever! IN THIS EPISODE: 1:17 Holly What. Is. Going. On? We're hanging out today, talking smack. Talking about people. Talking about what we're doing. Talking about where we're going. And, uhm, this brought up a very sensitive subject with Nolan, because he's got a lot of beef. What's your beef? Nolan? What's your fashion beef? 1:39 Nolan It's a different vibe, right? If you go to the Hamptons, you're going not just for the beach, but for the parties, and the shopping, and the restaurants, and like, that sort of the crowd. It's the same thing with like Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cape Cod -you sort of go for the beaches. Or, if you're gay, you go to Provincetown, and, like, do a bunch of coke. 3:19 Nolan Nolan was at a "friend's" house in the summer one year, and their puppy chewed through his Prada flip-flops. "Oh, Hell No! That happened. Your dog chewed them? What would you do if your dog chewed through someone's shoes? What would the first words out of your mouth be? It should be: Oh my god, I'll buy you a new pair. I'm so sorry!" 7:37 Holly and Nolan debate Birkenstocks, AGAIN! Ew. 9:55 Nolan "Okay, Queen - it's one thing if it's a casual lunch, but if you're going to a nice dinner, put some fucking shoes on, for the love of God. " 10:26 Nolan You dress very differently depending on where you're going for the summer. If you go to the Outer Banks, it's very different. You wear different clothes. Of course, when you're going to Nantucket, or when you go to the Hamptons, you need to read the room. It just depends on how fancy the area is. 14:40 Nolan gives Holly the 411 on this summer's Target designer collaborations. Everyone can try out some of the world's best designs at an easy entry point. Designers like Alexis, Rixo, and Christopher John Rodgers have wowed us this summer with their bold, vibrant, and accessible fashions! 20:48 Holly Read. The. Room. Know your audience. Know where you're going. Don't wear some whack shit to a summer wedding. Don't do that. That's my biggest pet peeve is people who underdress for a wedding. A lot of people don't understand that. Oh, the wedding is casual! Well, that doesn't mean you roll up in some shit that you wear every day. It's still special, right? You should look good and look nice. 25:01 Holly Invest in a well-fitting swimsuit. They cost a fortune. It's not like it's a small investment. They can be expensive. But, it is the best thing I've ever done. Key Takeaways: Plan your summer wardrobe accordingly: Where are you going? What is the vibe there? Casual beach? Beach chic? Invest in a good-fitting bathing suit. If your stuff is hanging out, throw it out. Don't underdress for a summer wedding, even if it is casual. You don't need to break the bank: Target x Designer Collaborations this summer are AWESOME! Your extravagant shoe lifestyle might not be your AirBnb's problem. Do we agree: Men should not wear flip-flops Do we really want to see man toes? It's a no from me, dog. Links Discussed here: Sex In the City: https://youtu.be/kQaJboeMI1c Quotes: "Hands down: if your shorts are too short; if you're a guy, and your swim shorts are too short or they're too tight, or your ass or your boobs are hanging out - it's time for a new bathing suit. A bathing suit is a big investment. I will definitely give you that because they're not cheap anymore. But, you really get what you pay for." – Holly "Grown men should not wear flip-flops. Guys don't get pedicures for the most part. I mean - I do, because, you know, me of course. But unless you're doing yard work, I don't give a shit. In which case, it's probably not safe because you might drop a chainsaw or something" – Nolan "I'm like, bitch, put a heel on, or put a Valentino block heel sandal on. A flip-flop is just a little too casual." - Nolan

Mary Higham: Style Blogger, Influencer & Sample Sale Queen | EP 48
Get ready to Sparkle and Shine and live life in full color, Queens!!! This week, we welcome style blogger and personal stylist Mary Higham, creator of "Glam in Gotham." Mary's personal aim is to fill each day with whimsy and color, and she unapologetically believes that fashion should make people happy. Well, duh! As Mary says: "Every piece of my clothing makes a statement towards a little piece of my personality - I wear my heart on my sleeve (sometimes literally)!" Mary's blog and Instagram page are saturated in her trademark fluff and sequins – as well as her beloved headbands – where she shares her perspective on her new life in NYC, tips and tricks for vintage finds, and loves to promote her favorite fashion accessories and styles. Nolan brings us the goods this week and introduces us to Mary as only Nolan can: recounting a story about the first time he hung out with Mary at a Halloween party, where he got super trashed and had a great time… well, you can imagine. But back to Mary: we discuss her first career as an event consultant specializing in meetings, conferences and trade shows. She then started blogging, moved to NYC – LITERALLY moving into a new apartment the day before the pandemic shut down the City - and decided to focus on her love of fashion when the world's planning and live events actually died in 2020. We L.O.L about personal shopping gigs, sample sales, thrifting, blogging, curating