Sales success depends on having a great product rather than relying solely on the skills of the salespeople. Sales problems are often a result of product problems. Focusing on hiring brilliant salespeople is not a scalable solution. A great product can almost sell itself, as seen in companies like Snowflake and VMware. It is important to hire salespeople who have experience in challenging situations rather than those who have only ridden on momentum. Coding and picking up orders is not as valuable as having salespeople with skills and focus.
