Deep dives
New Leadership at the Language Creation Society
Last month, the Language Creation Society (LCS) held its annual members meeting where officer elections took place. David J. Peterson stepped down as president and Kostov became the new president, while Christoph Frazier-Covitz became the vice president. In this special episode of ConLangery, David, Kostov, and Christoph discuss the changes in leadership and their vision for the LCS.
Introducing a Quarterly Newsletter
Kostov shares one of his ideas as the new president of the LCS - starting a quarterly newsletter. This newsletter aims to provide members with a summary of conlanging events from the previous quarter, as well as updates on what the LCS has been doing. It will also serve as a platform for announcing new services or features and reminding members of existing services. By implementing this newsletter, the LCS hopes to improve communication and ensure that all members stay informed about the conlanging world.
Reflections on the Dothraki Language Job for Game of Thrones
David reflects on the process through which he was selected to create the Dothraki language for HBO's Game of Thrones. He discusses the flaws in the initial selection process run by the LCS and how it resulted in missed opportunities for other conlangers. David also expresses his desire for a more fair and structured approach to hiring conlangers for television and film projects. While he acknowledges the success and publicity that came with the Dothraki job, he believes that the process could have been handled better to benefit the conlang community as a whole.
George recorded a special interview with David J Peterson and Christophe Grandsire-Koevoets to talk about some recent events at the Language Creation Society.
