Geoffrey Hinton: Unpacking The Forward-Forward Algorithm

Eye On A.I.

NOTE

Why the Brain is Not Doing Back-Propagation

Back-propagation requires a perfect model of the forward system where you go forward through the layers and look at the error in the output. Then, you change all the weights in proportion to how much they help in getting the right answer. However, the brain does not have a perfect model of the forward system. The brain does not have access to the error in the output or the knowledge of the correct answer. Therefore, the brain cannot do back-propagation like artificial neural networks do.
