Considerations for Diaphragm Removal and Alternative Nerve Blocks

If a patient is at risk for complications, particularly due to restrictive lung disease, taking out the diaphragm is a viable option. However, patients with severe emphysema do not rely much on their diaphragm for tidal volume. Instead, the focus should be on patients with restrictive lung disease. In such cases, alternative procedures like the superscapular nerve block can be considered. This block is performed behind the shoulder joint in the super spinatus fossa to minimize the risks associated with the neck area.
