Popol Vuh

The Popol Vuh is a religious text of the Maya people that tells the story of the creation of the world, the adventures of the Hero Twins Hunahpú and Xbalanqué, and the history of the Kʼicheʼ people.

Originally written in Mayan hieroglyphs and transcribed into the Roman alphabet in the sixteenth century, this text includes accounts of creation, ancestry, history, and cosmology.

Dennis Tedlock's translation is widely praised for its sensitivity, precision, and illuminating commentary, which helps to preserve the musical tone and cultural significance of the original Mayan text.
