Allowing Yourself to Be Vulnerable and Authentic
Sometimes we feel the need to put on a smile and pretend everything is okay, even when it's not. This can be especially true for those in the chronically ill community. However, suppressing our true emotions can lead to more anxiety and shame. Instead, it's important to allow ourselves to be exactly where we are and be vulnerable. By accepting ourselves as flawed humans with both shadow and light aspects, and by embracing our emotions fully, we can start the healing process.
Embracing Pain and Self-Acceptance for Healing
Positive thinking has its place, but real healing comes from self-acceptance and acknowledging our pain. When we deny or sugarcoat our emotions, they only grow stronger. To heal, we must walk through our pain. It's essential to create a safe space for ourselves to admit that we're not okay at times. By exploring both the shadows and the light within ourselves, and by embracing all of our experiences without judgment, we can find true healing and selfgrowth.
Melani Schweder of A Brighter Wild reminds us that it's okay to admit when we're not okay.
