The speaker achieved a heightened state of mind by closely scrutinizing their surroundings after months of deep consideration. They believed that years of enduring intense discomfort had unconsciously trained their consciousness to tolerate and shift their mental state. During times of distress, the speaker entered an alert, present, attentive, blissful, and peaceful state of mind, which they did not consciously induce but rather allowed to manifest. They learned to let this state prolong itself by being with it without holding onto it, ultimately realizing that desiring the state to stay would make it go away, but being with it without wishing for its continuance allowed it to persist.
