Church History Matters

NOTE

Leaving Them Wanting More

The history of temple work and temple worship was traced, starting from the Book of Mormon prophecies about the New Jerusalem to Oliver Cowdery's mission to the Lamanites and the first reference to a temple in 1830. The desire to build a temple in Missouri was thwarted by persecution, leading to the building of the Kirtland Temple as a preparatory temple to obtain essential temple keys. These keys facilitated the construction of temples in Nauvoo, where keys such as gathering, temple marriage, and sealing the family of God were restored before persecution resurfaced.
