Deep dives
Transitioning from Law to Dermatology
Dr. Brandon Kirsch's career began in law, motivated by parental expectations, but he realized his passion lay in medicine. After completing his pre-med at the University of Pennsylvania and medical schooling at Brown University, he trained at prestigious institutions like the Mayo Clinic. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open his practice in Naples, Florida, in January 2020, just before the pandemic hit. Despite entering a saturated market with no local connections, he was determined to offer exceptional patient care and establish a successful dermatology practice.
Prioritizing Patient Care
Dr. Kirsch emphasizes the importance of patient care and strives to create a celebrity-like experience for every patient. He believes that treating patients with the highest respect and kindness fosters loyalty and retention, as individuals will remember how they felt during their interactions. He actively trains his staff to treat every patient as if they were a family member, aiming to build meaningful connections. This commitment to excellence not only enhances patient satisfaction but also cultivates a positive reputation for the practice, leading to long-term success.
The Critical Role of Reviews
Dr. Kirsch underscores that online reviews are crucial to the success of his practice, viewing them as priceless assets. He emphasizes the importance of consistently delivering high-quality service to maintain a strong reputation, as even minor negative feedback can significantly impact potential patients' perceptions. To manage this risk, he actively addresses any negative reviews by reaching out to patients directly to resolve issues and improve their experience. This proactive approach has resulted in a majority of five-star reviews, which he credits as a key differentiator for his practice.
Emphasizing Financial Accountability
Dr. Kirsch shares how he initially neglected the financial side of his practice, learning the hard way about the importance of profit planning. He advocates for a 'profits first' mindset, suggesting that practice owners should always consider their profitability and operational costs before expanding services. By carefully analyzing and understanding the numbers behind his practice, he has made informed decisions regarding service offerings and investments. This financial awareness allows him to manage cash flow effectively and maintain a sustainable business model.
Creating a Positive Workplace Culture
Dr. Kirsch recognizes that employee satisfaction is integral to patient satisfaction and overall practice success. He strives to foster a positive workplace culture by ensuring that his staff feels valued and motivated, an approach that translates to better patient interactions. He shares that recognizing and rewarding employees for their contributions, while also maintaining a zero-tolerance policy toward negativity, creates an uplifting work environment. This focus on employee well-being not only helps retain staff but also ensures that patients receive exceptional care.
