The Role of Neurons in Appetite Regulation

There are two types of neurons in the hypothalamus that affect appetite. POMC neurons act as a break on appetite, while AGRP neurons stimulate feeding and create excitement about food. In the summer, when sunlight is abundant, appetite is lower. AGRP neurons are responsible for the excitement or anxiety people feel about eating. They increase overall energy levels.
