Knowing When to Refer Patients with Pelvic Pain

Clinicians should refer patients with pelvic pain to experts if they lack experience beyond oral contraceptive pills, have exhausted hormonal management strategies without success, and ruled out other causes of pain. Referral is warranted if considering laparoscopy or more invasive diagnostic testing, or if additional benefits from treating the disease are likely.
