When individuals engage in activities they love, they often lose track of space and time, leading to a lack of perceived value in those activities. In contrast, tasks we may not enjoy but excel at can attract attention and expectation from others, often generating more value for teams or groups. There are four distinct zones of skill and enjoyment: Zone One consists of incompetence, where one is not good at a task; Zone Two involves competence, where one can perform adequately, but others can too; Zone Three, the zone of excellence, features skills one possesses but does not enjoy, often leading to a false sense of security regarding value. Recognizing these zones allows individuals to focus on areas of genuine interest and passion for greater fulfillment and productivity.
