Using self-persuasion via cognitive dissonance, researchers developed the hypocrisy paradigm to encourage sexually active college students to promote condom use in a sex education class. Despite understanding the importance of condoms, only 17% of these students were using them. By engaging them in creating and delivering a video lecture on condom use, the researchers aimed to bridge the gap between belief and behavior.