your own personal style, our love for NYC, and even why there is a lot of online discussion about the state of her husband's pant-wearing status on most days. Some things just have to be seen or heard, so take a listen. Seriously though, Mary shares how she supports up-and-coming brands by promoting and elevating the designers and products she loves. She then combines her professional experience as an event planner to connect brands and consumers. We are so inspired by Mary's business insights and career path: "You can't fit a career in a box. Nobody's life fits into a perfect box. It is not always in a straight line. There is no clear path. Carve out what you love." Join us for a wonderful adventure full of rainbows and unicorns, career journeys and the love of fashion! And of course, we include all the usual swear words and things that totally annoy us along the way. In This Episode: [2:11] NOLAN: It's been such a long year. So I mean, you wear so many hats. So, you're an event consultant. You're a stylist. You're a personal shopper. A color and style enthusiast, because it brings you joy. You're like also like me, you're a sample sale queen. [3:01] HOLLY: Mary, I just want to say I'm looking at you right now. I've only seen your picture. You're completely Gorg! Love your headband. She's got on this beaded headband and, I mean, super colorful rainbow dress. You look amazing! [5:07] MARY: So, I'm actually adopted and I grew up on the Jersey Shore as an Asian kid with white parents - grew up on the Irish Catholic Riviera of America on the Jersey Shore. [8:04] MARY: It's not easy to follow your passion. I attended panels where brand designers and CEOs are sitting there, talking about how, you know, "One day I just decided I wanted to create my own line. So I cold called a lot of people and now look at how successful I am." And I'm like, "That's not true. You started your career as an intern, you started as a stylist assistant." [11:28] MARY: I used to travel all over the world. So, I could be in any city or any country, like who even knows. But the most popular thing I ever asked about on my Instagram Stories was: do you want to know if my husband is wearing pants or not? [17:43] HOLLY: And what is your shtick? Are you "fashion at your age"? Are you "fashion for a certain size?" Tell me what your shtick is… you believe in color, or what is your unique perspective about why your outfits are important. [23:27] MARY: You know, look, if we really want to break it down in a nutshell, what I believe I can do to help other women is: I think it's really important to embrace yourself. I'm not going to tell every woman that she needs to be wearing color. You know what, if you like black, and it is an entirely black ensemble, if you feel that's you, and that's what makes you happy? Then you do that. [28:15] MARY: There was almost an entire month where Nate was like "Come on, just walk the dogs with me" I was like, okay, so I go out, and of course, I put on sequins and a big-ass bow on my head, and I was like, we're gonna walk the dogs! So we go downstairs and my doorman was like "Holy Shit, Mary! Oh my god, you're alive. We had a pool going, we really thought your husband had murdered you know, you for weeks." [52:02] MARY: I think I would say it's a fashion crime to just follow trends and to wear it because like, oh, pink is the new, you know, what is it? Orange is the new pink? It's the new red? [61:00] NOLAN: I proceeded to get blackout. Oh, and then we had Korean barbecue afterwards. It was so good. Key Takeaways: Nolan has fabulous fashion friends who make amazing podcast guests Mary Higham followed her head and her heart to combine careers without following the rules, or the norms, or what everyone says is the correct path to success. Pandemic got you down? Pivot to expand your career opportunities and you just might find a way to do more than your day job. But you still gotta pay the bills. There are highs and lows and depression, and then there are people who are fake about what it means to be successful. You be you. Your personal style, your path to happiness, your success and failures – no one can tell you how to be you, or how to be happy. People want people. We want live fashion shows again. We want to touch and feel and taste fabric. We want to see the good, the bad and the beautiful at live fashion shows. Some things just cannot be digital. Find people, brands, products and ideas that you love. Follow them, lift them up, promote them, be a part of their community. Collaboration is the new black. And the fashion is uniquely personal to you. I am never gonna tell someone what they have to wear." – Mary Higham "It's shot girl summer: vaxxed, waxed and ready to relax." – Mary Higham "So, I'm actually adopted and I grew up on the Jersey Shore, an Asian kid with white parents who grew up on the Irish Catholic Riviera of America on the Jersey Shore." – Mary Higham "Listen, no one is upset that you're Asian, Jewish AND Italian. Okay? Because you grew up on the Jersey Shore. It's all good that you're Jewish, that you're more Jewish than most people." – Holly Katz "And I'm never gonna not love headbands. I've loved headband since I was like six years old. So I don't care. I could be 18, I could be 45, still gonna be wearing a sparkly headband." – Mary Higham "You don't need a million followers to have any degree of influence." – Mary Higham

