The general idea behind orthopedic cost is that any loading activity incurs a certain cost that affects function or structure in the long term. This cost could manifest as injury risk or dysfunction. The theory needs to be supported by data for confidence. Loading muscles or joints may increase the risk of injury in those specific areas compared to not loading them. For example, doing curls may heighten the risk of elbow or brachial muscles injury.
