Emotional Contagion and Social Influence
Our emotions and behaviors are influenced by the emotions and behaviors of people around us, even strangers. Observing someone eating a certain food can subconsciously influence our food choices. Similarly, being near a stressed individual can impact our emotional state. This phenomenon, called emotional contagion, is a quick and subconscious process linked to our evolutionary instinct to react to potential threats. Facial cues and behaviors of others can trigger similar emotions in us, affecting our overall mood rapidly and involuntarily.