International Personal Stylist- Traci Jeske | EP 47
Holly and Nolan are living la dolce vita-style this week, people! Not only are we talking about Italy, but Canada, Dubai, and more. We are so freaking honored to welcome special guest Traci Jeske this week. She is the director of En Vogue Stylist and an internationally certified Personal Stylist who helps women over 40 and beyond level up their glamour game to unapologetically create and live their best and most stylish second acts ever. Traci was born and bred in Canada before establishing her stylish, stiletto-sharp brand in Italy (via Australia, btw) where she has lived for the last 20 years. In this episode, Traci tells us how she loves to blend Italian 'la dolce vita' with her flair for fashion and style. She divulges her styling experiences of over 30 years in the fashion industry and reveals her tips for helping women find their unique style. Traci is SO CHIC, Nolan can hardly stand it. She just oozes international charm, style, and coolness - and now - Holly and Nolan have invited themselves to Milan next summer. Holly loves Traci, and Nolan loves Canada (because meds are cheap?), and no one can agree if they really like Balenciaga Crocs or not. It's a hot mess, so you'll just have to try to keep up. Travel along as we follow Traci's professional styling stories from Canada to Australia to London – and then to Dubai – where everyone literally dresses like the Kardashians, and Traci made the mistake one time of taking a cab instead of a Rolls Royce. Well, duh! How embarrassing. Styling gigs in Europe, international designer fashion shows, living in Italy, and being a WOMAN OF AGE – we use all of our swear words through it all! In This Episode: [1:35] Nolan suggests that PERHAPS Holly's weekly intros of him as her best gay each week are a tad too long…? [2:31] Traci dares to ask Nolan if it's okay if she wears Balenciaga Crocs. [3:48] Nolan confesses his secret lust for Canada and lists his reasons as to why. [5:19] Holly learns that her favorite photo of Traci was actually shot on the French Riviera, and thus, we get off subject (again). [7:24] We learn how Traci went to Australia, returned to Canada, and met her Italian husband. [9:45] Hear why Traci turned to her unique fashion style instead of learning Italian. [13:50] Traci shares what to expect when traveling and styling in Dubai. It's beyond hot, and she got to style a photoshoot in a sandstorm! [18:16] Fashion Week War Stories: they are hard to get into, we discuss favorite designers and how to have more fun on the side. [22:19] Traci mentioned her upcoming "Shopping Retreat in Italy," and Holly lost her damn mind. [26:38] Apparently everything starts falling south after 50? Holly and Traci discuss how they help women fight their insecurities through fashion. [33:11] Hair weaves? Extensions? We debate. [33:49| Nolan talks skincare: La Prairie vs. fetus facials vs. La Mer. [38:59] We discuss what is next for Traci's brand, and how much we love her! Key Takeaways: Once Traci figured out her passion for professional styling, she ran with it – literally spanning the globe. Don't be afraid to do what you love. Styling gigs differ by county and culture. What people need, how to best style clients and what to expect can be very different depending on where you are, or where your clients are. Just when women hit their strides with wit and wisdom, life experiences, and finally get rid of their pesky kids, their bodies change. It sucks and we talk all about it. All the skincare products, short-term dermatology fixes, and plastic surgery in the world don't always help, and it's freaking expensive. "No matter your age, your size or your lifestyle, you can look and feel fabulous. There is no reason why you too can't wake up, jump out of bed with joy and purpose, excited to start your day. Living and being the woman you have always dreamt to be." – Traci Jeske Links Mentioned En Vogue Stylist Website: http://www.envoguestylist.com/ En Vogue Stylist Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/envoguestylist Traci Jeske Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tracijeskeofficial/ En Vogue Stylist LinkTree: https://linktr.ee/en_vogue_stylist Quotes: "I'm just jealous because you live in Europe. And that means every like luxury goods or just in general, slightly less expensive. And that makes me resent you for living in Europe." – Nolan Meader "And you know, in my 40s, I had my kids going in their teens, and they literally drove me fucking nuts. When I got to 50, I was like, screw this, screw all of you. Like, this is my time! It's my time to sparkle and shine. I'm doing whatever. And there's the door if nobody likes it." – Traci Jeske "So, you know, you can't show your knees because you're 50, and you can't do this because you're 50, and I'm just so sick of it. And so, I think the biggest struggle is that there are these age-appropriate rules - and you tell me age-appropriate - I'm going to break it." - Traci Jeske "You've got to buy the La Prairie stuff that costs more than a kidney and all of a sudden you look like a baby again. But, I draw the line at the fetus facials." – Nolan Meader
