Dopamine and Behavioral Patterns
Dopamine plays a crucial role in pleasure and reward as it leads to an initial explosive release when we are exposed to a stimulus important for survival. Over time, as our brains try to compensate, the drug of choice may no longer release much dopamine, contributing to a dopamine deficit state. This process is part of the opponent process mechanism, where our brains seek balance after such potent dopamine releases. The initial explosion of dopamine is essential for reinforcing behavior and prompting us to seek that stimulus again.
