69: Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman
Emotions' Purpose
- Emotions originate from the word "motir," meaning "to move away from."
- Their purpose is to trigger a fight-or-flight response, moving us from danger.
Emotional Hijacking
- Emotional hijacking occurs when the amygdala, the emotional center, is triggered without neocortex processing.
- This leads to impulsive reactions rather than rational responses.
Developing Emotional Intelligence
- Reflect on situations where emotional hijacking occurs.
- Increase awareness of emotional responses to develop emotional intelligence.

It can be difficult to measure, but the topic of emotional intelligence is a worthwhile study for anyone with a desire to reach their full potential. In today’s episode, Joe & Mike take a deep look at a different way to be smart.
