Episode 9: Parenting alongside the Tendency to Control

As a child, I learned many compliant and people-pleasing behaviors so I could hide from anger and ridicule. These codependent behaviors kept me safer as a child, but they are detrimental to me as a parent and in my adult relationships. As a parent, controlling my environment looks like me dominating and bossing my son around, which, at times, is inappropriate and disrespectful towards him.
I share a story of when I realized I was repeating the cycle of verbal abuse and criticism onto my child and what I've done to change my behaviors since then.
I give an example of how I've learned to set limits as a parent so I can create time and space for myself to be the most loving parent possible. 
I share a parenting book I read last summer that I loved.
