Deep dives
Cara's Journey to Life Coaching
Cara, a client of the host, shares her experience of being coached. Despite not having a terrible life, she felt a disconnect between her values and how she spent her time. Through coaching, she worked on readjusting her thoughts and actions to align with her true values, aiming to live a life that reflected what she valued most. She discovered the importance of defining the terms for herself and challenging rigid thinking about balancing different aspects of life. Cara also learned to question thoughts tied to milestones and expanded her perspective on what it means to feel and be what she desired.
The Value of Hypothetical Questions and Body Awareness
During the coaching sessions, the host used hypothetical questions to help Cara challenge her assumptions and explore different perspectives. These questions enabled her to think beyond her current limitations and consider alternative possibilities. Additionally, the host introduced the concept of somatic practices, tapping into body sensations and feelings to gain insights. Initially hesitant, Cara discovered the emotional impact of such practices and the value of opening up to new ways of approaching personal challenges.
Embracing Seasons and Prioritizing Values
Cara realized that she didn't have to choose between different aspects of her life, such as her career, personal interests, and motherhood. Coaching helped her understand that these could coexist in different seasons, where one aspect may take precedence over the others temporarily. By letting go of rigid definitions and societal expectations, she found freedom in prioritizing based on her values and current circumstances. This perspective allowed her to release the heaviness of thought patterns that held her back and embrace a more flexible and empowering mindset.
Commitment, Insights, and Personal Growth
Cara highlighted the importance of making a commitment to oneself when engaging in coaching. Being open to try new things and implementing insights between sessions can lead to meaningful progress. While acknowledging that not everyone has the capacity for additional homework, she recognized the value of deliberate practice to integrate coaching concepts and create lasting change. Cara expressed deep appreciation for the coaching experience, specifically the wisdom, flexibility, and compassion exhibited by the host. She emphasized the need to find a coach who resonates with individual needs and can guide the transformational journey effectively.
On today’s podcast, I’m sharing an interview I did with my client, Kara, about her experiences being coached.
Kara came to coaching not because her life was terrible — in fact, it wasn’t! She’d gone through more challenging periods in the past, and did have a lot of things she really wanted.
But she felt like there was a disconnect between some of her values, and how she was actually spending her time and brain space.
Our work together was about helping her re-adjust her thoughts and her actions, so that her life did reflect what she valued most, and felt good to her, on the inside, not just on paper.
Kara shares the lessons she learned and her thoughts on what getting coached by me is like.
